Ex-Sox Player Admits to Steroids!
thomsonmi replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not to get too technical, but since I am a plaintiff's trial attorney... In New York Times v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (U.S. 1964), the United States Supreme Court ruled that a public person may not successfully sue for libel unless the person can prove malice. Malice was defined as "with knowledge that it (the material in question) was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not." This would be the standard applied to a lawsuit filed by Mark McGwire or any of the folks accused in Canseco's book. -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) I'm really surprised at some of these answers. You're putting MIF depth ahead of another solid RP. Hasn't MIN dominance the past 3 yrs taught you anything? Agreed Juggs, which is why I started with saying we would first be looking to add another veteran starter.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Apparently that monkey already has a job typing your posts.

I am very pleased with the job KW has done in filling holes but if I were able to add anything (dream world) it would be a star shortstop or a Curt Schilling type starting pitcher that could carry the team by shear will during the middle of the summer. Now, if we're talking reality... My guess is that we'll be looking for a veteran starting pitcher before the trade deadline because you can never have too many of those guys during a playoff run. And, secondly, we'll be looking for a backup shortstop for Uribe as I'm not convinced we have one in the entire organization.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Its there already. This has nothing to do with the Pale Hose. Call me crazy but an ALCentral rival acquisition seems to have something to do with the Pale Hose.

Cubs get three minor leaguers... Scott Moore, INF Roberto Novoa, RHP and another name that I missed.
-
That's it. Urbina not included in the deal. They're not even talking about who or what the Cubs are getting in return.
-
Tigers continue to be aggressive... Farnsworth is loaded with talent but may not have the capacity to handle the role of a closer.

Here's their 2004 numbers folks... Maggs 9 HR, 37 RBI .292 AVG. .351 OBP .485 SLG .836 OPS Thomas 18 HR 49 RBI .271 AVG .434 OBP .563 SLG .997 OPS Valentin 30 HR 70 RBI .216 AVG .287 OBP .473 SLG .760 OPS Lee 31 HR 99 RBI .305 AVG .366 OBP .525 SLG .891 OPS These national media folks are not doing their homework. Our offense will be better this year. Unless Jermaine Dye gets hurt by June he will double, maybe triple Maggs output from last year. Even if Thomas is out until the middle of June, it shouldn't be hard for him duplicate last year. Valentin sucked! The 30 homeruns aside, his hitting was a liability to this team last year. It then comes down to whether or not AJ, Pods, and Iguchi make up for the loss of CLee. Because the only player we lost from last year's team who did much last year was Carlos Lee. And, I haven't even talked about our pitching upgrades.

And, say it ain't so...

There are some really cool photos in these pages. Here's one of Buck Weaver after being tagged out at home during the infamous 1919 World Series.

Talking about Mike Royko and the Chicago Daily News brought me to a website that has old photos from the Chicago Daily News. There's a ton of good stuff here with old White Sox photos. Check out the 1901 team photo. http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?amme...seball+team++))

Like most everyone else here, I'm excited to see how the new team looks on the field. Anything can happen, but I feel like we have added so much depth on our pitching staff that we have to be better. The bullpen is deep and we have a couple relief pitchers who can step in for starters if they are needed. And, I like the lineup... Posednik, LF Iguchi, 2B Dye, RF Konerko, 1B Everett (Thomas), DH Rowand, CF Pierzynski, C Crede, 3B Uribe, SS And, yes, there's no sense in being a fan if you can't be optimistic this time of year.

QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) We definitely have what it takes to win the Central. It just depends if we choke down the stretch as usual. This could be our year. I havent been this excited about a sox team since... ever. Well, I was more excited about the 1984 team. We were coming off winning the division by 20 games and we had added Tom Seaver to the rotation. Things didn't go so well...

We have the horses but I agree with most of you that we have to prove it on the field because we have been in this position before. Frankly, given the past few seasons the Twins should be favored until we knock them off their high horse.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) AJ was also on the Score at about 4:40, and he said something I haven't heard before. He will still be arbitration eligible after the 2005 season, so if the Sox like him, he can't go anywhere as a free agent. Also, a beat reporter from SF is on the Score now, and he's saying he didn't put much stock in the rumors about AJ's bad attitude. He criticized AJ for not taking walks, hitting into DPs, and said AJ was poor defensively - blocking balls in particularly. It can't be worse than Paul, Thomas, Konerko, and Lee (hitting into double plays anyway).

QUOTE(S720 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Is it possible to trade Garland and Konerko for Vazquez, then turn around and sign Delgado to play 1st base? Sentimentally, I do not want to trade away Garland and Konerko. But if this is the step to take the Sox to win the division and pennant, I'll reluctantly do it. Of course, the scenario can only take place if JR is willing to move up payroll a little bit! Both Delgado and Vazquez will cost over $10 million each per year. So, the answer is NO f***ING WAY would this be considered. The only way Vazquez was coming here was if the Yankees were paying some of that salary. The Yankees are now out of the picture and I can't imagine the broke Diamondbacks being willing to pay some of his salary. This isn't happening. End of story.
-
QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Better have nothing to do with Konerko According to... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/scor...umors.hotstove/ The Diamondbacks are expected to explore opportunities to trade Javier Vazquez, acquired from the Yankees in the Johnson deal, to another team, with the Orioles, Phillies and White Sox among the leading contenders. -- Washington Post I'm not sure this is anything to make a big deal about. It sounds like speculation more than anything else.

I just can't wipe the smile from my face. KW has put himself together a real baseball team.

If ARow repeats what he did last year, he'll get a much better contract than Uribe's.

Here's a link... http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/10472238.htm "White Sox: Former Yankee Orlando ''El Duque'' Hernandez agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal, the pitcher's agent said, pending a physical scheduled for today. With incentives, the Cuban defector could earn as much as $12 million." -
Completely agree...

I just wanted to use that quote. I was not insulting anyone.
