Our schedule can only be considered easy if you think that the Sox can handle Detroit. The Tigers are a question mark right now but I think that they will be tough to beat - especially if the Sox play their current lineup against them. Watching Borchard against Dotel is scary - he's completely overmatched. Crede continues to just suck. Harris and Uribe are in free fall and if Ozzie doesn't pick one or both (Uribe to 3rd) there's no hope in sight for either of them. Anybody still think the Sox need more pitching? With Frank out for the rest of the season the Sox need more hitting - like tomorrow.

This thread is just silly. Why don't we go out and get Prior, Mulder, Pedro, Gagne and Clemens. Oh yeah, lets get Beltran and Barry Bonds, too. The fact that their teams have said they're not available shouldnt stop us.
-
I thought 4 in a row was comic and you weren't concerned until 6-7. Now you're concerned at 5. Hmmm.
-
This is what I was talking about in the "other thread". Why would KW make an offer and then announce it publically if not to put pressure on Maggs to sign it? If I was Maggs or his agents, that would just serve to piss me off.
-
Hey dopey southside Look at the comparison I was responding to before you get your green beer in an uproar.
-
Give it some time!!?? At the current rate, Uribe will be hitting below the Mendoza line by August 1 and Miles will be hitting over .400! Shot!! and a goal!!
-
This is getting ridiculous. Politte (2004): 0-2 4.20 ERA Gordon(2004): 2-3 1.66 ERA
-
Uribe (2004): .282 Avg, .306 OBP, .229 in last 30 days Miles (2004): .326 Avg, .355 OBP, .358 in last 30 days 'nuff said, hockey puck.

Wow - certainly turned out a bunch of know nothings with this thread. Hmmm, I think Biddle's 34 saves last year might have won the Sox the division. I would keep Biddle's 34 saves last year and anything he would give them for the future for Colon's performance last year and NOTHING for every year after that. Osuna's 3.73 ERA, 50.2 IP last year would have helped too. As for Uribe, have you looked at Aaron Miles' numbers lately? Are you actually serious about comparing Gordon with draft picks this year? Has anybody looked at his numbers? Duh! Coming up with Shingo had nothing to do with losing Gordon. Dumb logic. The Alomar and Everett trades were bad because we gave up multiple prospects for nothing. As for Maggs, I agree it takes two. But KW has to keep his position a secret because it weakens his negotiating position with other teams.
-
Colon wasn't half the pitcher he was projected to be last year, so that deal was a bust - whoever they gave up for him. In fact, I wouldn't mind having Liefer, Biddle and Osuna right now. Felix Diaz right now is a nobody. So we'll see. Wells was a cancer who did nothing for us. He goes to the Yankees and pitches great. Knowing when to get rid of a guy you got who sucks is not a ringing endorsement.
-
I'll give you the Olivo deal for Bradford as a good pickup. Cotts and Adkins, as of right now, are nothing. My suspiscion is that neither of them will become established major leaguers.

This latest fiasco with Maggs is rapidly confirming that Williams sucks as a GM. How he has let it become public knowledge that he can't sign Magglio is beyond me. Remember, he inherited a division winner from Schuler. How many new GMs get to start with a team like that? A review: Debacles: Ritchie trade, Koch trade Bad: Wells signing (I don't care if it looked good to fans, he's the GM and should know better), Colon trade, Alomar trade, Everett trade, not signing Gordon Looking bad: Uribe trade, Maggs re-signing Jury still out: Garcia trade (will only avoid being a debacle if Sox get to WS) Good deals: Loaiza, Schoenweiss, re-signing Garcia, Buehrle Maybe I've missed some deals but overall, this guy sucks.
-
Harris was shuttling between CF and 2B before Maggs was hurt in an attempt to get Uribe into the lineup more. I think that moving from infield to outfield every other game and then sitting on the bench for 3 or 4 games does affect a young player. A veteran who is a utility player may be able to handle it, but not a young player who is still developing. What should have happened - and I called for at the time - was Crede should have sat or gone down to the minors and Uribe left at 3rd, Harris at second and Perez or Rowand in center.
-
Maybe if Ozzie would play him consistently - especially at one position for pete's sake - Harris would have had a chance to develop. Instead, even he doesn't know whether he's an infielder or an outfielder or whether he's playing or not. I'm getting tired of Ozzie's ridiculous number of lineups. This isn't little league. Not everybody has to play an equal number of innings. Pick a lineup for the second half and stick with it!
-
I never understood those people who thought that Cotts was a major league pitcher. He is a minor league pitcher and belongs there. All the Sox are doing right now is screwing with his head and making him less effective for next year or the year after - when he really should have been brought up.
-
6-4=2. So....2 more games and you're concerned, but it's laughable that I'm concerned at 4. By your logic, how does 2 games in a 162 game season make the difference between laughable and concerned? Huh?
-
Let me ask you a question. You're suggestion is that Carlos should take the first pitch no matter what. In this case, he would have taken the first pitch for a perfect fastball strike right down the middle of the plate down 2 runs with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the 8th. Now he's 0 and 1. Do you think he's going to see another pitch like that? No way. Why would the pitcher throw him another. The worst case scenario is he walks him and is still leading by a run with 2 outs in the 8th. It's much more likely that Lee is now forced to swing at a pitcher's pitch because he's behind in the count. If the game was tied, I'd agree with you. If it was alot earlier in the game, I'd agree. If Carlos was a weak hitting shortstop, I'd agree. But not with a power hitter, down 2 runs with 2 out in the 8th!
-
OK, I'm glad I'm providing some comic relief. We'll see who's right in the end. It's not losing 4 in a row by itself that bothers me. It's the Sox track record over the last few years and the continuation of that medocrity this year. They can't break away from the Twins no matter what they do and the front office is so f***ed up that I can't envision any way they make the right moves to fix it. Anybody take a look at the way Aaron Miles is playing? I'm starting to think we should add that to the Ritchie, Foulke and Magglio debacles.
-
This is really dumb. Nobody who knows anything about baseball can fault Carlos on that at bat. The Sox were down 2 runs in the 8th with 2 outs. Even if he walks they're still down a run with 2 outs. This is nothing like the Cubs game where the winning run is at 3rd with a bad to mediocre reliever on the mound. I don't care what the count is - he got a good pitch to hit and hit it hard for what could have been a game winning hit.
-
Sounds alot like what I heard last year - and the Twins ended up laughing at us. Don't be surprised if the Tigers and Indians kick our ass.
-
He didn't let anybody off the hook - he crushed that ball. That's part of the game. He got a good pitch to hit and hit it hard.
-
Assinine comment - Carlos hit the ball right on the nose and hit a rocket into right center. Unfortunately he hit it right at Anderson. Probably one of the best hit balls of the night and you're complaining! Standing there waiting for a walk is dumb. This team can't score more than 2 runs a game in the last 5 games. That's why they lost again tonight - not Carlos' fly out.
-
If you really analyze this team, does anyone really think that it is a World Series contender? A team that could win a playoff series? No f-ing way. This team is the same mediocre team with a bunch of guys who are good ball players but have little heart. They win 5 in a row and then lose 4. This is typical of the last 4 years or so. That's why the Twins will be laughing in our face again at the end of the year - because, once again, we go out and give away prospects and end up in 2nd place to a team with perhaps less talent but more heart and a passion to win. If we can't win the pennant this year, - and I believe we can't - trade Magglio by the deadline for some players for next year.
-
Agree 100%. KW is a lousy GM and it is simply impossible to overlook the Ritchie and Koch debacles. The other deals you mention that didn't happen would have been additional car wrecks. As of today, the Garcia deal sucks. The only way this deal works is if the Sox go to the World Series. If they don't, the deal is another mess. Even if the Sox sign Garcia in the offseason, the deal still sucks because they could have signed him in the offseason anyway and kept Olivo and Reed. As for the article - I think Mariotti got it right. KW and Ozzie should just shut up about Ordonez or pay the man. If they're are not going to pay him, make that decision and then trade him. Don't offer him incentives or deferred compensation that they know and he knows he can avoid in a free agent contract this winter.
-
I can't understand why people think that signing Garcia for next year is the key to this trade. Signing Garcia for next year has NOTHING to do with evaluating this trade. The Sox could have signed Garcia during next off season without losing Olivo or Reed. The only way to evaluate this trade is after this season is over. If the Sox win the pennant, the trade was a good one. If they don't, the Sox got robbed. It's that simple.
