Rollins isn't insurance. He's simply one of the better leadoff hitters in the majors. Jimenez hasn't proven a thing yet, and its tough not knowing what your leadoff hitter can do. I think we all learned this year how important a leadoff hitter is. When Lofton was struggling the team stunk. Then Jimenez arrived and played really good, but he's never proven a thing over a full season. Plus, a top of the lineup with Rollins and Jimenez would be one of the best in baseball, which would be really good for one of the best middle of the orders in the majors. Then the Sox could just let Borchard come up for good or put Harris in the 9 hole adding even more speed. Either way, it really completes the lineup. I would definately miss Rauch though. I'd much rather find a way to give them another prospect. If we sign Rogers, then look for this deal to go down though. Or if this deal goes down first, then look for the Sox to add Rogers.

One homer I just remembered is the one Bonds hit in the World Series against the Angels. I remember no one knew where the ball went, but some said it hit off the scoreboard and let me tell ya, either way it was a bomb.

The biggest reason I want Rollins is it answers what may be my biggest fear, the lack of a real good leadoff hitter, one thats proven himself. It also gets Manos out of Chicago, something I can't complain about and opens up our infield. The defense will be much much better, making the pitching staff better. I do love Rauch though. It could turn out bad for the Sox, but I do think Rollins is one of the best shortstops in baseball and he should only get better.

Well, you can at least watch our Sox and hope that the Indians can one day reach there old level. They could be fun to watch this year though, if your one of those people that enjoys seeing young players develop. Of course, I'm ready to watch the Sox and Twins battle it out and then playoff games, etc. GO SOX GO

Agreed, I tend to think Anaheim has the best lineup in baseball. They have guys that can hit for power, avg, and they all are patient hitters that can draw walks. They also don't k too much.

I'm guessing its a sumo from Japan.

If we sign Rogers I'd do this trade. I'd hesitate, but I'd do it. I love Rollins. With him we get a legit shortstop and then have Jimenez at 2nd. Our infield would be young, fast and talented as would the top of our order. Jimmy has insane speed and will make the Sox so much more exciting at the top of the lineup. Oh ya, this deal would be one I'd do, although I'd love getting them to take someone like Malone or Stewart instead. Could this really be true? I see why the Sox would do it. They get a infielder of the future and present that gives them a legit leadoff hitter and then with Jimenez in the 2 hole the Sox also have a more legit 2 hitter. They also save 4 mill or so this year, meaning they could afford bringing in Kenny Rogers. I'd absolutely drool over this deal if we gave up someone other then Rauch, either way I like it though, because I think it makes us a way better team this year and with all the depth we have in the minors, we could lose a pitcher and be alright.

Exactly....why would Boros ever allow KR to sign a deal for $$ under 1-1.5 a year when he refused a deal in the 4+ range a few months ago....and I can't believe that Boros would include those bogus incentives relating to attendence that Lofton agreed to.... Rogers would make cents if JR would ok it since their only lefty option is Stewart and he is just not ready yet.....a solid vet with a good trackrecord for accumulating innings...and as we all know, innings is everything.... Boras is as good as it gets, imo. He's an unbelievably good agent. That being said, they made a big mistake this time around. Is anyone giong to tell me that Rogers is seriously going to get 4 million a year, especially when no one is getting that type of money this offseason. Him and Rogers should of never turned that deal down, and I think they will both admit that.

He could play there in a bind, but it wouldn't be pretty. I seem to remember him playing in CF a few times in 2001 when they were experimenting with Jose in the OF, putting Jose in RF. From what I recall, he didn't have the greatest arm to get it in from deep center. You need the OFer with the best throwing arm in CF, as the distance to the plate is longer. I don't think Maggs in CF is a really good idea. The best throwing arm is and should be in right, because they are the ones who have the best angle throwing home and also have a long throw to 3rd, something that is utilized very often. Think, they may not get the guy out at 3rd, but a good arm can stop guys from taking 3rd on a single. Leftfielders don't have to worry about this, they have an easy throw to both 2nd and 3rd. Centerfielders also have an easy throw to 2nd and 3rd, and typically there throw home isn't too bad, unless it is a deep shot, and in that case, your not going to get the guy anyway, if he is tagging up.

This would be an awesome pickup. I see Rogers as the #5 though. THe main reason is you don't want Wright going and then Colon because they are both more similar pitchers. If you have Garland and then Wright, you got two different pitchers. Colon and Buerhle is different. Buerhle and Jon is different, while Kenny and Colon is different. That way you never see the same looking pitcher in a row on the Sox. You'd also have 5 guys that threw 180 plus innings last season, which would be very impressive. They'd also have extreme depth if a starter went down with Rauch, Stewart, Loiza, and Heredia all there. If the Sox signed him I'd look for him to be able to make as much as 3 mill or as little as 1.25 or so depending on if he reaches performance incentives. I think they'll do something similar to Lofton's deal. One thing for sure, Rogers has made plenty of money, so I will assume he isn't going to go to Pittsburgh if he has similar offers from Boston or Chicago, so I'm thinking one of the Sox teams gets him. I'm hoping it will be the White Sox. Man would this be huge, especially cause it gives us another guy that is good against the Twinkies.

Well, I think all we'd have to do is eat part of the contract. Other then that he won't cost much anything, imo. I like the idea though. Of course I like Beltran more cause you get some left handed pop.

Glenallen Hill was my favorite player to watch at BP. That guy had cannons for arms and he hit the ball a long way and did it consistently during bp. That shot at wrigley was amazing. Farthest hit ball I ever saw was by Sammy Sosa during BP at Dodger stadium. He hit it like 500 plus feet and it went out of Dodger stadium.

Come on PK, convince Hudson to come to Chicago. Get Zito over here as well. Wait I forget, it was one of the two lefties that was a Sox fan or something.
-
Since when? I remember Maggs playing center and doing an adequate (at least) job. He has the speed and the arm for it. I can see no reason Maggs couldn't play CF in a pinch. He could play there in a bind, but it wouldn't be pretty.

I'm one of the Miles scepicts. Yes, he had great numbers last year, but I ask where were they all the previous years. Hummel put up some very good numbers down at AA himself and he didn't spend 8 years in the minors. In AAA, Tim had his struggles, but he still came on strong at the end of the season and then went on to have a very productive Arizona Fall League. Miles has yet to see AAA and he's already been in the minors for so long. If this kid was in fact so great, I'd think he would have already shown glimpses long before. Of course there are the rare ocassions when a player gets overlooked or the light turns on late, if thats the case and Miles puts up similar numbers in AAA, then he will have earned his shot, but until then, I will list Harris and Hummell both ahead of Miles. I also put Edwin Yan ahead of him, only because I think Yan is going to become a very good player, but thats me just going off a hunch. I love his speed and I think if he develops his bat, then he'll be good.

cant you pick up the wciu games on the other teams station??? Sometimes, but most of the time they don't do it that way, for some reason. I think in the long haul, I get like 130 Sox games, but don't quote me on that.
-
I don't like the DH. I think its good and bad, but all in all I like to see more strategy used, and I think you get that with the National League style of play.

....yeah, except I know if I send this message to some of my buds back in nyc, they are so dumb they may actually believe this article is legit.....lol.... here's to a great 2003 for our beloved sox!!! Welcome Aboard DaSoxRox. Glad to have ya here and I'm with ya on the Sox having an awesome season!!!

It looks more and more likely that it will be Colon starting on opening day cause the Sox have a great shot at landing Kenny Rogers, and Manuel wants to split up the lefties. Think of it this way. Rogers is a soft tosser with a ton of experience, I think he could teach Buerhle a bit more things. He also has good numbers against the Twins and teams that face Rogers and Colon will see soft tosser that mixes pitches and then Colon the guy with gas. Then if they also face Buerhle, you go to a lefty that also throws softer, but has different pitches.

I just can't get over the fact of how great this contract is. The owner can't pocket the money or anything, it has to be spent to improve the team. Secondly, its a Chicago Based company and is ran by a Sox fan.

SN Report: Sox Interested in Rogers By: Blake Baumgartner Dated: Febuary 5, 2003

Joey, glad to have ya back.

I'm so sick of seeing the so called vet Corie Blount out there. The guy makes so many freakin mistakes.
-
The main goal is definately developing players. Still, I agree with Hudler that winning is every bit as important. You need to teach the team concept throughout the minors and when players enjoy winning and get used to it, it can carry over. You don't want someone whose always on the losing end of things, because sometimes they really don't care. This doesn't happen with everyone, but does happen with some. I think the Sox are blessed with some pretty good minor league coaches, especially Backman.

Hassell was my favorite player all of last season. Now he just doesn't cut it. I don't want to dump him, but I'd put him in Hoiberg's role; limited minutes off the BENCH.
