Well, I can only agree with one thing, Clayton's attitude must not of helped the team. I didn't know the guy so I can't say if he's really an ass or not. I thought the guy would be pretty good and I never really hated Clayton, cause he played good defense. This year if Jose plays great, most everyone out their will prove me wrong, but I still don't see him as a shortstop, but I can live with him for another year.

Cubkilla, I agree they were discussing the deal, but from what someone else posted here it was Willie Harris, Jeff Liefer, and Corwin Malone or Josh Stewart. For all we know KW was going to make that deal and then the Braves offer came in. That offer blows ours out of the water. Damian Moss is an awesome pitcher. If we could get him, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
-
I don't think anyone expected him to have a BA of .100 or lower for the first two months of 2001 and 2002. Well, if you looked at his stats, you could kind of expect it. He's typically a slow starter that has one amazing half and is going to catch everything hit to him. Myette is a bum, so we didn't give up anything special.
-
Well, it looks like neither side could agree. That and the fact that the Braves offer was way better.

The only positive to the Winter Meetigns so far...

As LDF said, Diaz was acquired in the Kenny Lofton deal. Stuff wise, he's compared to Pedro Martinez or Juan Cruz. This kid has one of the best arms in the minor leagues, the question is his health. When the guy is healthy he is a legit ace in waiting, but the question is if he can stay healthy. -
Well, it seems like the Expos Gm at least respects him. I know I know, maybe thats because he thinks he'll give up too much for him. Still, maybe KW is figuring things out. Remember, just cause a deal is reported, like Ortiz for prospects, doesn't mean thats all it would of took.
-
Sorry, but I don't buy that we could of got him for fringe prospects. The Braves gave up a guy in Damian Moss, that I'd take any day of the week over Russ Ortiz. Moss is a young lefty that proved last year he could pitch at the major league level. This was a real foolish move on the Braves part. It would of been a lot like us giving up Garland for Ortiz.
-
Borchard won't be going anywhere in any deals. Kw has stated Honel and Borchard are untouchable.
-
Dj is definately the future, but I think we all know JR won't kick out a friend until he is ready to go.
-
Well, Gammons reported that the Sox were going to make a trade. Right now ESPN is saying that it is Russ Ortiz to the Sox for a package of prospects. Michelle heard that it was Konerko heading to San Fransisco and others have mentioned Konerko as well. Other names being floated are the Sox picking up J.T. Snow and Kurt Ainsworth along with Ortiz.
-
Well, their hasn't been a deal yet, so you don't really know whats going on. I'm thinking Kenny has turned the Konerko deal down and is just waiting to hear back from Sabean, while Gammons reported it a done deal, like the clown he is.
-
He's also nowhere near as bad as advertised. At least the guy has worked his ass of both at his approach at the plate and in the field. With his potential and the actual fact he seems to work hard, is one reason I wouldn't mind keeping him. If the deal was going to go, I think it already would of. KW has balked at giving up Konerko, imo, and will look elsewhere and wait and see if Sabean comes crawling back. Oh ya, officially put me as part of the theory that we aren't going to get Ortiz.
-
And if we are willing to add 4 million more in salary, wouldn't it make sense to sign Byrd and then just keep Konerko.

Is a naming rights deal in the works?

I'd say Pepsi would be a good choice. Miller would be perfect, but they got one stadium. -
Baggs, do you do it if we get Ainsworth in return as well?
-
I remember that Baggs....and it would look awesome. I always liked Betemeit and Perez, you loved Perez.
-
I'd tend to agree, but I can't possibly buy into that being true. If it is, go for it Expos, cause Vladdy and Dunn in the same outfield is ridiculously great.
-
Garland and Caballo should get you Colon. That deal is better then the So called Red Sox deal, and to me is also better then the Yankees offer. The Expos will also like the deal more if they can part with Vidro's salary as well, cause the more you can get rid of in one deal the more they like it or at least thats what the Expos gm has hinted at.
-
Well, I liked how we got Foulke, and I like Diaz, so hopefully I'll like who we get next.
-
Well, Garland is a pretty legit thing to offer up.
-
Ian, thats a real good suggestion. I forgot all about doing that. It would allow KW's guy Harris to get playing time, and would keep Manos glove out of short. Jose would be a pretty good defensive first baseman, imo.
-
I liked the Koch deal and the Jimenez deal and the Marte deal turned out great as well. Michelle, remember, supposedly the Expos Gm won't deal without giving Williams one last shot. So he can worry about this and know that he still has a shot at the other guys. Of course thats if that statement is true.
-
Or so we think, then again, I think if any Sox gm would have the guts to do it, it would be KW.
-
Well, Frank would move to first most of the time. Would the sox pick up an extra outfielder moving Lee/Thomas to first and Dh. Would they pick up someone to play first, keeping Lee in the outfield, with Thomas Dh'ing or will they just stick Liefer at 1st and then eventually go with Borchard in the outfield moving Lee to 1st/dh.
-
I still say, do this, then do the Expos deal, then sign Kent and your set.
