QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) And for good reason. There is absolutely zero reason we shouldn't at least make an offer to him. I think he'll find his way to a contender as a back-up, but still, no reason not to at least reach out to him. It isn't like Flowers is some guy of the future. I'd rather have AJ around working with Nieto then Flowers. Would probably be wise to keep AJ as far away from our younger players as possible. THE A.J. PIERZYNSKI PROBLEM WAS WORSE THAN ANYBODY COULD HAVE IMAGINED - WEEI Other than the clubhouse stuff, he's simply not good enough anymore to put up with his being a jag.
-
Yesterday Bernsy (with info from whatever source he has, I presume) flat out said that Kep was hated in that clubhouse, and even went as far as to say that his personality, coupled with performance and the logjam at that position all contributed to JR's willingness to eat the remainder of his salary. FWIW.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) I like how people think the Cubs have money. 2009 was the last year the Cubs were owned by Tribune, the 2010 payroll the Ricketts inherited was $145mil. 2011 it went down to $120mil, 2012 it went down to $88mil with 2013 it being a $104 mil. So the fact is in the last 3 years, the Cubs have never had a higher payroll than the Sox. http://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm They arent owned by the Tribune anymore, they are owned by a small time family with most of their assets tied up into the Cubs. Not entirely true. While they don't have the plethora of cash they had under the Trib, their low payroll at the big league level is largely intentional, as they've invested a ton of money in scouting and internationally. Hell, they had enough money to piss away on Edwin Jackson.

Well, I'm looking at it from this angle. I would have been more than satisfied with Pods's performance last year at lead off had he not sucked on the basepaths and in the outfield. Being that Pierre is pretty much the better baserunning and fielding version (albeit slightly) of Pods, I like the deal, especially considering that he's coming cheaper than Pods's asking price. It's not an exciting move by any stretch of the imagination. He's at best an adequate solution to our leadoff spot. But if we can still land a legitimate DH, IMO adequate would be enough.

For what its worth, Paxson told the Daily Herald that the rumor is false.

The look on Bret's face when Jemaine was singing "Bret, You've got it Goin on" was the highlight of the last episode. Well, that and the song itself.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2935737 Im still amazed that he can say stuff like "Jeter aint all the way black" and nobody calls him on it. I guess these comments would carry some weight if they weren't...you know...coming from Gary Sheffield.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 10:13 AM) I am guessing in the next month either Channel 7 or Fox 32 has the EXCLUSIVE Amy Jacobsen interview. I am not saying, I am just saying, but if Amy were black, would they have pulled the plug so quickly? I don't really think race or sex matters in this case. I'm not a professional journalist, or a good one by any means, but as a journalism major who has taken a few classes on media ethics, I think this would classify as a pretty bad violation. I can't speak for any network executives, but I have little doubt that a white male reporter would be shown the door as well.

"...or what have you." Huh?

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Hey, it's that ****er guy! No, its Kramer. You must be thinking of Michael Richards. As a Seinfeld fan, I try to keep the two separate. Oh, and god bless Mark Buehrle! -
Best episode yet, IMO. I almost pissed myself when Bret hit Jemaine in the face with a sandwich!
-
How bout Mr. LTP himself, Joe Borchard? All he does is hit the occasional ball very far. Seems like the perfect situation for him.

I know it wasn't exactly close, but didn't we "try" to sign ARod before the Rangers blew everybody out of the water in 2001?

Once again, the meetings with Murray left me in stitches. "Hey...gingerballs!" "Hey, what are you, on your way to dick meeting?"

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) f*** you Kenny Williams. You should lose your job, for christ's sake. You are one of the worst managers ever! You can't go out of your norm one time for a once in a generation type of pitcher? Go to hell. I am sick of your stupid ass bulls***. Not sure where to start with this post.

Didn't Cusack try and sell to Reinsdorf that he was actually a fan of both teams? I know this all came out when he was trying to score World Series tickets.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) Murray is really funny, I like how he fired Bret last week and replaced him with a tape of Bret. ...then briefly replaced him with a guy named "Brent". Loved the little argument they all had about Bret blowing off the band for work.
-
Yes! I was hoping a Flight of the Conchords thread would pop up. First two episodes have been hilarious. Lets hope it holds up over time. My favorite scenes all involve their meetings with their band manager Murray. They've killed me every time. From the looks of the preview for next week, they'll be incorporating their song on "The Issues" in the next episode. If you haven't heard it, here's a looksy...

I still love Hawk, but I will acknowledge that he is a terrible announcer to have when your team sucks. At least when the team is good or even decent, his homerism has at least some merit, and his game calling is generally entertaining. In a year like the one we are currently having, his homerism just pisses me off, and since we are usually losing, Hawk is too quiet to be entertaining.
-
All our announcers suck. All they do is give us bad news. Seriously though, DJ and Singleton? Zzzzzzzzzzz.

I think I say this on behalf of most of the people here...

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) Go to hell White Sox. You definitely don't speak on my behalf. I'm pissed, to say the least. But "go to hell White Sox"? Sorry, still a fan. It's gonna have to get a lot worse than one crummy season to have me damning the whole organization to hell. This really sucks, but I'm anxious for the next chapter. Go Sox! Things can only go up from here. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) There isn't a manager in the history of baseball that could win with this current group. We've seen what Ozzie can do when he's got the pieces. I hope he's back. Bingo.

Best Park: Camden Yards - Has everything you want in a park. Has the perfect blend of old school ballpark with modern conveniences. Others have copied it, but haven't mastered it like Camden. Plus, Orioles fans seemed quite pleasant. Other favs: The Cell, Coors Field (Thought Coors was basically the same as Camden, sans the warehouse). Underrated: Milwaukee County Stadium - Not sure why, but I really enjoyed the place. Worst Park: Metrodome - Doesn't get much worse. And they don't tell you that your ears pop when you walk through the revolving doors of that s***hole. Overrated: Miller Park - Its nice, but unless the roof is open, it still doesn't feel like I'm at a baseball game.
