Enis or Salaam are just as good as Thomas. Atrain is a BUST, he just don't have the attitude the others did. I do like your Eric Crouch idea, its just I think the Rams are the only team that could talk him out of retirement. I'd use him to create mis-match problems.
-
I like the Paul Wilson idea, but I don't like the Reggie Sanders idea. If we are going to pick up another outfielder, let it be Vladdy or Hollandsworth or even someone like Vander Wall. Wilson is a quality pitcher and I'd love to pick him up, but not at the expense of Carlos Lee. I'll give them Matt Ginter and a fringe prospect.

Soxnet's working for me, but I'll have Mario check on it. Great to have ya back Kark. Its too bad you didn't miss something big like the Sox acquiring Vladdy for Todd Ritchie :metal

Sn Report: Lee's Future is Dim as Sox Eye Pitcher

I agree with you all on this. Also, heck ya I'd take Kerry Wood. To me the most important thing for the Sox to get is a guy who can throw 200 plus innings. If they are doing that and putting up a decent era, we will be in great shape. -
Well at Carpenters age it would be worth the risk if we signed him to a minor league deal. Very good points though witesoxfan.
-
From what they were saying, he's a pretty good kid off the court. I think the biggest worry is those aholes that will become friends with him and use him for his money.
-
Their goes that idea. I was wondering why the Jays would cut him. Its surprising how many teams now just waive a guy after he has arm surgery.
-
From what I'm hearing, they started today, its just most gm's got their yesterday. Anyway, its still been real quiet, despite the fact their are a good amount of players on the market.
-
My bad everyone...I swore he was a lefty, and i didn't bother checking it, just going off my memory. That would definately explain him getting the righties out at that clip. Either way I still like him. Remember Gary, Armas Jr. and Dempster are the same age. Armas is a little younger, but not much.
-
Well, I'd love for the Sox to pick up Colon or Vazquez or Maddux, but right now I think the best pick up would be Tony Armas Jr. or Ryan Dempster. Thats if the Sox don't want to add payroll. Of course, it will be very hard to get Armas Jr. unless we take on payroll, such as Tatis's contract. Still, Armas is only 24 yrs old, turns 25 at the end of April and is a hard throwing lefty. Last season he was 12-12 with a 4.44 era. The year before that he was 9-14 wioth a 4.03 era and made 34 starts two years ago and 29 this year. To me one of his finer stats is the fact that hitters hit a measly .243 against him in his career. The real fascinating stat is the fact that right handers don't hit him at all, .204 in his career, while lefties hit .285 off him. To me, if your a lefty, you can figure out a way to get lefties out, and that is something that can be taught.

He was waived after the Bulls beat the Magic and I know Krause loves the guy and I think Cartwright thinks highly of his former team-mate as well. I would love to hire him as a coach and dump Pete Myers. I don't know if anyone else thinks he's an idiot, but I do. Then again, how you come off during an interview doesn't mean much, but this guy has the stupidest halftime interviews I ever hear. Pete: What does the team need to do better? Play better defense and put the ball in the cylinder. He basically says that every game.

I love the idea of getting Ryan Dempster. I think we have a plethora of middle infield prospect and can afford to give one of them up if it gets us Dempster, whose only 25. The one thing I'm wondering is if he's hurt. He's thrown a ton of innings at such a young age and I'm wondering if its effected his pitching a bit. -
I dont' mind Myers, but I think Kreuter is much better. In all honesty, I don't care what veteran we sign, because I think they all are capable of teaching Miguel how to handle the pitchers. Anything we get out of their bat is just a plus.
-
Interesting. Carpenter has a lot of potential, especially as a swingman, imo. I'd be all over this signing. The guy is a good starter. Look at his number. The only thing I'm wondering is if he's coming off an injury. Does anyone know if thats the case, cause he only made 13 starts last season. The last of which was made in August. Anyway if you look at his career numbers, you'll see that the year before he made 34 starts with 3 cg's and 2 shutouts. He was 11-11 with a 4.09 era on a lousy team. That was his 2001 stats. In 2000 he made 32 starts and was 10-12 with a 6.26 era, but the two years before that he was really good. In 98 he was 12-7 with a 4.37 era and then in 99 he was 9-8 with a 4.38 era and 4 complete games. This guy has a very strong arm and has thrown a ton of innings. I'm thinking now would be a great time to pick him up, as long as he isn't coming off a severe injury. Very smart move by KW, if he would pick him up at like 500k.

Let me go out and say I no longer have any interest in acquiring Astachio. This guy makes way too much money. If the Sox made this so called deal, they'd be adding an extra 7 mill in salary for next season. That 7 mill would be much better spent on Paul Byrd, etc. I actually think you would be able to get Byrd for 5-6 mill and then KW could tell JR he actually saved him some money. I am really hoping this rumor is from the Mets side, that or the Mets are going to pay all of his salary. At 11 mill a year, he isn't worth Carlos Lee. -

He's gonna be a stud imo. Come on Bulls, win the lottery
-
I'm with you Cerb. He's a very competent gm, and I think if he had a big time budget, he'd be a very good gm.
-
I like Astacio. Isn't he a free agent?
-
I read it somewhere about 2 weeks ago, but I don't even remember where and didn't think of it too much.
-
Well, that could bring some truth to the speculated Ryan Dempster for Willie Harris deal, as the Reds now could use a second baseman.
-
Gary, he made you one, but it didn't turn out too hot, so he's gonna make you another one.
-
Haven't heard many rumors at all. The only rumors I've really heard are the Dodgers may deal Adrian Beltre, but I don't know who for, and that the Cubs are interested or at least talking to a bunch of people. Otherwise its been a pretty quiet day.

I will always root for us, I just want to see the youngsters develop and I'm happy. I get real pissed watching the team play like crap, but I also want a high pick and I think we should be sitting at #2.
