Well, there are no teams I'd rather have a young pitcher open against than the Tigers and other bad teams. Hopefully the schedule stays pretty balanced though. All I know is this team has way too much talent to fail. Anything less then the playoffs is a huge dissapointment and Manuel has a ton of pressure on him right now, so do the players.

Sn Report: Rogers Rejects Offer, Wants More By: Mario Scalise Written: Febuary 12, 2003

I can buy into what he says, mainly because Sosa was very talented but so is Carlos offensively. Sosa had and always will have more talent defensively. When he came up he had an amazing arm and tremendous speed as well as a live bat. Carlos will never have the speed or arm Sosa once had. As far as Maggs goes, I dont' think he was ever this amazing tools player. He was a guy that could flat out rake the ball and he made the best of his shot at the major league level. I always think of him as a surprise player thats going to eventually be an MVP.

Cool, have fun Mike and I promise my report will be up by the time your back.

I've been thinking heavily on this subject and have done quite a bit of reading and talking to some of my professors. I know Apu has his statement regarding what we would be doing would be an illegal war. Well, let me say this much, from what I've read and heard, there were plenty of people saying the same thing when World War II came around and the Nazis were slaughtering everyone. Sometimes you have to go out and take a stand, even if some countries disagree. Saddamm is an asshole, who has chemical weapons and has no fear whatsoever in deploying them or his nukes. Why do people keep saying, make him disarm. Isn't that what the US has been trying to do for the past 10 years, yet he never ever complies? When is enough enough. Also, France is probably over there helping Saddam out for whatever reason because they are still bitter we forgot about them after the Revolutionary War. Of course we aided them in Vietnam and in the World War's but whats that matter to France. Anyway, what I'm getting at is now is the time to make the stand. The people of Iraq want a new regime and according to some people I've talked to that lived in Iraq and still have family there, the people will support the United States. The one thing I wonder is whose going to take over. Also, Apu is right 100%. Bin Laden does hate Saddam. Saddam isn't religious whatsoever while Bin Laden is an extremely religious person.

Clayton has reported anything less than a very sucessful campaign will be the end of Jauron and Nick Saban will be the Bears coach in 2004.

Ya, I am pretty sure thats how many he won. Thats coming from a guy that was making his first full season debut in the majors. I don't think many pitchers in their first full season win 14 games. Thats dang impressive and he's going to be a really good pitcher. I think we'll see him and Garland make huge improvements this year over what was a pretty respectable campaign last year. I consider both near locks to win 15 games if they are healthy. They both have phenomenal stuff and have showed me the ability to pitch and they are getting more consistent with every outing. This rotation and team are going to be fun to watch. I've always been excited about the Sox offense, now I'm excited about the pitching staff and that includes the starters and relievers.

Awesome post Brando. I agree with you on all your points when it comes to Lee. I think so many people think of his bad plays and forget about all his good ones. He's one of those players people over-analyze. Yes, he's made his mistakes, but every player does. Its kind of like the Bears, so many over analyze Dez Whites drops yet they forget all about it when Booker drops touchdown passes, something he did at least 4 times last year, which is inexcuseable. Caballo is going to be really fun to watch this year. Look at the walk numbers he put up last year. Typically you don't draw that many walks by accident. To me there are the one thing when it comes to stats that is rarely a fluke.

Well... My last job is to build the gallows in the parking lot so I can be hung until dead at noon Saturday. In short.. I'm currently seeking employment. - Pete Oh well. The thought was definately nice, now we get to see Rauch show his stuff. I can't believe the reports that have Loiza as our 5th starter. Rauch will beat him out. The Sox are now likely to start the season with a 4 man rotation though. So I think Rauch will open up in the bullpen and get his feet wet a bit again this season and then make his start later in April or early May. I haven't looked at the schedule yet to see when the Sox would likely go to a 5 man rotation. LETS GO WHITESOX

In that case, Evans idiotisms go back previous to just last year. I think he was the one who gave up Jorge Julio or whatever his name is to the Orioles for some bum reliever that stunk with the Dodgers. In his defense he did bring in Gullermo Mota who looks like a decent prospect, although Herges was really good for the Dodgers. He also brought in Perez although I think Jordan sucks and Sheffield is damn good. Either way, I'll definately take KW over Dan Evans.

Manuel will definately be fired, but I don't think Williams will be. I think Reinsdorf likes Williams quite a bit and realizes he can only put the team together on paper, the rest of the responsibilities fall on Manuel's and the players shoulders. I think Williams has done is part, now the players will need to produce and Manuel will need to do his job as manager.

I'll see what I can do about making a media section. I just wonder if the Sox own the rights to that song or anything.

Why was she forced to sell anyway? I can't remember, but I thought it was for comments she said, but I can't recall what.

I think Olivo will start the season playing only occassionaly. Alomar will likely be the opening day catcher but as the season progresses the Sox will put more and more duties as well as pressure on Olivo. Personally, I think this is the best way to develop a catching prospect, because there is so much to learn. They don't only have to worry about hitting, but they have to learn there pitching staffs, how to call a game, blocking the plate etc.

Baggs, were definately seeing eye to eye on this issue. As far as Vlad goes, Montreal would be stupid to deal one of the most marketable players in the majors. They will hold onto him, because if they got rid of him the Expos would be worthing absolutely nothing, instead of 150 million or so. That is the one good selling point that team has, especially since they are going to be playing some games in Puerto Rico.

I think both pitchers already know exactly whats going on.

He's not eligible, but he should definately be really fun to watch. He had amazing numbers last year. If he were able to do that over a full season, he'd probably be the Sox 2nd best offensive threat. That isn't likely, but this kid is going to be really good. Welcome aboard!!!!

Do you remember how horrible the O's were at the end of last season? No way they finish any higher than 4th. They haven't done anything of consequence to improve their team. The front office changes were needed, but that hasn't translated to the field yet. But I also remember how they played pretty stinking good during the middle part of the season. They have some decent young players, but they missed out big time in free agency. They tried signing quite a few players and fell short.

Come on, you have to look at some of his recent moves and admit they have bee pretty good, like he has a clue. Also, I know people talk about it, but the Sox weren't the only team that made deals because they thought they were going to get nothing else in return and wanted to cut some salary. Cleveland was about the only team out there that was able to get value and they got it from the Expos as well as the Dodgers (Because Evans is an idiot). Otherwise, not many talented players went anywhere. Oh ya, Evans also shipped off a good prospect for Tyler Houston of all people. Plus he did bring the Sox Felix Diaz for Kenny Lofton. He did get beat by Billy Beane, but so have plenty of other gm's.

Who should they go with: Couch (For 3rd or 4th Rounder) Kordell (Via Free Agency) Leftwich/Palmer (Via Draft) I'm going to go with Kordell or Couch unless Palmer is there. I'm really loving the idea of Suggs, if he's available and that is no guarantee with him moving up. The Bengals may take him. Of course if that happens, then the #4 pick will have some value as Palmer will be there and I could see some teams interested in dealing up to get him, meaning the Bears could stockpile, move down a bit, maybe with Dallas, still pick up the corner from Kansas State (Newman), plus a 2nd round pick and a little more. Then in the 2nd round they could go with a qb like Ragone as well as McGahee. Then in the 3rd they go with best available, maybe reciever, and then go through for best player on the boards and eventually get Casey Urlacher as a potential safety as an undrafted free agent. I do like the idea of getting Arnaz Battle as our return man.

If Brownlie was there with our pick, I'd sign him in a heartbeat. As far as that kid from Santa Margarita, I'll have to ask some of my buddies about him. He sounds really good. That catcher sounds solid too, but I really don't have much trust in college catchers. One I happen to like is Stanfords catcher, but I forget his name.

I dont' know if anyone else read this, but I saw where he was cleared to play, but as of right now the Bulls dont have any plans on activating him. What I want to know is what the heck are they waiting for. Get him out there and see what he can do, so next season we kind of know if we got something in him or not. Also, Crawford was benched today and I got to say it was a bunch of bulls***. Jay Williams hasn't done one damn thing to earn that starting job, while Crawford has played his ass off and is a much much better defensive player. I can't believe how bad Williams is defensively. I've always thought he was a bust and he keeps proving me right, I wish he wouldn't. Seriously though, why the heck are the Bulls looking to move Williams when he is the one with more value then Crawford. Lets keep Crawford and ship Williams out of her along with someone else for a guard. Like I say, I could care less if we dealt him for Mike Dunleavy Jr whose done nothing in Golden State. At least we'd get a potential future guard. Also, Cartwright is really getting on my nerves. That dummy benched Chandler for being late to practice because he missed his flight. Of course he was at the airport 2 hours early, but problems occured. How the hell is that his fault? Bill, I'm liking you less and less every day. First off, your ideas of this offense SUCK. This is a run and gun team, not a slow it down and bang inside. No matter what you think, Chandler and Curry RIGHT NOW are best on the run and Crawford and Erob are great on the fast break. Then you have Rose that can do either and Marshall is pretty quick as well. He's probably the only one suited for that slow paced style offense. This is all getting ridiculous. I sounded off on it on Gary and I's show last Saturday and I know I'm going to be talking about it more this Saturday because I'm getting more pissed about it. This team sucks, they do nothing to show me they are improving. Rose and Marshall are the only reason this team is better. Development isn't happening. This team needs a new mindset. Cartwright is great and all, but I want Van Gundy a guy that is proven. This Bulls team is sorry. Of course, it ain't going to happen. I praise Bill and I am with him on his defensive philosphy but juts because he likes a slow paced game doesn't mean its best for his team. Why the hell do the coaches in Chicago build their systems and try to force people to fit into it, instead of simply molding and building the best system for the team so they pieces fit pretty much perfect. Oh well, enough of my rant. On a final note, TRADE CURRY, Send Brunson to the IR, Activate Mason Jr., Activate Baxter; Send Bagaric to IR. Trade Jwill or Crawford. One has to go, thats that. Also, enough of this draft pick bulls***, the Bulls need players. They need a really good shooting guard that can play defense, but score as well. Oh ya, bench Hassell as well. Let him and Mason Jr fight it out.

Carlos Quentin of Standford is a very good player. So is Wes Littleton and Chad Cordero of Cal State Fullerton. Both of them are pitchers. Quentin is a right fielder that reminds me a lot of Borchard. The guy is a tremendous hitter with power, but he has a very very strong arm and from what I saw its very accurate. He almost gunned down quite a few people the day I saw him play.

I think Mark wants a long term deal and I think he will eventually get it. This season is going to be a big one for the Franchise. If the Sox struggle, then you can count on a ton of trades. If they live up to expectations and beyond, then they should get increased fan support and should have the money to resign there free agents and reward other players with long term deals and maybe even afford adding another free agent or two. This is really a key point. If they fail this year then Frank, Carlos, PK, Magglio, and Colon will all potentially be gone, maybe even Koch or at least a few of them.
