  1. I think they made him the offer. I know it was rumored they were going to talk to him this weekend and he was going to make his decision this week. Hopefully he wants to come to the Sox. I'd think Boston would be willing to offer more then the Sox. I don't know where Rogers is from, but to be honest, I wonder why he'd pick this Sox team over Boston. Maybe he realizes they got to get by the Yankees and we have a bad division where even if the Sox don't get past the Twins, they would still have an excellent shot at the wild card because of all the poor teams they play. I know I want to see him signed.
  2. They may piss you and me off, but the fact of the matter is most HOF players aren't all sunshine-n-smiles. Most people aren't, period. Nodoby likes Albert Belle and Barry Bonds, but you can't ignore their on-filed contributions. If you don't want to get Griffey because he is lazy, declining, injury-prone or combination of all 3, that's fine. "Selfish and arrogant" arguement doesn't and shouldn't hold up as far as winning (care to remember when the Sox last won the series, Mac?) is concerned. Maybe that's just me. I despise Tiger "I am a cheap, arrogant, apathetic and racist prick and proud of it" Woods, but his talent is undeniable. I know one thing, there is no offensive player that I've ever seen thats better then Barry Bonds. That guy is a machine. He has a beautiful swing, a great eye, and in his prime he was a gold glover outfielder. He also is a very good baserunner. He's truly an amazing specimen.
  3. Remember guys. Political viewpoints differ a whole lot and everyone will have there own opinion regarding the issues whether they voice it or not. Just try not to take things to far. Politics is a really difficult thing to talk with. Typically I disagree with Apu, but he definately is well educated in the areas and is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else is. Of course, lets keep all political talk off the main boards; This is for Sox talk, where we may agree on minor issues, but we all agree that the SOX KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Frank struggled last year because he wasn't reading the pitches. He didn't know whether it was a fastball or a curve or a ball or a strike and when that happens, your never going to have sucess. Late in the season he started figuring things out, which is expected. When you sit out for a full season, your definately going to have trouble getting back up to game speed and it took him a long time to start seeing the ball correctly. Until he was seeing the ball, he was basically guessing and always fiddling with a swing, which stops you from being able to get comfortable. Once he started seeing the ball, he was able to work on one swing and with that came consistency, something we saw at the very end of the season. Only the first month or so do I really think the injury effected him. I think his bat speed was fine very early on, it was the things that take a long time to come back, such as game speed, your eye, etc.
  5. there is some sort of operating agreement between the leagues; the dude is under a contract that MLB is bound to respect. And as Jason says, future working relationships depend on abiding on the terms of the agreement. The dips*** is this Millar. Signs a contract and then wants to say never mind. It reminds me of that great governor in California, named Gray Davis. He signed a contract for electricity deals. He got ripped off on the contract and once the energy crisis was over he had his people rip up the contract, even though it was a 25 year deal, just because he's the freakin governor. If you sign something, then you damn well better represent it or pay the money to get yourself out of it.
  6. Ya, that was an awesome read. I really like Cooper and I truly believe we have one of the best pitching coaches in the entire major leagues. Thank goodness the Sox finally gave Nardi the boot. I expect Cooper to do an excellent job developing our young pitchers and helping Colon and the vets as well. I wonder what would of happen to Kip had Cooper been the pitching coach then.
  7. that happens to me a lot also...for almost up to a week sometimes the site will just not load I'm going to have to contact the server company about this and try to fix that problem. I never knew of it before, but hopefully they know what to do and can fix it. What kind of an error message do you get Kark?
  8. This is sweet. I read somewhere a while ago that we pretty much had Ortiz until the Braves made that offer. Then we made a fair deal to Daal. Man, this would be a sweet signing. I'd really be happy. You can never have too many pitchers, especially when you got 5 guys that can throw innings.
  9. Really? So if Delgado only cost 8 mill as opposed to 18 you wouldn't do the trade? Common, it's not like we are talking about Tony Clark or Fred McGriff here, whitesox247. Paul's potential and leadership are nice to have and all that (although the latter os overrated; whining is NOT equal to chemistry), but Delgado's best year is amazing 300 OPS points higher than Paul's. With shorter fences at the Cell and the general lift in spirits that often accompanies change in scenery (for one, don't tell me Latino comminuty in Torono is anything like it is in Chicago), Delgado is a near-automatic MVP. ETA: Just for future reference, am I the only person who uses OPS and RBI/ab to gauge a hitter's productivity as opposed to average and homers? Typically, I go off my opinion. I am confident in my knowledge. To me though, I think the best way to do it is to look at many different stats as well as see how they play. There are many different ways to judge it. I do think Avg, Rbi's are important. Now sometimes, those numbers can be lucky though.
  10. I can't wait. March 15th or so and I'll be watching the Sox. Damn it I need a time machine.
  11. Damn this is really intriguing. If Griffey could get back into his form and stay healthy, this would be an unbelievable deal. Adam Dunn is a freaking pimp of an outfield. Borchard is too and then you have Griffey, one of the best centerfielders of all time. It would be really tough to deal Magglio though. Still, this is something that I'd definately think about. Financial wise it makes sense and Dunn and Borchard would both be awesome defensively at their respective positions. Geeze. If there was a way to give up Thomas and not Magglio, then it would be really sweet, but that ain't going to happen. Either way, this deal would really intrigue me. Financially it makes sense and we get two awesome players in return......IF GRIFFEY IS HEALTHY.
  12. I wish I could of seen him play.
  13. Thats what Maggs reminds me of. He's a lot like Edgar with that live bat. He can hit the ball to all parts of the field. Magglio may be the best offensive player in the majors in a year or two.
  14. Still, he did sign a contract and I think MLB doesn't want to ruin its relationship with the japanese teams.
  15. Its alright, Dallas is America's team too and look where they are. All I care about is the Sox being World Champs.

That one works. Its the older version. I have the other one set up, just need to customize it and then I'll let everyone decide which one they would rather use.
  17. Things have been quiet. The longer he stays out there, the better the shot or thats what I'd assume.
  18. Hey Nuke. I hope everything is going good where you are and it will be great once your back. Take care man and stay safe!!!!
  19. yu0 = uninformed. Stop watching Fox News. The economy is suffering because the stock market was so inflated. Companies that weren't making anything, that had super high P/E ratios were going through the roof. Those prices had to go down and as the market fell the economy wouldn't be as good. No one could possibly believe Amazon was worth what it was or that Aol was worth what it was.

    Dane Cook Alert!

Alright, I got my tix's. 3 of them to the 10:00 show. MY asian buddy isn't going to be there, but a tall really skinny white guy will be there in his presence. Well like 6'2 or so.
  21. Be forwarned, It may just be the Jason show today. Nope, Gary is going to be able to make it.
  22. i think the way to go is to package up lee and a good pitching prospect or 2 for a quality left handed power hitting CF...then LF is open to borchard (or RF and move maggs to left) when borchard is ready and rowand can patrol lf until then (which is more his natural position anyways) i know alot of you didnt like it but i still think sending lee, wunsch and a pitching prospect (or lee and some other combo) to boston for nixon and nilsson would really go along way to strengthening our up the middle defense... our line up jimenez - 2b valentin -ss maggs - rf thomas -dh konehead -1b nixon-cf crede -3b rowand -daubach platoon -lf c- olivo - alomar/when alomar goes on the DL - nilsson boston damon - cf giambi - lf nomar- ss ramirez -rf lee - dh ortiz - 1b hillenbrand -3b varatek -c walker- 2b not sure of the exact order but those 9 would make a real power packed line for beantown..that line up is better than ours..they have quality hitters one through nine.. i think its a deal that really helps both teams... Baggs I like that idea a whole lot. My question is are there any teams willing to take on Lee's salary and in return give us a centerfielder that makes that much or less. The one guy I love is Carlos Beltran, but would the Royals take on Lee? He would definately give them a good stick and it makes more sense long term. You get Beltran there in center to improve the d and then can stick with Borchard or Rowand in left and as you say, once Borchard is ready full time, Maggs moves to left. Then we have a really good defense with great arms at each slot. Maggs would have a great arm for a left fielder. We know Beltran and Borchard have guns.
  23. From what I Know he was outrighted, but for some reason I think he's going to pitch in the organization again this year. I read something on BA and they still had him listed in the Sox organization. He did pitch pretty good in the Winter Leagues. I do agree though, Barcelo was impressive when he came up in 2000. Its too bad he got hurt, cause with him, we'd have an even nastier pen. Baggs is right though, KW didn't like him, because he couldn't take the normal pain of being a pitcher or something like that.

    Dane Cook Alert!

Nope, one is an Angel fan the other is a big time Buc fan. The Asian one looks like a hired goon. I'm almost positive I'll be there, well as long as I get off my lazy ass and call them.
