  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So he asked Konerko again at the break last year and he was dead wrong and just because he loves him so he asked Pauly during ST this season and once again Konerko provided a faulty prediction. So Konerko's down to a 1-2 record, perhaps asking him a 4th time is pushing it just a bit. Kalapse I already admitted this in a previous post. I was unaware that KW asked him about this last year or in spring training. I think you just like to argue with me, which is cool with me, I don't mind. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well sometimes as a GM you just have to bite the bullet, realize you put together an incredibly flawed roster and begin retooling for next season and the future. Teams do it every season, some sooner than others and others go about it better than some. KW needs to put his ego aside for a second and realize this team just isn't good enough to hang with Detroit and Cleveland. Anyone who compares the 3 rosters and thinks the Sox are the superior team is kidding themselves. It's going to be tough for KW to do but his job and the future of this franchise depends on what kind of talent he's able to bring in over the next month and a half in exchange for pending free agents and any other unnecessary pieces that remain on the roster after the main guys have been dealt. If Kenny goes for it this season he'll be unemployed by the end of '08. Like I said, I am not disagreeing here. I am just saying it is a luxury we as fans have - to see that it is a worthless season and just give up. I believe actually being on the team and in the organization it would be a bit more - or a lot more difficult to be able to just throw in the towel. Almost everyone at this level is highly competitive and have a difficult time believing that anything is over until it actually is. It is not about ego really. Haven't you ever been in that situation - where you knew the odds were against you - but you just couldn't give in? I am just saying - it has to be really difficult. Look at it from both sides - not just yours as an outsider of the organization. Plus I don't believe KW will get fired. JR is a very loyal guy and he always dreamed of a baseball championship. KW and Ozzie brought that to him. KW and Ozzie are here until they want to leave if you ask me. Krause was here until he wanted to leave and he was here for way too long. JR is loyal to a fault almost.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:15 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Our bullpen was pretty much fantastic considering the fact that our starters all usually went at least 6 innings. We had 3 fantastic relievers at all times(for the first half Hermy being one and Jenks being one in the 2nd half) and at least Viz was able to get outs. I am not at all disagreeing with you, however, the Angels bullpen was crazy dominant. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Define how you would want Williams to 'go for it.' Which players would you prefer he acquire -- bullpen arms, OF help? What trading chips would you be willing to surrender for such players, knowing full-well we're still ~5 games out of playoff contention? Isn't this precisely the problem, forsaking prospects for assitance when we're nowhere near guaranteed to reach the playoffs? Flash, you ask too many good and intriguing questions. Leave it up to KW to do it. F prospects if we get legitimate proven ball players for them. Prospects have become highly overrated, so much so that some think Milledge for Buehrle is a good deal. I don't understand.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's an awful lineup, Southside. It's a rough draft. Please help me out and fill some holes. I was trying to think of less expensive good value guys to enable the Sox to retain the services of Buehrle and also get Ichiro. Please help. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ichiro really does pay for himself. I totally agree.
  4. Come on - he deserves it. 5 years for 75-85 - hell yes you do that. He is a top of the rotation starter. He has proven to be very durable. You don't let guys like that walk. Get what you can for Dye, Iguchi, and Contreras. Sign Ichiro to replace Dye, plug in Richar for Iguchi, Fields for Pods, say goodbye to Erstad and get Rowand in CF, and whatever rook (possibly Billingsley if you get him for Dye) for Contreras. WTF is the problem there? RF Ichiro CF Rowand 1B Konerko DH Thome LF Fields C AJ 3B Crede SS Eckstein? 2B Richar Buehrle Garland Vazquez Danks Billinglsey, Massett, Floyd... Jenks I don't have a clue after Jenks.
  5. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well if they go on a run like I said at least 14-5 if not better, then why not go for it. Cleveland or Detroit isn't running away withthis division. Cleveland is 13 games over .500, and Detroit is 11 over. So to me no one is running away with anything. If we could have played at least .500, we would only be 6.5 out. I know we haven't played .500, I'm just using it as an example, to show no one is running away with this division. Sure Cleveland has a solid team, but they have their problems, and Detroit is solid, but I believe they are gonna fade off in the 2nd half. The Yankees have turned it around pretty quick in the last couple weeks, who says we can't do the same. Even if we only go 10-9 or 8-11 or whatever, maybe a few of these guys will increase their value. I just don't see the problem with waiting a few weeks and seeing if this team can go on a run. If they catch fire and go 16-3 or 17-2, then hell yeah I want KW to be a buyer and go for it all. If they don't, then there is still more than enough time to make deals. The trading deadline is July 31st, not June 31st. There will be plenty of time to trade people away if they can't turn it around in the next couple weeks. He's got a point there. The only problem with waiting is the fear of pending FAs going down with some sort of injury - then your trading chip(s) are gone and you will get nothing to fill future holes. Not only that, but a lot of teams like to get more playing time out of the player - 3 months instead of 2 months - and will give up a little bit more for it. Those are 2 ways it may hurt. I like your optimism, there just has to be a point where a realistic line is drawn. They have to decide how far behind and at what point they will start selling - which I am sure they have done already. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually the Sox compared very well to the opposition in '05, the Sox bullpen was far superior to that of the Yankees and Red Sox, same goes for the starting rotation as well. The White Sox had a more potent lineup than that of the Angels in to go along with a better rotation. They had a better rotation than everyone - that and defense is what won the World Series. The Angels had a dominant bullpen. The White Sox had 3 guys. The Yankees and Red Sox had much better lineups. All of those teams scored more than the White Sox that year. I really don't buy your argument there. The places that the White Sox were far superior to other teams were in fielding and SP. That is what won the World Series. Also unbelievable timely hitting.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They serve pierogi at PNC Park. For real? Filled with what? Are they any good? I can't imagine a ballpark pierogi.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Scott Podsednik has gone 346 plate appearances without a triple and now in 11 games against s***ty minor leaguers has stolen a grand total of 2 bases while being caught once. Before getting injured he stole 3 and was thrown out twice by the worst catcher in baseball. Just some fun facts. You caught me. Hopefully he will get back to his fun facts of 2005 instead of his career after that. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't hope a hotdog into a five-course meal, southside. Mmmmmm, 5 Chicago Style Vienna Beef Hotdogs...
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Do you think he's the same guy he was in Milwaukee? In 2005? Hell, he isn't as "good" as he was last year. I'm hoping he can get healthy and be that guy in 2005. Keyword is HOPING. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If the Sox go on any kind of run, it won't matter what any of the pending free agent's trade value is at come the deadline because KW will be buying rather than selling which will only hurt this team for the immediate future (say 2008.) If you look at the Sox' bullpen, outfield and left side of the infield and think they can catch 2 outstanding ballclubs in Cleveland and Detroit then you're completely delusional. At this point how many players on the Sox' 25 man roster are superior to their counterparts on those of the Tigers and Indians? Why? If they continue to win they may be able to afford to buy players. If they don't they will have to go your prospect route. If they see they can't catch those 2 teams then I am sure they will get what they can for their pending FA's. Have a little faith in your favorite team. I am sure they will make the correct choices. Their job is to win. They want to win as much as we want them to win. I highly doubt they would want to do anything to hurt this organization or set it back. It is not like we are trusting Wanstedt and McCaskey here. We are trusting an organization that brought us the World Series championship 2 years ago. Have a little faith. You could have asked the same question about the 2005 team and go player by player against a few other teams and no one would have picked the White Sox. Boston, Anaheim, NY... player vs. player it didn't match up good for the White Sox. You really can't compare teams that way in such a huge team sport like baseball.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oz says he wasn't doing his job, so he had to go. Why is Walker still here again? Oh right, we scored 10 runs tonight so that buys him about 3 days. When Pods and Grinderstad come back we'll average 11 runs per game! ....and if anyone says "Crede and/or Erstad wouldn't have gotten picked off by Olivo," they are correct because Crede and Grinderstad would not have been on base. That is the biggest f***ing lie. Raines chose to leave. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It once was... Kudos to you, but even that season - it wasn't with perfectly played games. Where was the offense that season? There is always something to nitpick and to complain about if you are looking for it. SS71 tends to do that no matter what. I'm surprised you haven't noticed that.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Its nice to see you are on peoples nuts again. HA HA! Whatever that means. Grow up and have fun watching the game instead of nitpicking every little thing. Jeeze! If you can't enjoy a game when the SOx are up 9-3 I have no idea what is wrong with you. Are you never happy, ever? It will never be perfect. Deal with it.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To win 95 games which seems to be about what it would take to win this we will need to go 66-30. 36 games over 500. So no more losing, you just have to win it out from here on out. Thats it, no losing at all. And with that, you still have to pray that other teams fall apart. I know 71 - I wasn't disagreeing with you guys at all. Being fans we have a luxury of looking at it more realistically. I believe it would be horribly tough to give up and say die if you have even the slightest chance of winning if this is what you do for a living. QUOTE(bulokis @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This will be the same as last year. KW had a meeting with Thome, Dye and Konerko whether to trade for help and those 3 said no. What happened last year, we sucked big time. Why ask Konerko? What turn around? This season has been over for a while now. He asked Paulie in 2005 as well. Paulie said they could win the world series with what they have. He was right.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 12 of the next 19 games the Sox play are against opponents with a superior record. If they get on a roll and get healthy and possibly add a couple of pieces instead of removing - it could happen. Once on a roll anything can happen - difficult to stop a locomotive once it gets rolling. Then again, we may only be driving a VW bus. It is all so confusing right now. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pods definitely provides those WOW moments in the field, the problem is they aren't in a good way. Thank you - not in the field, but on the base paths he can. He can get a triple, beat out an infield single, steal a base or two. Speed kills.
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know about that, but tonight I actually some life on the field. What did I say before? You need that WOW fact and Dye provided that. 2 great defensive plays brought a lot of life to the team. It brought a lot of energy. That is what they need to wake them up and to show energy. Great base running, great defensive plays, a lot of hustle, beating out a play at first, stretching a single to a double or a double to a triple, running the catcher over at the plate - any of those things and you will see more energy. This is where you seem to miss the speed of Ozuna and Pods.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are almost 11 games out of first and nearly the same amount out of the wild card. How about you wait until you get to say, 500 before we start the silly we are going to win this thing talk. We are closer to 5th than first by a long shot. I wonder if the Royals GM is thinking of adding, because they are in a similiar situation right now. So we didnt add anyone because Pauly told them we had the team to win the WS. We didnt fire Walker, because Pauly likes him. Now we may add to a team, that is near 11 games out because our GM cant adjust and Pauly told him to go for it. Stop asking Pauly for advice. Good lord. So far he has been right twice. If this is his track record - keep asking. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think this ruffles our feathers because it's the same crap they pulled at the trade deadline last year when KW said that Konerko and Dye said we didn't need to add anything. I thought you guys were referring to when KW asked Konerko in 2005 and Konerko said that they had the team to win the World Series. I didn't know he and Dye were asked again last year. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sweet Georgia Brown....waiting for Scott Podsednik and Darin Erstad to come back and propel the Sox to a historic finish is maybe the stupidest thing I have ever heard. The Twins made a historic comeback last season on the backs on Liriano, Santana, Morneau, and Mauer. There's at least 2 future HOF in that group. The Sox think Pods and Erstad will do the same thing for them. If Buehrle and Dye walk for nothing (or just for draft picks that the Sox scouting will turn into trash) Williams will have absolutely done an incompetent job and have screwed the Sox franchise into the ground for the foreseeable future. He may already have done that by cultivating the worst farm system in baseball. 2 Future HOF? Kind of early to make that statement. The Sox desperately need Pods and Erstad. Their leadoff hitters suck something terrible. However, they need RP pretty bad. I understand wat you are saying though. They are not coming back. They should be a little more realistic about the whole thing. Then again, for all those that thought they were laying down and just giving up - and didn't like to see that - here is your proof that they are not. They still think they have a shot. You are damned if you do damned if you don't I guess. You can't please everyone.
  15. To be honest - I would rather stick Fields in LF and bring Ichiro in to play RF. We will probably get Milledge to play CF for Mark Buehrle, so there is our OF in 2008. Let Crede play 3rd and trade him once his value gets a bit higher in 2008 and move Fields to 3B. I don't think Dunn really fits in our plan - especially the way Fields has looked lately.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's just fantastic. Things continue to get better this season. He's fine fathom. Strained quad is nothing much at all. He will be playing tomorrow - unless it is a trade going down and they are hiding it.
  17. JD - slight strain left quad - precautionary measures
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I cant wait till everyone starts pitching out a bunch of times to catch Ozzie in his, man on first 2 outs, he goes deal. Of course you do. Thank you negative man. By the way, in case you haven't noticed, the Sox are winning 9-3. Why should that matter - lets talk about the negatives.
  19. The way it is looking I think you guys may be right. They haven't talked about an injury at all. I think there will be an announcement after the game.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When there's been an injury to a player during a game over the last few months, it did take a good hour for there to be any word. but they at least talked as to the speculation of the injury, correct? I mean, you didn't know for sure what it was, but you at least knew it was an injury. I haven't heard Hawk or DJ talk about it at all, but then again I just turned it on in the 4th inning.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The more time that goes by with out anyword on Dye, the more and more I'm starting to think some deal COULD have happened. So then he wasn't hurt? Or we don't know for sure yet?
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, I am, and yes I do. But if that isn't enough, were his own words before the game that they are not doing anything and are confident that the team is going to turn it around enough evidence for you? Damn, do you know what kind of streak they have to go on to turn it around? That would be remarkable.
  23. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd rather not see the Sox deal for Collaspo. But I'd also like to think that the Sox aren't projecting Richar as their starting 2B in 2008. Why not? Scouting reports have him as a starting 2B for someone in 2008. What do you know that the reports don't? Have you seen him play? Please tell me more about him. I would love to read your evaluation of this player since you have actually seen him play and not just read some stats.
  24. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, but how do you know Greg Walker does that? Or are you just assuming he does? Because that is his job. If he wasn't doing at least this he would have been fired a long time ago. So we can either assume that you know this as well and you are just looking to argue OR we can assume you really don't know anything about baseball.
  25. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, you busted me. I know nothing about baseball. Obviously, if a coach is coaching the worst offense in baseball, he must be doing something right. No - he is obviously doing nothing at all. He is teaching them the lift and pull approach obviously and the players he is working with have all the talent in the world. He got it all under control. Lets keep the same players and get a new coach. Lets see what the new coach can do with this bunch of crap. I never said you knew nothing - I said the White Sox staff is smarter than you and actually knows baseball. Not sayin that you don't, but you don't know it as good or as much as them. I am sure they can see the same stuff you see and more.
