Not that it is breaking news - but Boomer Eisason is reporting that Nagy has in fact been informed that he will be relieved of his duties following the Vikings game. With that said - I look at him as a coach and almost never think his team underperformed its overall record. I actually think W/L he got the most out of his team year in / year out, which is why I do think in the long run he will be a successful 2nd time head coach. The hard part was - part of the reason he had such low expectations is some of the personnel decisions he made, in particular around QB, that he was directly involved with. The problem is - his own genius (his view of himself not mine) got in the way of really forcing the hand of the true personel he needed (beyond even QB - he kept thinking he could turn C players into B+ players with scheme at the skill position front and it was just wrong).

I don’t know what to think - if there is truth to Harbaugh it would imply they are open to everything. Will be curious how everything plays out. I am pretty sure I want a seasoned coach vs new hc though. Quinn, Frazier, Bowles, Harbaugh (or Payton or Tomlin haha) are all my top candidates. I am kind of surprised I have such a defensive lean but I kind of think a tough hard nose guy who runs a bit more conservative style is actually better fit for Fields. Maximize his legs, play action, simplify the field, keep down and distance on your side, etc are all actually really good and basic concepts to help develop a young QB, especially one with Fields strengths and weaknesses. Over time Fields will grow from the situations and each year start to expand his capabilities. I would treat him a lot more like Russel Wilson/Mac Jones/Brad early in their careers and less like Joe Burrow/Kyler Murray.

So I am late to the game on this (but it is still a running show) but CB Strike is a fantastic detective series. Available on HBO Max for those that have it (I think it is a BBC show or at least it comes off as a BBC show).

Happy New Year everyone. For me my personal resolution is to work on my patience. In terms of getting things done - I think this is the year I redo my kitchen (nothing crazy). Was all set to do it early last year and decided against it, thinking we might move. Well - sat on my hands too long for that given how much housing prices exploded in my area, but redoing the kitchen area with new cabinets/counters (+ creating a more natural island than the current set-up) will be a very nice refresh. If I end up selling in a couple years - it will help sell the house and in the meantime we can enjoy a bit more modern of a kitchen.

Well - technically it seems like the whole "interview" early thing was really a bunch of nothing anyway and the Tribune had a good piece a week ago showing how there is basically no data that shows hiring early vs. late has any barring on whether you are successful in your hire or not. I actually read a good piece from Bill Polian who talked about his own experience hiring coaches which tended to lean on the - I'd rather take more time than less...but also went as far as saying, when you know your candidate, you know...but to know you have to spend TIME with them and get to KNOW them. But I should add - if they are going to fire Pace, you are spot on - it certainly would be just one more reason not to make a move with Nagy immediately (and to be honest - as much as we complain about Nagy - it isn't like he's the dumpster fire Trestman is). He is what he is.

I was worried this was going to be a trap game. They really haven’t played very well past three games….but pulled them out which is huge. Bmags….if they lost, I was going to call the bulls and tell them to bar you from 100 level haha. Having sat down low (never truly courtside - that is my bucket list like you) two or three times…it is just incredible watch. The players are even more athletic and talented when you see it up close vs 200 or 300 level seat.

Rosenthal fired for criticism of Manfred
Chisoxfn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And cue the timeline for Manfred to be gone. Horrible commish. -
Lonzo back tonight. Javonte put 2-4 weeks with his groin injury. I am hoping Caruso is back for the Wizards game on Friday.

Jealous!!! Have fun!!!

I donot think they need to make a big trade - just find another big and role with this unit. 55 would be stellar.
-
I think this is Nagys last game. If they are seriously going after Harbaugh I expect they put the accelerator down fast. Armstrong reps Harbaugh too.
-
That was not the shot they should have gotten but it worked. Way to battle with everything going Indianas way. Indiana destroyed bulls on offensive glass - especially late. That is a game where having Ball and Caruso would have been huge. White had a 3rd straight good game.

I don’t know is this is the right place for this post - but this is also a good reminder for all of us parents, especially those with young kids - life insurance and trusts are annoying but important to get done. Doesn’t have to be a ton - but less than 100 per month would have generated approx 1M in coverage per spouse (given their young ages). You hope that 100 per month is a total waste but for these types of situations at least you know beyond the emotional hardship at least financially they will be in a position and with a trust you can outline how the proceeds are used until they reach various stages in life etc.

So he is assuming they are going for a pretty big name guy. I am okay if they plan on landing Pete Caroll or Harbaugh or Payton and giving them control. Not that I see any way Payton happens.
-
That would imply Pace is around for longer - or that is how I would read into it - otherwise you are right - it would be really short sited - unless they plan on making a change on football side now knowing a new Ted will take over in 1-2 years on the non football side or in a role that reports to the main president who was hired now (with ted still remaining on to finalize stadium deal and maybe help groom the president on the non football stuff until he retires). The above would kind of make sense.

Another fun game - Zach ultra efficient again and a ton of great ball movement. White, Javante and Ayo all with real good games too. White 12 dimes was nice to see.

Turns out I too have Covid. Had a little cold and got tested today (was going to leave the house and be at an event this weekend so wanted to get tested just in case) and turns out I had Covid (I am literally 90 percent at this point). Had both vax plus my booster so pretty sure that helped keep this thing as minor as it was (sore throat and a bit of congestion for about 3 days…at this point all that is left is a bit of congestion.

That was the way I read it - that the NBA thinks he will be back.

Rip Madden. A total legend and one of the voices of my personal journey into NFL fandom. I always hoped he would do an annual turkey game broadcast just for old times.

I had read the same thing re: Williams. I am curious if it is with his injured wrist or not. Didn’t see enough specifics. I saw him shooting back when they played at staples but it was with his other hand and he was still in a cast. If this is no cast - great sign. In general I feel like this front office / med staff has had a different mode of managing injuries. They tend to advertise longer windows and players largely come in better than advertised. Not always the case but seems to be a trend. Smart from how they manage expectations (at a minimum).
-
No they aren’t. I don’t know if half of your list are great ones or not. Carson Wentz was better than some of them out of the gate and he is above average now but not elite. Mahomes is the goat - Herbert looks legit. Jackson is special due to his legs…Murray was system guy who got better every year (but had no adjustment cause they set it up perfectly…smart coaching vs idiot stick Nagy). Wilson, Lawrence stink right now. Doesn’t mean they will stink. Fields had been better than both of them. Mac was put in best spot (elite and smart coaching). I don’t know what Fields would be but he can be great…he can be a turd…he might just be okay…but all of those are still very plausible outcomes vs the asinine box you are putting on him.
-
Fair point on Wilson. But I still go back to their are plenty who were meh or not that good but who flashed (key distinction) who than got better. Fields will likely suck…but not because of his not being above average as a rookie but because the odds are against him and any young qb. He has tools and flashed it qualities…he has also flashed reasons to be concerned. But his qb rating in year one is right around many young qbs were who became good early in their career. I said qb rating not qbr. His qbr sucks largely because of his fumbles…which are a concern but something that can be easily fixed with better awareness and more experience plus better approach for how he handles the ball.
-
You are completely ignoring the list I gave you. And Wilson was not well above average. Newton won an mvp but he was not a special or above average passer early in his career. And Rodgers and Mahomes were 3rd and 2nd year players.
-
No - than I proved my point because the vast majority weren’t above average in year one. My list shows and proves it and where there are exceptions they are rare and usually a story behind the exception (such as Murray and same system or Lamar and how they tailored and designed everything for him.
