  1. Hey Nuke Its an honor to know your serving our country proud and hopefully you'll make it back safe as will your son CW. I may not serve in the forces, but their is no one I respect more then those who protect our freedom by serving in the military.
  2. Fargas always wanted to be a running back and Michigan didn't want to play him their. They thought he'd be an all pro corner, and the guy definately has the talent to be just that. He ended up trasnferring to USC and his dream of playing running back came true. I remember all the hype he got coming out of college. He whooped up on my highschool real good, just like Deshaun Foster did. Then he went to Michigan and I swear they told him he'd play running back. He probably figured he'd get the shot once the Train left.
  3. But Heather, if you look at the World Series teams, they don't necessarily have a couple aces, but they all have plenty of quality pitchers. In the Giants and Angels case(The two world series teams this year) they didn't really have one ace, but they had 5 guys that would contribute. All I'm asking for is a guy like Daal or byrd that can step in and handle the leadership roll of the staff and pitch against the #2 guys, that way the youngsters would have less pressure, which should help Garland and Wright to continue to develop as well as Jon Rauch, once he enters the rotation. Plus, we'll use Ritchie at the start and I know he's gonna be much better. He may not be what many originally hoped him to be, but I definately think he can win 12-13 games for the Sox and since he'll be pitching in the 5 slot, he won't exactly be facing great competition. Also, when I think back a lot of the people who really struggled one season ended up rebounding pretty well. I mean guys that went after 20 losses. Daal has really turned things around since then and even Willie Blair had a decent season or two after that. Steve Traschel also had that terrible year and he's been decent since then. Ritchie was way too good to pitch the way he did and I'd say next to Daal he is the best of that class and will do better as long as he's healthy and he's got his mechanics straightened out, and I trust Cooper to do that.
  4. Welcome Aboard WSC. Its great to have another Sox fan here to talk about the team we all love so much. Hopefully the Sox will pick up a backup outfielder(I will continue to lobby for the signing of Todd Hollandsworth) as well as the acquisition whether via trade or free agency of a veteran starting pitcher. I know we offered Daal a contract and I'd be very happy with him, although I have my fingers crossed for Byrd.
  5. I can't even figure it out. Anyone know how to translate drunk?
  6. Now Now now, they didn't shy away from Frank and his big pay. They kept paying him, but its hard to give someone a whole lot of money when he hasn't produced in the past 2 years and 3 of the previous 4. If you have an out that will save the money, then go for it. Personally I hope they renegotiate it to the piont that if Thomas performs he gets all his money, if he doesn't he gets half of it. I think all contracts should have performane clauses that are big time, if you play big time you get big time money, if you don't you don't. I wish MLB was like the NFL where you don't have guaranteed contracts. As far as Ray being moved, he was about the only one moved, but he was something like the 2nd highest paid 2nd baseman in the majors, so don't tell me they were afraid to pay them. They just figured it wasn't in their best interest to pay a 2nd baseman that much, when they have guys like Buerhle and PK that are more important to the team coming up. Plus, they had some prime time prospects down in the minors in Harris and Hummell and they weren't exactly winning with Ray their, of course it was far from his fault and I'd love to have Ray hitting 2nd and playing 2nd base with Jimenez playing short and leading off for the Sox, with Harris and Graffy backing up and Manos and his fat salary being paid by someone else like George Porgie. Man after writing this post, I'd love to dump Manos and pick up Ray for like 3 mill a year over 2 yrs, which would allow time for our prospects like Edwin Yan to develop and if Hummel or Harris proves they can go, we can always move him. Its not going to happen, but hey, I like the idea of having a veteran #2 hitter, since were going to have a very young and untested leadoff hitter. And we all know I hate the idea of having Manos at short.
  7. I thought it was like 15-25% of the votes to stay on the ballot. To me it works good. Most decent major leaguers get their names up their at least once, but only the stars stay on the ballot and eventually those that are deservent find their way in.
  8. Ya, but a million bucks is still a good amount of money, consdering that JR seems to hate spending any money, so when he saves a bit their, it could just mean he could up the offer on Daal. Plus, you can't just think one year at a time and I'm very impressed that for once KW would be making a move that would keep the team just as good in the present, but make them better over time. I'd hate going into next season looking at Marte or hoping Valentine or Almonte can become a closer. I'll stick with a proven guy like Koch and let the others develop as set up men/middle relievers.
  9. I don't think the Sox will give up any advanced prospect, but rather a lower level prospect. To me the one guy they might get would be Aaron Miles and I know Michelle loves Miles, but I wouldn't mind losing him at all. Mainly because he's older for a second base prospect, at 26, and he didn't even play in AAA last year, mainly because Hummell and Harris were there. Plus, we have Hummell, Harris, and Edwin Yan all developing as very solid 2nd base propsects which means we can easily afford to give one up. The A's could use a second baseman in case Ray goes elsewhere, plus its great insurance in case Ellis falls down. Great write up Mark. To me Stewart is a typical lefty and even though he's a starter, I'd look for him to be a reliever in the majors. He doens't have anything special when it comes to stuff, but he's just a smart pitcher with a lot of poise and control.
  10. For the Sox to acquire one of the aces you'd have to see a package of Rauch, Honel, and probably Borchard.
  11. I think Gant is expecting to get decent money this year after having some sucess with the Padres, or at least thats what I've heard on the Padres radio station. The Pads want to have him back, but they don't want to give him more then a mill. I definately want Hollandsworth. I saw that guy play many a times with the Dodgers and he's a very good hitter, and a solid defensive player that can play any outfield position as well as first base. The guy has a great attitude as well and hustles. He's one of the more under-rated players in the majors and if he's ever healthy and starting a full season he would put up shockingly good numbers.
  12. Typically PTBNL aren't top prospects and if they are a more talented prospects, they are likely injured and the reason they are named Later is because you can't really deal and injured player or most teams don't like to do so. I'm guessing the A's will possibly ask for one of the relievers we acquired from Boston in the Howry deal. Neither of them were super talented and we have a stockpile of relief talent so I'm assuming one reliever not named Ring, Sanders, Almonte or Valentine is the player to be named later.
  13. You need a certain % of the vote. I'm not really sure how the entire voting system works, it seems like Spiff has that covered. Anyway, I'm guessing Sandberg may make it, but not sure, and Santo may get voted in by the Veterans commitee.
  14. One thing about Phillips is I love the way he always hustled, plus he had the coolest batting stance.
  15. Its coming from Michelle and she knows her stuff so I'm with her 100% on this. Michelle is one of the smartest baseball fans I know, and a huge huge Sox fan. I may disagree with her on a lot of stuff, mainly because we look at things differently, ie she's much more of a realist then me because she's in the city while I get the news from farther away. Still, HSC knows her stuff so I definately believe this is possible. Hopefully it happens as long as its not a top prospect we are giving up. I can live with giving up Porzio or Ginter but no one good.
  16. Too bad Rdub is such a lazy piece of crap that he wasn't concerned about helping his man out and lay a block. If that happened we had a touchdown. Judging from the review on the fumble it didn't look like the ball ever hit Miller's hand.
  17. It doesn't look like the fumble was his fault. I can't blame Jim, this guy is one of the gutsiest players I've ever seen. The guy can't do much when he can't throw the ball past 10 yds though and thats got to be where the coaching staff steps in and says hey Jim, you've been a stud, but your not healthy, get healthy and ready for next year, where you can groom or drafted qb.
  18. They gave Frank the money when he was younger. They gave Ray Ray the money when he was younger. They now have given PK the money. They gave Maggs the money and they gave Foulke the money.

  20. Yes he's up for arbitration, but you can only have your salary increase by a certain amount each year.
  21. If I remember right, they changed the plans of reworking the draft, aka the compensation and everything and are going to work it out this offseason or the next offseason, although they do expect to allow the trading of draft picks.
  22. First off, I don't think you can really compare the careers of Mike Daar to Daryl Kile. Both of them had tragic endings and hopefully they are resting in peace, but Kile was a much more productive player in the majors. Is he a hall of famer? Nope and he isn't going to get put into the hall either. They are just waving his eligibility, but I ensure you they won't put him in.
  23. As an Irish fan I expected this, and as a Carson Palmer fan, I'm proud to see how good he's becoming. Now hopefully he can develop and turn into a stud qb for the Bears.
  24. Wasn't Big Frank hung out to dry a time or two by the great one Wavin Wally, the worst friggin 3b coach I ever saw? Now that I think about it, thats exactly what happened. Frank was hung out to dry by a mile thanks to waving Wally, not as much in thanks to his poor baserunning. Thomas is decent, not as bad as Lee.
