Rooney made it sound like Konerko could have thrown Anderson out at 2nd.

He's just warming up. So, is Politte.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) Widger> ozuna and it is no contest. Am I missing something in this. They are completely different players, playing completely different positions. I like both of them.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) Personally I think Orlando Hernandez will put up much better numbers than either of those ass-clowns. Doing absolutely nothing would have been better than signing those guys. Bringing in El Duque was a master stroke. And, though, Contreras has been the least consistent of our starting five, Contreras has been much improved over last year. And, it seems obvious that El Duque has played a role in that improvement. I know that I sound like a KW ass-kisser but we are 33 and 14. Kenny deserves major props.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 26, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Nope, I think it's pretty much his idiotic calling out of Kenny Williams whose currently assembled team owns the best record in baseball. Armchair GM's are a dime a dozen and they all think they're Billy Beane. The fact is that they aren't and that's why they are posting on a message board. I was merely taking a cheap shot at his taste in music.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 26, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) Saying "your opinion sucks" is fine with me. Saying "the thread blows" is what I take exception to. If the thread blew, it would've gotten zero responses. I'm not "starting s***"...this is what I honestly believe HL, Don't take it personally. On a normal day your thread would have simply produced a lot of personal attacks for you having criticized a White Sox legend. Today, amongst a throng of ridiculous threads you were lumped in with the bunch. And, you clearly are far more intelligent than Anthrax. So, keep up the posting...
-
I gotta also say... I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal but frankly I could never get into Anthrax. That might explain this whole thing between us and him.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) I don't follow.. Ozzie was JR choice, Gaston was KW.. I know that was the rumor before the actual hiring but do you know this to be true.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) The problem I see, JR is never going to ink a pitcher long term, just not his style and so far...Its worked for him. This is past. I believe the White Sox have changed their entire approach. They used to invest the big money in big hitters. Clearly, that's not their style anymore. JR is willing to pay big money (not Bosox or Yankee big) but big enough to carry some big contracts.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Yes, This was IMO a PR move, much like the Tigers did the year before with trammel and company.. JR and company wants to fill the seats and what better way to do that then to bring back a fan favorite. No one thought that Ozzie would be this good at his job. The problem you run into Antrax is that every good decision KW makes you explain away like this.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) By the time Gio comes up will Mark even be here? Lets not annoint JG as a great pitcher just yet.. I remeber a certain pitcher in 00 that got off to a hot start as well..I wait till years end to see how far JG has come. I believe we can now keep guys like Buerhle. The type of team we're creating will allow us to spend more money on pitching. Deek, dunk, and run offensive players won't cost as much as Maggs, CLee, Frank, and Paulie.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) actually yes, KW "team" failed time and time and time again... Ozzie comes in goes wtf I want a team based on pitching sped and Def, not the 3 run HR, JR tells KW to make it so.. IF JR never hired on Ozzie, we still see the 3 run HR as our only way of offense. Are you suggesting that KW didn't choose to hire Ozzie?

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) At least they made it to the playoffs, No one can figure out what the f*** happens to them once they get there. I would be jumping off rooftops if we managed to win 13 straight Divisional titles.. Think Mark Buerhle, Jon Garland, BMAC, and Gio Gonzalez. And, imagine the possibilities...

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) KW keeps becoming a better gm every year it seems.... I think in another couple of years he could be one of the best at what he does, I think this off-season will be a real big one for him though. will B-Mac get a spot, does frank and pauly get resigned, does anderson get a spot if so what to do with Dye, who does he get for the bullpen, does garland get resigned? This off-season is going to be a big one, I think even bigger than this last off-season especially considering how much money could come off the books. Frank Thomas, Pauly, Contreras, Dye, Everett, Timo, ben davis ... thats like 34 million if none of those are resigned... in Dye and Contreras case being traded. Very good points. Hopefully, we'll be facing these tough questions as the World Champions.
-
And, I'll add that last year we put together one helluva amatuer draft. You have to give KW credit for drafting well the last 2-3 years. This is another area where he has shown incredible improvement.
-
KW had a very auspicious first two years but since then I've been very pleased. Despite are record and lack of achievement in 2003 and 2004 I thought he did a good job those years. Sometimes smart moves don't work. Trading for Alomar and Everett seemed brilliant in 2003 but it didn't work out. I was dancing in the street the night the trades were announced though. Last year, we lost Frank and Maggs early in the season. That's hard to blame on KW. And, at this point, its also hard to beat them up for expecting good things from Garland over the last couple years. It just took longer than expected.
-
Thankfully, I never wanted either of these guys. My call was for Edgar Renteria. And, frankly, what we did has worked out better than had we signed Renteria too.
-
Another good debate... Robin Ventura vs. Bill Melton at third base.
-
No one has mentioned Chet Lemon but he was probably the best centerfielder we've had during my lifetime.
-
And, it shows what a pathetic lot of outfielders we've had over the years in the outfield but Carlos Lee isn't very far down the list of best White Sox outfielders ever.
-
It may be unpopular but I'd have to take Maggs over Harold Baines and certainly over Lance Johnson. My outfield would be Shoeless, Minnie and Maggs.
-
As for 2B, my heart says Nellie Fox but the numbers would seem to indicate Eddie Collins.

I assume you were reaching for a leadoff hitter there?

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 26, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) '51 team that we just tied in record, because you guys probably don't want to talk about s*** that happened 50 years ago either. If you have insight into the '51 team that would probably be an interesting read. Do share...

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 26, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) Are you people actually being elitist about a bulletin board and thread content? Christ, get over yourselves. If you don't like the thread, ignore it. The topic came to mind because people have been putting Fisk's name all over "favorite sox player" and "all sox team" lists. I suppose I'll refrain from discussing the '51 team that we just tied in record, because you guys probably don't want to talk about s*** that happened 50 years ago either. I think I actually said you had a right to your opinion. The whole kidnapping thing was a joke made out of my own boredom. Not with your thread, but with my day.
