  1. sox have plenty of those...no need for 3 teams. They can have any 2 except for Fry and Hamilton.
  2. That would make sense for the Sox. Or a package of Cordell and Minaya....looking for something like the Swisher #2 trade.
  3. Palka has played in the majors for one year. Sure there are gaps in his game, but there was also some promise. There is no way that Jay would push aside Palka (or really anyone), especially on a rebuilding team. Neither would Alonso. I hope we sign Machado - that's Jay's (and Alonso's) value. Aren't there any FOM's that pitch?
  4. May not, but Justin Turner and Chris Taylor have AAAA pedigree....they seem to have gotten "lucky' with a lot of late bloomers.
  5. If they must do this, they need to trade the type of players that they acquired in their secondary trades: guys close to Rule 5 (including those not close to the majors), older prospects whose progress is slowing, etc. Even some relievers off of the 40 man. Cordell and Madeiros would make sense. The "outrage" is a team that is rebuilding, off of 62 wins, trading for a 2 year player. You don't just try to avoid trading a 19 year old with upside in these circumstances...you just don't do it.
  6. Agree, especially with the last sentence. Maybe he has a high market price....it's just not a price that the Sox should pay in the position they are in.
  7. He's going to be good...he'll figure out something with those Ks (which I assume include a lot of looking Ks). He'll either learn to foul them off (great) or expand a bit with 2 strikes without losing his discipline. Sox have several athletic outfielders who should be ready in the next 2 years.
  8. If the Yankees et al truly aren't interested in him, that's a big break for the Sox, which hopefully they will take advantage of.
  9. Get the team ready to win, and trading prospects for some 2 year players might make some sense. Successful rebuilders didn't make those kind of moves. Meanwhile, continue to pine for the days of Frazier and those 76 wins.
  10. Great idea for a team off of 62 wins: trade prospects for 2 year players. Kind of makes sense for a team that traded for rents off of 73 wins.
  11. The inference is that the Sox didn't analytics before then. Good lord. What's the status of analytics in the dugout?
  12. I buy it. I don't know which report is correct, but pretty much all of them have the offers as far more modest than expected 6 weeks ago. Makes sense for teams to dive in if he's that affordable. It shouldn't matter; as per a comment above, the Sox should be able to win a bidding war anyway should one arise.
  13. Neither Burdi nor Burger were the BPA. Burdi was drafted precisely to rush into the 2016 bullpen.
  14. Seems like a reasonable price to me; but I doubt the Sox could have gotten him for that price.
  15. Hopefully the rebuild continues; Machado is a key element - Alonso and Jay are just Machado attractors ...at least I hope.
  16. Although I was a child at the time, I remember that streak well. I also remember that horrible call in Boston (Agee was safe) in August of 1967 on NBC National that started the collapse. That was quite the post by xSouth detailing the specific events that haave frustrated Sox fans over the last 50 years.
  17. I don't know about that if he views the long term offers as modest. (of course, I don't know what the Sox offer actually is; but if it is 7/$210, I would view that as modest). And I am of the belief that the Sox need to beat the competition by 20% or so to secure his services. Actually if he doesn't sign with the Sox, I hope he takes a short term deal. We don't really need him this year, and the Sox major league club may be more presentable a year from now and thus not require a 20% bonus or so many FOMs.
  18. And what is that point. The Sox can stick with its 7/210 offer (or whatever it is), wait there until someone tops it, Manny remains dissatisfied and won't sign, then, whoosh, a contender offers him 1/$40 or 2/$75. What's the Sox next move?
  19. But they don't have the pitching; and they are light on O unless Anderson and Moncada improve; which they may or may not. The Sox have at least 3 top CF prospects...just not the position to go for a FA. Jay and Alonso just aren't top shelf talents...by a long shot. Sox need another year to sort things out.
  20. Well, the same source (Nightengale) who says the Sox are "expected" to sign him also said 3 days ago that the Sox offered him a contract of "about $200 million" Maybe they increased, will increase.....
  21. It would be nice to know what the offer is. If it's 7/low 200s (which is what I believe the more respected sources have said), the Sox may lead, but I doubt he'd sign for that anytime soon.
  22. Well, that would be something new and different.....
  23. Don't laugh too hard - the Sox may have to put Machado at SS.
