If the Astros were interested in Abreu, that would a be a good break for us. Houston has so many prospects and so many that are blocked that they are usually willing to trade some pretty good ones.

Sell high for a change, please.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
GreenSox replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If it's legitimate interest, they probably should pull the trigger. Big IF though. But they can replace Colome. And what we're seeing out of Colome might not have much more staying power anyway. It's not about a perpetual rebuild. It's about making a real contender, instead of some faux 78 win team. -
I agree with the first sentence.
-
He's one of those guys who ideally would be moved, but his value is probably higher to the Sox than other teams are willing to pay. In pure throw-away seasons, he would be moved anyway. But this year he'll probably stay.
-
I think Lopez is ultimately a reliever....and probably a pretty good reliever.
-
Plenty have been...if you use it and not trade it.

Fulmer needs to up his tempo. Good lord he's slow.
-
yes, but you can fill that in later. You need the foundation first.

As prep athletes are so hard to sign after the first round, yet ideally picked after the first round (most have "lottery ticket" traits, undeveloped, not ideal for an early pick), and if one doesn't think there's a sure fire all star in the draft, the Orioles' strategy is probably best...IF they can pull it off with the prep players picked with later selections. You really have to know what you're doing to execute that strategy. The Sox kind of did that when they reached for Burger...but they used the savings, inexplicably, on a college player who had little leverage.

You are measuring the start of Houston's rebuild from the point they started losing. Same with the Cubs. Yet, you measure the Sox rebuild from I assume the end of the 2016 season (although it should be measured from July 2016). I'm just asking for some consistency. Houston hired Lunow in December 2011; they rebuilt in 2012, 2013, 2014 and made the playoffs in 2015 The Cubs hired Theo sometime before the 2012 season. That's when they acquired Rizzo It was during 2012 when they started trading away their guys like Dempster and Garza. They lost in 2012, 2013 and 2014. They made the playoffs in 2015. Both of those were 3 year rebuilds. They were not 5-6 year rebuilds. If held to those standards, the Sox would make the playoffs in 2020. And if they were held to the standards of the Brewers, As or Rays rebuilds.....

He's been in the organization for 15 of the last 19 years. And Hahn, KW and JR still surround him. Not exactly a fresh group with new ideas. Nevertheless, he's had 3 drafts and this is his fourth. He's had good draft positions (10, 11, 4 and 3). Shouldn't the Sox thus be expected to stay in the top 10 farms for the foreseeable future, even given the matriculation of the bounty from the Q/Sale/Eaton trades? And if the Sox don't, does that suggest a problem?
-
I think they suspend it if it's through the 5th and tied.. Bunch of other circumstances too (if the visiting team took the lead in the inning it was suspended and it is the 6th inning or later).
-
Let's see: 13, 14, 15. 16, 17, 18 = 6 years. 19 = 7th year. I didn't even need an abacus. The Astros lost for several years prior to the official rebuild, as did the Cubs, as did the Sox. Try some consistency.

The question is when will the Sox be in a position to fight the Twins for the Central?
-
By that calendar, this is year 7 of the Sox rebuild.
-
Is he? The starting pitchers, other than Giolito, are getting their brains beat in. Last in the majors in starters ERA and WHIP. His framing grades poorly. I don't know whether he is or isn't. But I don't think Cooper knows either.
-
If McCann is a good defensive catcher than sign him by all means. But his he? He's always low in framing. Cooper apparently likes him, but lately Cooper's judgment stinks. The Twins have also gotten a lot of mileage out of Free Agents...the type of Free Agents in the same cost range that the White Sox fish in. The Sox veterans free agents have been big negatives. I guess the Twins use analytics and actually scout their guys.
-
If his defense, framing and working with pitchers are sound, then I'd extend him. Those things should last. Hitting would be lagniappe. If Collins breaks out, then they still have a really good backup, which they will need.

Dallas Keuchel signs one year deal with Braves
GreenSox replied to SweatyFreddy's topic in The Diamond Club
It's been dry lately but there were a bunch in 2010 and 2009. The overall hit rate in the draft is not good, but there are hits and you have to give yourself enough arrows. A lot of great players came after the first round. -

I'd say it's 10%. He's signing a 4 month deal. 4 months is of marginal real help. -

Signing Keuchel and giving up a pick would be yet another comedy act. If they want him, wait a couple of weeks, and then outbid everyone else. -
Right - 2 relievers (one with multi-years of control; the 2nd with the same control as Robertson) plus a 3B yielded that. Colome won't come close - one problem is that he doesn't have dominating stuff.
-
He has never been particularly good in the minors, so it's not that much of a surprise that he's now bad. He's probably a LOOGY at best which is close to 0 value; heck the Sox had 3 of them last season they picked up basically for free.

And whether spending $200 million would turn the Sox into a winner is another story. Actually it's a fable. What's the core right now - 4 players? it would be another 2015-16 dog and pony show that's pushing for .500. That said, the Sox could have helped themselves by spending their $9 million here, $8 million there more wisely...instead, Hahn took the lazy way out.
