That's good because a 3 way would mean that the Sox for sure would be giving up prospects. They probably would anyway, despite have the leverage advantage, but if the Marlins are involved, they definitely would. If they take Hill, they should get Pederson and Hill for basically nothing; but that's not what this FO does.
-
That's just remarkable. This is the kind of stuff that really explains the current situation. Lack of investment (money/time/coaching talent) in the fundamentals.
-
This is a more reassuring list. 4 in the top 30 is pretty nice. Sox just lack nuance...first it's tools, then it's college bats. As for Burdi, he was picked for the 2016 pen - I would assume the Sox would have been nowhere near him but for living in la la land in June, 2016.
-
That's not great after all this. I hope the reality is better.

Sox offered Grandal multi-year deal (The Athletic)
GreenSox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's got a point...at some point it's results, not the good ole college try, that matter. Of course it would be nice to know what the Sox offer was. -
That was the perception, but the WHIPs and K rates were basically identical and Mussina played only 2 more years (but a lot more innings).
-
I'm surprised Halladay is getting that high vote %; he really wasn't better than Mussina and Mussina struggled to get in. Glad to see those 4 make it.
-
Now he's an older vet who has maintained a consistently good OBP (in contrast to.....). Much better buy at $6 million.
-
Jay was OBP .330, .678 OPS last year. But he did have one season in his last 4 with an OBP of an acceptable .340 or more and he's only 33 so I'm sure he'll improve. He should definitely get the at bats on this rebuilding team.
-
They had to fix the delivery (why draft a player whose delivery you have to fix is another question). Stopping work on the delivery was/is the mistake. When Hahn trades some secondary vet or a salary dump for a "nothing" prospect and that prospect turns out to be top 5, then he can get a break on Tatis. People can rightfully fear any prospect with upside that he trades will end up biting them...especially when he trades them for players not in the Sox competitive window.
-
No kidding. But that's about what the Sox should pay for a player not in the window of contention. Trading prospects, trading young pitching for a player who won't help the Sox contend? Good lord, lessons never learned.
-
sox have plenty of those...no need for 3 teams. They can have any 2 except for Fry and Hamilton.
-
That would make sense for the Sox. Or a package of Cordell and Minaya....looking for something like the Swisher #2 trade.
-
Palka has played in the majors for one year. Sure there are gaps in his game, but there was also some promise. There is no way that Jay would push aside Palka (or really anyone), especially on a rebuilding team. Neither would Alonso. I hope we sign Machado - that's Jay's (and Alonso's) value. Aren't there any FOM's that pitch?
-
May not, but Justin Turner and Chris Taylor have AAAA pedigree....they seem to have gotten "lucky' with a lot of late bloomers.
-
If they must do this, they need to trade the type of players that they acquired in their secondary trades: guys close to Rule 5 (including those not close to the majors), older prospects whose progress is slowing, etc. Even some relievers off of the 40 man. Cordell and Madeiros would make sense. The "outrage" is a team that is rebuilding, off of 62 wins, trading for a 2 year player. You don't just try to avoid trading a 19 year old with upside in these circumstances...you just don't do it.
-
Agree, especially with the last sentence. Maybe he has a high market price....it's just not a price that the Sox should pay in the position they are in.

FS: Luis Basabe, Sooner rather than Later
GreenSox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
He's going to be good...he'll figure out something with those Ks (which I assume include a lot of looking Ks). He'll either learn to foul them off (great) or expand a bit with 2 strikes without losing his discipline. Sox have several athletic outfielders who should be ready in the next 2 years. -
If the Yankees et al truly aren't interested in him, that's a big break for the Sox, which hopefully they will take advantage of.
-
Get the team ready to win, and trading prospects for some 2 year players might make some sense. Successful rebuilders didn't make those kind of moves. Meanwhile, continue to pine for the days of Frazier and those 76 wins.
-
Great idea for a team off of 62 wins: trade prospects for 2 year players. Kind of makes sense for a team that traded for rents off of 73 wins.
-
The inference is that the Sox didn't analytics before then. Good lord. What's the status of analytics in the dugout?
-
I buy it. I don't know which report is correct, but pretty much all of them have the offers as far more modest than expected 6 weeks ago. Makes sense for teams to dive in if he's that affordable. It shouldn't matter; as per a comment above, the Sox should be able to win a bidding war anyway should one arise.

Neither Burdi nor Burger were the BPA. Burdi was drafted precisely to rush into the 2016 bullpen.
-
I believe that was an unfortunate trade.
