  1. Edit: I fell for a tweet that got retweeted but was related to Feb 23 (not this year).
  2. A real front office would have done something - maybe found a creative way to get Bogan from Pistons cause New York didn't give up much anything.
  3. Seperate question - was there a QB taken at #2 (in a #1 / #2 group) who ended up being really good? I know there are ones that have been taken later that ended up elevating (say a Big Ben) or a Phil Rivers. But in a draft where QB went #1/#2 - is there a data set for a that 2nd pick who ended up being really good (vs. not).

But in a draft where QB went #1/#2 - is there a data set for a that 2nd pick who ended up being really good (vs. not). Update: I looked it up. You had: Bledsoe / Mirer - Mirer stunk Manning / Leaf - Leaf stunk Couch / McNabb - McNabb was a hit Goff / Wentz - Wentz eventually stunk - albeit there was a point where he looked better than Goff Lawrence / Wilson - Wilson stunk
  5. I was listening to Matt Hasselbach on this morning. He brought up an interesting point - basically he thinks Maye is an absolute physical stud. So he puts Maye in the same light as Herbert / Allen from a pure physical gift perspective. Not saying his on field performance is necessarily all the way there - but that when you think of his age, what he can do, how he spins it, his character, etc - he really has everything. He might be a bit more raw - but he's also still super young and for those close to him - he's likely still growing. In Hasselbach's eyes, Maye is one of the most talented QB's to come out in the draft in the last 5-10 years (he didn't say Caleb wasn't either) - but basically he said - these 2 guys are going to grade out massively well. If that is the case - his view was, Bears SHOULD keep that view extremely close to the vest so the rest of the league (specifically Washington doesn't know) and essentialy force Washington's hand. In short - Hasselbach thinks Williams & Maye are elite QB prospects and doesn't differentiate much between the two. Pure tools he thinks Maye is BETTER. So if Washington really wants Williams - play tough - and get the #2, #40 (2nd rounder which was the Bears), and a #1 next year (this is probably realistic - if you really pushed - maybe you could get both 2nd rounders this year - but that might be a lot less likely). He had Bears than trading Fields (lets say for a 2nd and 3rd). Now you are looking at Bears having 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds in '24. #2 - Drake Maye #9 - Weapon for Maye (OT/TE/WR) or you can take Top Dline 2nd Rounder (from Washington) - Center or Defense 2nd Rounder (for Fields) - Deep wideout draft - so could go that or you could go safety (Ejax replacement) 3rd Rounder (for Fields) - BPA 3rd Rounder (Bears) - BPA In 24 Bears have - 4 Picks in 1st 2 rounds Own 1st Rounder Washington 1st Rounder Own 2nd Rounder Carolina 2nd Rounder Note: They may even have 1 more higher end pick - depending on the value they could extract from Washington. I will caveat - I think what is proposed above is NOT unrealistic. It assumed Fields goes for a 2nd and 3rd rounder (which i think is a reasonable assumption). It has Washington giving up a 1st next year and 2nd rounder this year - which I think is in the ballpark. I think anything less and it isn't worth it for the Bears to make the move and I certainly could see scenario(s) where the Bears could get a bit more.
  6. In fairness Konerko and Buehrle spent the vast majority of their careers in Chicago.
  7. I’ll be honest - I wouldn’t mind signing TA to one year deal. Give him at bats and hope he is healthy and you can flip him at deadline. Similarly i have no issue with Whit on 1 year deal. Let him play a bit at 2B and OF…just like id have TA play some 2B and SS. Both would be signings with hope you could flip. Maybe not for a ton but at least something - even if it is bonus pool and draft picks. Reality is with TA if he is healthy and bounced back - you are taking a flyer on someone who would be valuable at deadline and if Whit is hitting decent a team may give you an interesting flyer or two.
  8. Bulls need to trade Demar, Caruso, and ideally Vooch. Let Pat and White and Ayo get tons of minutes. They will lose a lot of games - but maybe ping pong balls go there way and White hopefully keeps his ascent and maybe the other guys do as well. Hit on your draft pick and than let a healthy Lavine hopefully look good and deal him.
  9. They need to be fired. Let someone new run the show.
  10. Caleb already was quoted saying he will play anywhere and rappapport confirmed something similar.
  11. I don’t know what the hell this team is doing. I suppose maybe in long run they need to get Lavine out there and maybe do something on court so you can deal in offseason but at least move on from Derozan if you can or get a ton of capital for Caruso while he still has one more year under contract. This is probably the single worse front office in Chicago sports history with how little they do and that says a lot given the Rick Hahn era.
  12. I will root for Chiefs, but was hoping for Lions/Ravens. Respect the heck out of Chiefs though.
  13. Washington is a very good hire. Bills dline has been quite good and their defense is solid. I have no issues with this hire.
  14. McVay, Shanny, and Reid (for a long time - maybe not now) all call plays. Does that make them not serious?
  15. I agree - it’s why when people say get MHJ and than find qb or ignore that I think they are crazy. With that said - when you have a chance to surround them with more talent you should. Mahomes started his career with prime Kelce and Tyreek. Burrows benefited from Tee and Chase. Dak has talent. Hurts has Brown and Smith.
  16. So last year - I was all about the super trade - move down to 2 - than get another haul to move further down. I actually think of all the places I frequent - a year ago I was one of the first to mention such a thing (than Poles and the NFL media started doing it - and no - not because of me). This year - I am all about the - Caleb & WR train - but after seeing yesterday's absurd mock but than Balta's more realistic proposals. I am really all in on the Caleb and MHJ train. I'd even go further to say - use next pick on best center available - use another pick on a wideout (or FA money) and than while we are kind of ignoring defense in the draft....use our FA money on pass rush and than assess what we do at safety. I expect bumps with Caleb (or any rookie QB) - but you hope by 2H of '24 you really see a QB who is elevating his game and showing what he can be. Clearly best case is he plays like Stroud - but if Caleb does that than next year you still have your assets and should actually still be in a good cap position to than get back to drafting the defensive side as well as potentially making a play at LT.
  17. Maybe this is a good sign - they plan on cleaning a lot up but really are positive / hopeful they will be in a better position a year from now to really be turning the trajectory (not saying we will be talking about a playoff team next year - but maybe last year and part of this year is the rock bottom and than they start moving up - new stadium becomes official, some younger prospects start to take off, they make a few more moves to improve young talent in system (at a cost of ML talent of course) and than we see them start to making some better investments into the franchise. I still expect a rough couple of years - but as pessimistic as I have become (which is hard for me to say cause I'm an optimist) - I haven't had much issue with most of what Getz has been doing.
  18. I hate trading up in general - but in this scenario, I think I would. Just because I think MHJ and Caleb paired together is just so worth it. I really hate giving up #75 (just because they got to get a center). I can kind of justify the future 2nd cause they have the Panthers and there own.
  19. Yeah - forget all the other picks - if you could move #9 and Fields for #3 - run to the bank and be happy.
  20. Welp - this is the mock draft of all mock drafts. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/mock-draft-fields-headed-patriots-162604963.html Caleb at 1 MHJ at 3 (Bears trade up with New England giving up #9, Fields and 2025 6th rounder; Bears get back #3 pick, 4th rounder, and 2025 3rd and 5th rounder) Note: This would be a coup de coup. I don't believe for one second what the author proposes is realistic, but boy would I be happy. I presume only way this type of haul happens is if there is at least a mid to late 1st round grade applied to Fields.
  21. He should go to Chargers. I am a huge Vrabel fan - but I wouldn't recommend him as our DC given the exact reason you mentioned. I don't think it sets anyone up for success. Ron Rivera is same boat for me. Flus is the HC and Defensive guy - he does need to bring in someone who can help him though.
  22. My near fear is Ferentz will tab Getsy as Iowa's new OC. It seems clear to me from the timing of things that I think Ferentz is going to pull an NFL assistant as his OC (I thought it would have been Chryst or whatever the old Wisconsin coaches name was).
  23. I'm with you, I think this is a really solid hire. I'm not saying he's the greatest OC in the world - but he's experience and has a solid track-record. He worked with a HOF HC in Carroll and obviously Pete had his views but Shane ran the show from play calling on down and so we are getting a seasoned individual who knows what to do. I love some of the articles I've seen out there in terms of Waldron having a track record in helping QB's speed up decision/making & process time and clearly Geno Smith made huge leaps forward from his Jets days (how much of that is due to Waldron vs. his staff vs. Geno's hard work - who knows - but on paper its a positive). Wilson also was quicker getting ball out under Waldron. I also don't think he's the next Sean McVay or Shanny or Reid - but I think that is okay. Having a really solid and stable guy who knows what he is doing is great - whether it is looking to get more out of Justin or looking to build a solid structure for development around a rookie QB. I'm also presuming we will see Greg Olsen emerge as the QB coach - again, I didn't like Olsen as an OC - but what I love about Olsen is him and Waldron worked together - they have a built in trust, so I suspect that means the risk that you have too many voices gets reduced (that isn't to say you don't want different perspectives - you do - but you want them grounded in similar principles otherwise you kind of get to information overload which I think negatively impacted Bryce Young with what Panthers did this year but also back to Eagles with Carson Wentz). Bottom Line: They are hiring a respectable, proven OC, who is also young and should have credibility to go get quality offensive assistants too.
