More "Hahnspeak" on Robert/Madrigal/Collins coming up
GreenSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What about switching out Skole for Mercedes? Skole has done absolutely nothing on the major league team. Or Santiago for anyone? The pennant race in Charlotte? Good lord. -
I posted at both places for a long time - only suspended at WSI once (remarkable, really). At some point, I think in the 2007-2010 period, some guys, whom I figured were WSI ex-pats, started a new site. I think it was Soxinthecity.net or something like that. It was good site, but fizzled out after a year or 2.

Cordell, Engel, whomever....they are all better than and should be on this team before the Rickys' cleanup hitter, Jon Jay.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
GreenSox replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well of course JR did. Join the lifetime contract ranks with Hahn, KW, Cooper and apparently Ricky Renteria. And if Hahn has anything to say about it, Hostetler and Haber too. And as much as Stone is playing house-horse these days, he's probably close too. -
Renteria goes on pregame anti-analytics rant

Abreu “as valuable as anything” to Sox: Merkin
GreenSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unfortunately he went into a funk in a meaningful month of baseball this year. His numbers aren’t great. Yeah they’re better than whoever they’ll probably call up. But this is a team with numerous organizational minor leaguers not only on the 25 but starting every day. It’s hard to imagine they are this thin at this point. Winning is not happening next year -

Sure leadership is important. But leadership is organic...you don't force it. If Abreu's time to leave has come, so be it...you don't keep him (or anyone) around for leadership. Someone will take his place. I hear 3rd parties (media, front office) say he's a great leader, but the players? -
Does Leury Garcia deserve a ‘20 starting spot?
GreenSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Peak value, such as it is, was in July. They wouldn't get much for him in December. Does he deserve RF? No, of course not. Would I prefer him to signing Ozuna for multiple years - yes; or Dickerson - double yes. -
Dunn, Laroche and Frazier didn't fail because they were NL hitters. Laroche was 35 and really didn't want to play anymore; Dunn declined for some reason; and Frazier never was a great hitter to begin with - he popped homers out of the Cincy bandbox and people thought that would translate seamlessly to the Cell. Plus the Sox don't really bring out the best in the low BA, high walk, high K profile hitters: they seem to walk less, K more as the BA craters once they hit the southside. Harper is a completely different class of hitter.

The Sox have done well trading for other teams' prospects. The Sox have done well in the international market, when they've tried. The Sox have not done well evaluating U.S. amateur talent. The Sox have seen significant leakage in evaluating their own prospects. The Sox have been terrible in evaluating major league veterans.
-
Yes his big 3 dispersal trades were good; some very good. But he had a lot to trade, including an elite pitcher. All under LT contracts. His work otherwise has been largely terrible.

Another former Astros top prospect for Hahn to acquire
GreenSox replied to Moan4Yoan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not particularly well, but not quite awful either; they've picked up worse. Hasn't pitched since June. -
Option the prospect; keep the organizational minor leaguers.
-
Such as 3 of the 4 you mentioned above. That's the problem. And the Samardzija trade was just poorly intended and executed.
-
Sure he knows they need a starter. Who doesn't? His ongoing problem is the inability to evaluate players; and then acquiring them on terms that harm, rather than help, the team and organization.

The rumors were (partially) true: Collins to AAA
GreenSox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
yep Another way to look at it. Marcus Semien, alone has a higher career WAR (17.5) than all of Hahn's draft picks combined. Man if you add Tatis....yikes. But the raw number of 14.9/17.3 WAR from all of those drafts is atrocious on its own. The positive WAR players are Anderson, Rodon, Bummer, Engle (.3) and Fry (.1). -
The rumors were (partially) true: Collins to AAA
GreenSox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Probably true. We see them repeating failed methods in other areas of the org. For those counting, cumulative WAR of all players drafted by Rick Hahn since he took over in 2013: 14.9. If you exclude the players with negative WAR it is 17.3. -
Looks like he Sox have several pitchers in A ball who look decent and haven't flamed out yet. Hope they develop.

GreenSox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Collins had a swing-hitch. Why in the world this organization, with its years-long struggles developing players, continually drafted hitters and pitchers with obvious hitches that needed to be fixed, is beyond me. -
He is excellent. However, Marcus Semien was not drafted when Rick Hahn was GM. Rick Hahn did trade him away, along with 3 other prospects, 2 of whom are contributors to the Oakland As, for 1 year of Jeff Samardzija, whom Hahn turned in to Zach Burdi.

SoxTalk fan pulse: How far away are the Sox from competing?
GreenSox replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I didn't say the teams are the same...the results will be the same. The comparison is simply that they are going for it before they are ready. Actually you made a better case to go for it in 2015 than exists in 2020. And you seem to have forgotten the pitching which is the entire reason they can't go for it (with apologies to those who think RF is the greatest weakness on this team). Look at last night's game. The Sox used 3 pitchers, none of whom should be anywhere near a major league team, much less a contender: Santiago, Covey, Ruiz (he's kind of a prospect, so maybe at some point). Add Osich and Detwiler and probably Cordero (although he has some skills) and that is 6 pitchers short. And the other pitchers, while good, aren't great. How can you replace 6 pitchers plus depth in one year...especially when the Sox have no one in the minors who are anywhere ready (except for Kopech and maybe Dunning, both of whom are injured). -
Not traditional college. But fine, 1 in 7 years. Top-shelf work.

GreenSox replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
2021 at the earliest. Sure Hahn can "go for it" next year and we'll be back to 2015. -
Top 5 pick would mean way too much serial losing at this point. If this FO can't make-do with #10 or so, then I don't know what to say (actually I do, but I've said it before).
