Alright, someone fill this younger guy in on who he is. I was born in 83
-
Kevin made 3.9 million last year and is 27 years old. He will turn 28 on Christmas Eve. Last season he was 18-8 with a 3.24 era. Opponents hit just .230 off him and he struck out 178 batters in 217 innings. Career wise he is 75-46 with a 3.73 era. Opponents hit just .241 against him. His stuff is real good, so he doesn't put up fluke numbers. After coming onto the scene quickly he did regress, but that was probably due to the fact that his workload increased so much that his arm couldn't handle it. His worse season ever was 2000, where he had a 4.66 era and went 10-13. He's thrown 200 innings 3 times in his career. This guy would be an amazing pick up for the Sox. I'd definately give up prospects for him, whether they'd want Harris, Malone and Liefer. If they wanted Konerko, then I'd do it, but I'd expect something else back or a package deal that brought the Sox something else in return.

Sounds like Millwood is the one that the Braves will look to move. Considering his salary it may cost the sox less (In terms of who you give up) to get him. They could still use help at 2nd (Harris or Hummel and of course could use a pitcher). I still think that Furcal and Millwood for Konerko and someone is still a possibility or it at least makes sense.

I don't think that was much Ward, it was more Lofton getting injured and Manuel not calling the steals, bunts etc. Then late in the season the team started sacrificing guys much more, and doing the little things. The younger guys came up and Manuel changed his philosphy, imo. Personally I think the Sox should play more national league ball. Just cause you ocassionally sacrice guys, doesn't mean you can't homer too. This way you get the best of both worlds. I believe in contact teams, with smart base running, and players that don't just care about their stats. Late last season this team was so unselfish and it was why the offense was working.

I doubt he's a bust. He's put up huge numbers in the Japanese leagues and the play their isn't too shabby. I bet he expected to get even more money. Still, I'm amazed the Yanks do all this stuff. They buy Rondell White, he's a bum. Then they spend all this money on Mondesi, he's a bum. They must have more money typed up in their outfield then the Sox do in their entire team. :eek

Man, I feel like a real ass now. Well he should of been canned. I remember all the talk of him and how the base running coaches would get canned. Guess I just remember all the hype instead of the news on this one. Well, hopefully Ward does well.
-
Which means that the Braves will likely move a pitcher. Maddux should get a ton of money. Many expect him to be the highest paid pitcher in the history of baseball, but their is still a possibility that he will sign a long term deal with the Braves, intead of settling on a one year deal.

Anyone have a clue who the Sox are interested in hiring as our hitting coach? I would of figured they would of already named him, but I've heard nothing of the sort. I know the Sox are going through the minor leagues right now, so I'm guessing that one of the people associated with the minors will be coming up, but I wouldn't mind an outside hire.
-
Ya, theirs a bug, that I've been trying to fix with the u2u's for the last couple weeks. Hopefully it will soon be working.
-
Then he can enjoy his minor league career, cause he is nothing. He's pretty good defensively, but he makes Royce look like Tony Gwynn at the plate.
-
Well the real playoff teams aren't in the East, other then the Pacers, Sixers, Pistons and Magic. The East blows, its why we have a great shot at the playoffs. .500 and your in, guaranteed.
-
This team is better then the one that went on the road a while back. The Bulls haven't won on that road trip in like 5 yrs. Either way, now that Marshall is in the lineup the Bulls are getting off to much better starts. Plus, Fizer is a machine off the bench while Erob and Crawford are also doing very good off the bench.
-
2/1/2 games out of a playoff spot Gary.
-
The Cubs need at least another year of development. Bringing in kent to play 3rd would of screwed things up.
-
Glad to see him off the roster. THis guy needs a lot more time before he turns into a pitcher. Hopefully the Sox will let him concentrate on his pitching full time, otherwise their is no point in teaching him to pitch, because pitching is something that takes all your concentration.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing how he does next season.
-
Betemeit is damn good. I remember hoping the Sox would pick him up about a year and a half ago as our shortstop of the future. Personally I think he's ready, although he's extremely young.
-
Kreutz is going on merrit alone. He's made a lot more mistakes this year, albeit its happened because all of the youngsters around him. Booker and Url deserve it though.
-
I still don't understand their logic. Moss was one of my favorite young pitchers. This guy definately reminds me of BUerhle, but with an Aussie accent. Glavine absolutely raved about the kid and helped him a ton. He came into the majors and dominated right from the get go. He had like 5 or 6 straight games where he gave up like one or 2 runs or less. Ortiz is good, but damn, Moss is real good, imo. If we could get Moss I'd go for it. I'd also go for Ortiz or Millwood, but I wont' give up PK unless we get Furcal too.
-
If we pick up Alomar or any of the other aging backstops we still need to keep Paul as a backup plan in case Olivo stinks up the joint or one of hte backups gets hurt(Likely at least one of our catchers gets injured at some point)
-
I still love the lofton signing cause it brought us Felix Diaz. That guy has ace potential. If his arm doesn't fall off, he could be the best pitcher we have in the minors.
-
I emailed them questions, but they didn't take emails. That question was on my list.
-
I think that KW didn't want them screened and he seemed to do a good job answering the questions. You are right though, I think he was expecting a lot of your an idiot calls. Those weren't probably put on, not because they were truly screening, but because this was ask a question, not make a statement. If they wanted to ask questions about why he's such an idiot, they'd of been on. I know one guy called in and was pissed at him and I Guess they were going to drop him but Kw said no or something like that. Of course this is what I've heard, I obviously can't catch the broadcast.

Thats just the way the game is Michelle. Most prospects turn into busts. The Sox have had many home grown players turn real good, more then most teams in fact, or so I'd say. You can say Jimenez, Harris, and PK aren't ours, but we used our farm system to bring them here, which kind of makes them ours. Then you have Magglio and Caballo, then again with Olivo(He's been here a couple years now) We also have Borchard, Garland, Wright, Buerhle, Glover (Minor League Trade), Biddle, Rowand, etc. Almost all of this team has been assembled in some way shape or form thanks to the minors. Right now in AAA we don't have immediate help, but thats because most of it is at the major league level, minus Rauch and Borchard, and even Hummell. The rest of the farm is rebuilding down below and they are doing a damn good job of it. We have a ton of arms down their like Diaz, Honel, Phillips, Wing, West, Ulacia, Munoz, Ring, Almonte, etc. I can't see many teams thats use as many home grown players as us. Heck, look at the marlins, and all the strength they've had, yet they wish they could win as consistently ast he Sox have. This farm system isn't depleted, what-so-ever. Oh ya, Parque also helped us until he was injured.

Cal is a great guy. He was one of my favorites to watch with the Sox and when he was healthy he was damn good. I think he'll make a good coach whenever he finally gives up the game.
