  1. This vividly shows how far the “new and improved” White Sox still have to go. What we confidently have going forward is a SS, 3B and 2 Catchers. On the pitching side, several ¾ starters. 1st Base is TBD. Or, put another way, we still need 2 top-of-rotation starters, 4 front-line relievers (we have none on the 26-man, really), a 2B, 3 Outfielders, and possibly a 1st baseman. And, of course, a bench. I’m optimistic that some of the gaps can be filled with guys already in the minors (pitching, 2B perhaps). I think we’ll spend $ when it makes sense to do so (it made no sense to spend in 24 or 25). I’m still leery of the quality of the drafting and when will we get back into the international game?
  2. On only 1 hit.... and 2 BB and 2 HBPs. The math works!
  3. No we don't. But we should move him if there is a "match" - but fodder for Charlotte is not a match
  4. For a real prospect, yes trade. For a Rule 5 guy, the likely offer, keep him.
  5. On one of those Athletic podcasts, ole Eno was trying to make that comparison, but Jed Lowrie, pro infielder turned analyst, was having none of it.
  6. That’s how I see it as well. Sometimes it may be better to just let players alone and be themselves. Robert has a real upside that could reveal itself quickly; if multiple teams are interested, one might pay more than his value. It happens all the time for pitching in July. Regardless, no interest in trading him or anyone else for Rule-5 eligible prospects (there are exceptions, but rare). Giveaways set a bad precedent and the Sox have enough Rule 5 guys. They could use some A ball or DSL lottery tickets, however.
  7. Vasil continues to impress. I think the plan is rotation for next year, although I wonder if the lack of slider or cutter will eventually limit him. Vasil, Smith, Martin, Burke, Cannon would make a strong 3-5 behind 2 aces. There's depth plus each of those guys is at least a 4. I think we're going to need that because getting top 5 or 10 offense is going to be a long trudge. Only a few teams are willing to trade it away; and I'm not sure that the Sox have the skills to identify, draft and develop sufficient talent themselves without trades. I still think that it's time for a more aggressive churn of the 26 man. Palacios is a fine, gregarious fellow, but I think we've seen enough of his game. Rojas, et al.
  8. I just wonder how they really measure those things. There’s no combine where they could formally measure. The SEC has more top-level pitching than the other leagues, but it has a lot of terrible pitching as well. A league like Cape Cod, with more concentrated talent, might provide the best insight.
  9. The Sox need to make them pay for moving Skubal back to face the Cubs. Mocking us. We beat their bullpen team, but that’s not enough. 2 more Ws.
  10. Also Sheets and Carlos Rodon; it's hit or miss though. The best part will be to move these guys for more lasting help…although I suppose the could hold tauchman to play CF for a year and build some real value versus the “Pham value” he probably has now.
  11. Or trade down (go underslot); I'm not sure they can do that effectively though. The trouble with the SS is that the good hitters seem to hit well "for a shortstop." So yea, they can play anywhere but they don't have the corner hit-tool to bring with them. I'm just going by the write-ups and descriptions; perhaps some of these guys really can hit. So Jo Jo can really hit; but he won't end up at SS. So it's unclear whether he can really hit for a SS or if he can really hit for, say, a RF.
  12. I read that as "we'll take Robert's salary off of your hands only if you throw in Sosa." Yikes!
  13. I hope Vargas can get back on track because we seem to be capped at 2 runs without him. Robert pulling a Lazarus would help too.
  14. Pierce seems like someone who should be drafted around #20; so he's a reach unless they can go c. $2 mill underslot, which l seriously doubt they can pull off. h this draft seems bereft of hit-tool, so I can see why Irish would rise. If the Sox are going to go a little under slot, go with Jace: a risk with real upside.
  15. I wanted them to pick Jac (I was a late convert), but my number 1 wish was to not pick Smith. I was surprised when Smith was picked. Hope it all works out,
  16. Would seem so for #10 money. But he would fit if you pay #20 money, which will leave room to go overslot in several rounds, without punting.
  17. That moves the equivalent of: R2: pick 10 to pick 11. -1 R2: Pick 44 to 31. +13 R3. Pick 76 to pick 49. +27 Cost: $1,461M > Cap. That would require some major punting: rounds 6-10 (and that would still be a tad short). On the other hand, if you go $4.5M at pick 10, you basically move down to around 18 with the same round 2 and 3 benefits. No punting required. And in this draft, 10-25 or so (or maybe even wider) seem somewhat fungible. And of course either way, you have to count on the #31 or better player being available at 44 and the number 49 or better player being available at 76.
  18. He probably could be in Chicago (along with most of Birmingham's pen). But, then again, what's the rush? And the Chicago pen, such as it is, is for sale.
  19. TLR won 93 and was around .500 in 2022 when he stepped away. Grifol earned his own era.
  20. So I guess I would ask whether Jo Jo is athletic enough for CF; or whether he hits well enough for a corner position to draft at #10. Overall, the trade-down (underslot) option looks appealing. Witherspoon's brother looks interesting for later rounds.
  21. this is a sign-to-peddle situation. Guy throws 97. Good move. Same with Houser -starter who hits 95 (mea culpa on him). 2 excellent moves.
  22. The team is clearly improving and he’s brought more outside talent into front office in a 18 months than his predecessor did in a decade. And the idea that he’s not trying is just silly. From Rule 5 to the July trading period, he’s a pack-mule compared to his predecessor. Things are looking up and the Sox are fun to watch.
  23. Law does some scouting himself, but mostly he gathers and accumulates information and opinions from sources throughout the league; Getz was his Sox source in the Hahn years. My main wish for 2024 draft was to not draft a pitcher, especially Smith, who looked like a reliever to me (didn’t pitch deep into games in college, among other reasons). I hope I’m wrong about Smith and certainly could be. But the walks are troubling.
  24. They are unlikely to get anything for Perez, but they should get something for Houser. Good teams couldn’t take a chance on him until they knew that he’d be effective. Now they know, so now they pay. Stop trading on other teams’ terms. No more rule-V “prospects” …the other team’s 40-man is not our problem.
  25. I'd like to see our good pitching prospects bypass Charlotte.
