  1. Were these pitchers prospects? I had never heard of them. Top of the 9th was silly as well- 2nd and 3rd no outs and no runs. But I assume non-roster guys were participating.
  2. If he's good at 3rd, it makes sense. Because we have zero in the pipeline at 3rd.
  3. A rebuilding team needs young players to call up.
  4. Beyond the magic wall are 2 Padres, 2 Royals, a cub, several others, and no Sox.
  5. I hope you're right....and that if they end up expending Yolmer they finally get something, at least some ceiling, for one of these guys. Dopico looked good. Relief pitchers can come from anywhere.
  6. There is no objective reason why this rebuild should take as long as the Astros/Cubs, much less longer. Nothing but excuses.
  7. They did well with the extensions, but never this early. And their talent evaluation hasn't exactly been sharp the last few years. But given that we're stuck with this front office in perpetuity, I guess why not.
  8. We don't have a consensus solution at any position except 1B and that's for this year only with Abreu...is there another player on this roster who you can comfortably say is above average? That's not to say several won't become that, but right now, they aren't.
  9. Yes, we'll do better than 62 wins for the foreseeable future. So we've hit bottom in the single season sense. Have we hit bottom in the consecutive losing season sense? Don't see a light at the end of that tunnel. But some better pitching would help.
  10. Fine. A lot can happen 2.5 years. They consistently mis-evaluate these veterans...I wonder how much work on the analytics and film they do prior to acquisition.
  11. Exactly.....4 years ago. Never a K guy either.
  12. Guyer is going to make this team? He's worse than Jay My god.....
  13. This is rebuild a la Hahn. "Cheapness" really isn't the major issue.
  14. Not weird for them. Tired old stiffs is how Hahn tried to build a team from 2014-16. The plan was to sign Machado for below market and improve the bullpen. So they signed 2 stiffs to help lure Machado and traded a catcher that they didn't like (but who could hit) for an average closer that Seattle dangled.
  15. Man Giolito can leave some pitches right in the wheelhouse.
  16. Lord I hope not. Jon Jay, leadoff. Yikes!
  17. Guerrero is an org. guy at this point, but there are a lot of org. guys that haven't officially been orged yet. I see that Chris Johnson is with the team. I recall the Indians giving him the Keppinger treatment, but he didn't quit like Keppinger did.
  18. Why not? Covey's first time success through a lineup also suggests that he might be a good late inning guy.
  19. Split-squad day. Love it! Wish they'd play more of these - lot of players to evaluate.
  20. .362 OBP (who on the Sox matches that), 9 homers in 1/2 a season of at bats, .794 OPS all in his 3rd major league season. He was the 2nd to best hitter on this team last year, which is one place his bat plays just fine. Colome, not controlled in the Sox competitive window, is a homogeneous average closer...flippable, based on history, for Madeiros or Cordell....
  21. Adell was a "toolsy" prospect and the Sox were all in on college players by that time. Big gap between Burger and Adell re type of prospect. I doubt they would have drafted him.
