  1. While the Sox were making changes - FutureSox.com has also made a change, returning to its independent roots after an 18 month partnership with SoxMachine. While we appreciated the partnership we had with SoxMachine and the whole team there, I am personally excited for FutureSox's return as a true independent, with Mike Rankin, James Fox and the rest of the amazing cast and characters (Steve Hasman (aka Sleepy Harold), Ken Sawilchik, Jeff Cohen, Julie Brady, Elijah Evans, Jasper Roos, Jeff Feverer, Jason Lowenthal, Rob Young, and Dan Santaromita (aka one of the original godfater(s) of FutureSox) continuing to do what they do best - delivering the absolute BEST White Sox focused minor league content on the planet. And one ask, this whole crew puts a ton of blood, sweat and tears into producing this content, so for anyone willing and able, who loves the great content FutureSox has been providing for 20+ years now, please support their efforts through its Patreon site. Excited to see the continued growth of the franchise, brand, and the quality and insights the entire team delivers to Sox fans everywhere (no matter how sad all of us are at the current state of the franchise). Note: I also personally apologize, because as the superstitious individual I am, I can't help but notice a correlation to the White Sox performance during that timeframe
  2. There is some logic here I can buy - go get some good baseball people who got dropped by heavy analytics orgs - but you also need to hire good analytics people. Best orgs have good scouts and good analytics people and they work together well, but you got to balance both. JR just doesn’t buy it and I don’t get why cause hiring good analytics people and developing from within is way cheaper than being big spenders on fa market.
  3. This is just crazy talk. GM job is a once in a lifetime opportunity. He doesn’t have the resume to deserve the job but that doesn’t mean you don’t interview and try in this scenario. I presume in his mind he had the swagger to say - I can do this and I would hope if he has that swagger he also has big ideas. Whether they are good ideas or he can actually take an idea and make it a reality - whole nother story. I have had good bosses and bad bosses - just cause I worked for some bad bosses, doesn’t mean I am not very good at what I do and I’ll also say I have learned just as much in my career from shitty bosses as good ones, so maybe Getz has seen how bad it is here and has connections and tied and immediately starts making good changes. Note: in zero way am I defending the hire - I would have done spend 2-3 weeks interviewing and getting insights. Maybe Getz is the best after that but spend 2 weeks to gain viewpoints and than hire Getz if that is what you do.
  4. Wait - Jerry mentioned hostetler by name and said that?
  5. The hard part of those extensions - giving young players massive amounts of guaranteed money, while it can be smart from a $/cents perspective, it also opens up to risk in terms of how hard certain individuals will work vs. not. In some cases - we went so early that the carrot really was never even out there.
  6. I'll go back to - at this point, I know Hanh and Kenny were absolutely not going to do it. They clearly didn't care enough about farm system and other things. Whether that is also all JR, it might be, JR did at least allow for decent size payrolls last few years, even if he doesn't allow for big long term contracts. With Getz - the farm system isn't very good, but he brought some unique ideas out there in terms of the whole COVID thing and camp Birmingham or whatever it is. I don't know how much cart Blanche he was allowed vs. not and the poor system is a system of many things, not just Chris Getz. While his resume isn't there - he could actually be really bright and putting him in this position, maybe he actually is really bright and innovative and can take this thing to a much better place. Lack of resume doesn't imply lack of skill - it does obviously increase risk, etc. Reality is - as I've looked inside myself, I don't' have it in me to change franchises, even though I have very little faith in this franchise. % of faith didn't move in terms of owner - given how inward this whole search was, but I'll give Getz the benefit of the doubt (not that he deserves it) and hold out hope that somehow he'll be better than the last. Preferably much much better.
  7. Bright side is - the quote at least said, but I like him and he's got some interesting ideas, re: Getz.
  8. Really should have listened to me and moved Cease at the deadline when he had high value. At this point I'm getting quite concerned that there is something more to this and next thing you know we see a DL stint.
  9. Bochy was on my short list. At this point, Scioscia is probably best possible guy they could get. Not modern, but well respected and would command the clubhouse. Knows the game extremely well and still plenty young. It also seems some of these older managers have actually done really well - Baker, Bochy, Showwalter (until this year), Francona.
  10. Ignoring his off the field stuff - on the field he has actually been a good pick up and has been throwing the ball very well. I could absolutely see a contender picking him up. Especially one who was under the luxury tax. What is 5M if it gets you a pitcher who has put up 3 War so far this year without giving up anything but some cash.
  11. I would have played Fields more in preseason. He has a lot to learn. With that said - it is preseason, but I saw Fields hold the ball too long.
  12. I like that move by Cowboys. I would have been interested in Lance too. He’s athletic enough and yes he was hurt but get him into a low pressure situation and see what happens in a year.
  13. This - The sox problem isn't that we have bad catchers, everyone has bad catchers. The Sox problem is we have given a mammoth amount of at bats and penciled guys into spots who are not good and given them LOTS and LOTS of at bats. In particular - the amount of AB's we have given and how they designed the lineup with Sheets/2B is horrendous. Gavin Sheets 2B We also have had guys we thought would be good who got a lot of at bats and/or hurt - doesn't matter who have not been good: Tim Anderson Yoan Moncada Eloy Jimenez (his bat doesn't make up for his defense at this point) Andrew Vaughn When you add that up - that is 6 spots that are below average and I'm leaving out Benitendi cause he's been about what you would have expected. Maybe people wanted more power/extra base hits - if he had that - he's probably on track for a 2-2.5 WAR type of season vs. a 1+ season. Maybe I'm being harsh on Vaughn, he's okay - but he certainly isn't above average.
  14. I would be fine with Rizzo but why would he want to come here. Do Nats want to change course? Cause if Nats want him why would he come to Sox?
  15. Yeah - I will do it. You all will hate me but I’ll just ban everyone on soxtalk who rips my moves haha
  16. Maybe Jerry has learned something - don’t get fans excited, instead manage down expectations with tweets and leaks like this, so when you actually make a legit move everyone will be pumped up vs disappointed.
  17. This - if he thought one of them was ready - I think Jerry would have only punted HAhn, not both.
  18. This is where I am - I am presuming they have to leak this because you need to ensure there is some calm post changes and these people do need to run the day to day until the new sheriff shows up and starts to make changes. So I’m not going to worry about any of these so and so is safe. With that said - this is White Sox so I have about 5 percent hesitation that they do go to Getz. With that said - if it was Getz I think they would have kept Kenny and punted HAhn and than announced some transition plan for Kenny. I expect outside hire - whether they are good, heck if I know, but shock me Jerry and write a blank check to Epstein.
