Sox sign: Burke, Morales, Loaiza, Heredia, Cooper,
Chisoxfn replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ya, he's from the Angels. I read that he played like 10 games for them a few years back, but I can't recall ever hearing his name. -
Glad to see ya find people to split the tickets with. By the way, welcome aboard. I think you'll be watching a real exciting team this year.

I don't even think that we had a AAA catcher...except hopefully when Josh Paul goes down, so this at least gives us some depth there. I love these moves...little risk...help push younger guys along...plus I think Daubach can help us out. Lee Evans and Delasandro were the expected AAA catchers and they are nothing special at all. That Burke guy sounds pretty good. As far as the older pitchers, I doubt they'll hold any prospects back. -
Thats what I would of thought, but look at all the moves they are making. I know minor league deals aren't anything, but to the Sox, its a new thing. Usually its the winning teams that sign guys like this to minor league deals for depth and now all of a sudden the Sox are doing it.

I read in Maxim or USA Today or something that Kimmell would of liked Corolla as part of the show, but Adam is really lazy and is happy just being how he is. He didn't even want to do the man show, but Jimmy was able to convince him to do it. Jimmy signed like a 7 yr deal for 1.75 mill this first year.

Excellent point on next season. I like the idea of starting rookie pitchers off slowly, in the pen, like we did with Buerhle. What I'd like to see is us go with a vet the first month or so while Rauch adjusts and then throw him out there. I do think that Rauch is one of those guys that will adjust fast. He knows how to pitch and has very good stuff. Health is still the key questionmark, and I think come spring training we'll see that his velocity is back and that he's 100%.

I looked at Daubach's numbers last year, and they were pretty impressive. .266 avg, 20 hr's, 78 rbi's. Thats a sweet signing, imo. The guy provides left handed power and I think he's got to make the roster after checking out the stats. -
I'd like Palmerio too, but right now I got my sites set on Chuck Finley, but I don't want to give up a draft pick for him, so I'll say Robert Person. I love the idea of Lampkin though. I know the Sox just signed 2 catchers, but you can never have too many, imo. It isn't like we have a lot of catchers in the minors.

He may of finally realized he didn't have any other suitors. KW couldn't just sit and wait on him, so he probably had to look elsewhere. I like the idea of White though. Veterans are really great additions to a bullpen, especially ones that are solid pitchers, although he did have some struggles early last season. By the way, Welcome Aboard!!!!

He's pretty much a first baseman/dh. He probably could handle left though. Good signing though. I wonder if he makes the team. -

These were good moves. Brian Cooper is a guy that was pretty good with the Angels a couple years ago if I recall. He was then dealt to like the Reds and I never heard of him. I see he was with the Jays last year. Daubach is a real solid pickup and Gil Heredia is nice too. He was pretty good a couple years ago. As far as Loiza guys, its another solid move. We really have a lot more depth now, just in case. Gonna try to dig up some more info on the other guys. -
If the Sox go out and sign another player, what position do you think they should adress and who do you think it should be?
-
Rauch will be a stud, I'm with ya on that.
-
He keeps playing really good and the Bulls were able to beat Houston. Once they figure out the whole road thing they are going to be good. I still say who needs Jay Will.
-
His comments in the game remind me a lot of his stupid ass comments in Madden.
-
I'm surprised the Bucs fans made it out of there alive.

As far as Viagra Presents Comiskey Park or whatever they'd call it. Sox New Slogan: Where we play harder, longer!
-
Are we talking about Pete Myers or whatever his name is?
-
I think it will be a good show, but I was kind of dissapointed, mainly because i had such high expectations. He seemed pretty nervous out there, but that should go away with time. I loved the commercials for it though.

Sox will still be bad. Ian, the past couple years I would tell ya how wrong you were or don't say that, but this year, I'm gonna shutup and let you say it. We'll just wait till the end of the season and see

Great publicity! Congrats! But, IMO, it could have done without the Cubs comment. There you were in all your glory being talked to by ESPN Mag.. and you bring up the Cubs..? Was likely funny at the moment... but just adds more fuel to the fire that we actually care about them. Not meant as a slam or an insult.. just my opinion. I didn't really know what they would put up. I talked for like 20 minutes and all of it was about the Sox. That comment was regarding the ownership and I was mentioning how the Tribune spends all that money, yet the Cubs still suck, while JR doesn't spend a penny and they are on the brink with a talented team. I was wondering why he couldn't just spend a bit. Of course, that was all before the recent signings and stuff, which I'm exstatic about. Hopefully there will be plenty of more interviews

Well, I read this entire thread and I'm left very impressed with everyone who took part in it. On this board we have all different kinds of people and all different kinds of opinions, which to me makes this place so much fun. You can discuss many different things, and get view points from people with many different lifestyles. At 19, I know exactly what Roman and some of the other younger posters are talking about. Peer Pressure is definately there. Words like f** and gay or queer are said often. That being said, I also feel this generation is one of the most tolerant of any generation in the history of the world. Sure there are those that look at people and still rip them on race or who they love, etc. Those days are ending though. My thoughts have changed a bit after reading this thread. I'm not anti gay or pro gay. I do believe people can do what they want as long as they aren't hurting anyone else. Homosexuals don't hurt anyone. A friend of mine, who I had been friends with since I was 3, turned out to be gay. It was really weird at first, cause I wondered if it meant things would change. The thing is, people did support him. Heck, even I, someone who has been called homophobic supported him. I've been called homophobic, mainly because I don't understand it. I'd never harm a gay person and I would never shut them out of my life or let something like that stop me from being friends with a person. I probably will never understand it, just like I'll never understand women. Still, I don't understand why so many people are so afraid of homosexuals. They aren't criminals, they are people, many of them very good people. As far as highschool goes, its all a bunch of crap. Make sure you pick your friends because you like them and not because you feel cool with them. So many people are just friends with people because they feel cooler or something. Well, those friendships won't last. After highscool, most people, even friends, never end up spending time with eachother. Luckily, my best friends and I have always stayed close, mainly because we were always there for eachother and weren't friends because we felt cooler because of it, but because we enjoyed hanging out, etc. I used to make fun of people for stupid ass reasons, I guess that was what Middle school and highschool were about or parts of it. Then I finally realized its a bunch of crap. Everyone makes fun of everyone and what the hell does that accomplish? All it does is hurt peoples feelings and get other depressed or have low self esteem. I don't know why people have low self esteem. Those people that worry what others thing about them, will always have low self esteem because they will never be happy.

Sounds to me like they'd either have to move some payroll (Lee or Valentin) or maybe it means they need to see the asking price of those two pitchers to come down. I will say if they picked up Finley, then a rotation with Buerhle, Colon, Finley, Garland, Wright would be damn good. Then Rauch would be the 6th man in the pen or getting some more seasoning in the minors, until he eventually comes up. That way they could ease him in slowly. I love hearing that the Sox are still looking at other options and trying to build more depth, cause a deep team mixed with all the talent the Sox have should be really good.

yea with people seeing that expect some new members except ur wrong saying the cubs stink cuz they are gonna have a better year than the sox. you wait and see. Are you nuts. Offensively the Sox kill the Cubs. Sox have a better bullpen and a closer, and the front line of the Sox pitching staff have both done a lot to prove they are winners. I think Prior and Wood are amazing, but neither have proven they can win a ton yet.
