  1. It is, but I was just pointing out that they could still sign a bunch of players even with the limitations. They need to keep the lower levels stocked.
  2. They can in 300K or lower increments. Padres signed 9 international players at 300K bonuses each.
  3. They really need to move Avilan and Cedeno now....although they'd probably move them for more rule 5 guys and they could also just leave them unprotected anyway. But they will expose some interesting players. The unprotected Jake Peter has yielded 2 players.
  4. His numbers as a reliever are no better than as a starter. Send him down to A ball and start over with him. Un teach him that intra-windup glove-pump he picked up somewhere that he didn't have at Vanderbilt. Find a coach who worked with Clevenger - he too has a rushed delivery with a lot of moving parts.
  5. They can't add free agents next year because free agents will merely make them watchable and that doesn't justify the cost. The rebuild is at least 1 year behind schedule...and if the first wave are mostly busts, and not just slow developers, then it's likely 3 years behind schedule. And that's due to the failure of Fulmer, Giolito and Lopez....the horrendous starting pitching is why the team is unwatchable and non-competitive most nights. While the Sox will need Moncada (and a couple of others) to be great for the team to be great, he's not terrible and he's not the reason the team is terrible - that's the pitching.
  6. Most of us knew deep down that Q just wasn't the same last year; getting a great deal for him, was the Sox big break in this rebuild.
  7. Just a few lefties on the list, and other than Conley, none is any better than Avilan or Cedeno.
  8. I have no complaints. But what you described, which is what I thought they were doing, is not what was described as the new philosophy at the top of this thread.
  9. I agree, but this is a reevaluation of philosophy, not scouting. And that's probably a good thing too.
  10. Something I do not understand: a new concern with Ks AFTER they make the single biggest move in the rebuild (trading Chris Sale) and 2 drafts after they hire a new scouting director.
  11. And "unathletic" is against the new trend as much, if not more, than high Ks are. (although I hope the CF they drafted, who is a lot more interesting than the first 2 picks, is reasonably athletic). I've never been able understand what this FO is trying to do and that probably won't change.
  12. Royals aren't messing around...Phillips is going straight to NY today. The Sox don't even have a full first wave in yet (and what part of the wave is here hasn't done much), so it's hard to see what the second wave is like. And Collins is someone they drafted...if they wanted low K they could have drafted low K.
  13. I'm okay with pitching Davidson, but since this wasn't out of necessity (there were pitchers available) the Blue Jays should put full effort against him and not take it easy on him.
  14. If they can't trade a LOOGY, so be it. They can bring both back next year and there needs to be someone who can pitch and neither will bring much in the way of prospects. But they need to trade Avi and/or Abreu
  15. What is attendance supposed to do with 6 losing seasons in a row, the last 2 of which have been non-competitive, and an organization in which there is zero accountability for outcomes. The lack of accountability is a big depressant because it gives the appearance that that the organization doesn't prioritize winning.
  16. That's supposed to be the whole point of suffering through these 30 below .500 seasons. Clear out the dugout in the offseason, Hahn.
  17. If all he can throw is 2 pitches, how did he check all the boxes?
  18. Anyone know the deal with Jake Elliot - he's in his 2nd full year at Kanny, both with stellar statistical results, but he hasn't been moved up.
  19. Did he fire Scheuler? If not, it's 3 decades. And they won't even put a serious manager on the field to help them with the rebuild - someone who knows the game and knows talent.
  20. Okay, but where is the real hitting core: it's basically Jimenez, Moncada and Anderson. And then another player or 2 would join the party, maybe even extend Abreu. Well that core isn't progressing. Every rebuild will have a few setbacks. Burger was never an elite talent; Dunning is a nice pitcher, but others have progressed. 3 or 4 years seems reasonable to me (4 years would be 2020)...at some point, is there accountability?
  21. You're probably right, although I really don't know why the window has shifted out a year or 2 other than it apparently has and the FO wants to push it back. I hope it isn't for job security. I think they could put together a competitive (.500ish) team for next year without trading prospects or even going crazy in FA. But they seem to want to wait. That said, they probably should move Rodon, but could probably get a lot more a year from now. But if they get a Q like offer, then by all means. But they should move Abreu and of course Avi.
  22. What evidence is there of any of this? What is special about the development of Giolito and Lopez? They are 2 pitchers who were top prospects and who are still struggling. Where would they be without the great Shields? The best I can tell, this is deflective spin out of Hahn. I am not jumping on you - if it appears that way, I apologize. I'm jumping on this FO.
  23. Hate to see the Twins quit - they are only 7 games out and Indians aren't that great. Hate to see the Twins get more prospects
