That pretty much matches Justin Turner's resume including...drafted in the 7th round and not doing a thing in the majors until he was 29. Do I think Saladino will be Turner - of course not; it's extremely unlikely. But I still don't see why they gave him away, with Charlotte populated with Jake Elmore.
-
The bunting is largely why I think he's a bad manager (pulling players for some boneheaded plays, but not others, is another reason). Bunting is such a defeatist "play not to lose" strategy in most circumstances. Still, he doesn't have much of a roster; and while he had that goofy inning yesterday, I think he's managed the pitchers pretty well overall and showed a lot of flexibility with the bullpen.
-
The Sox didn't need him on the roster at the time, but he was the next man up. And low and behold, not long after he's moved, Leury goes down. I think you're right - Sox wanted to do him a solid rather than send him to Charlotte.
-
While Renteria doesn't seem like much of a manger to me, this rebuilding team has its DH, utility guy, LF, RF all on the DL. The roster now has several certified AAAA players who aren't even audition candidates. In these circumstances, it's hard to tell for sure.
-
Which is what the Sox should have done, rather than give him away. The Sox are loaded with "older" players 25-30. Look at Charlotte with Jake Elmore et al. I realized the Brewers needed him for depth, not to start, but it doesn't explain the Sox motive.
-
Can't play for this team, but you can start for the Brewers? Why did the Sox just give him away?

Madrigal certainly is; Singer is on some boards. But both have kinks that will have to fixed or worked around. India, Bohm, Bart, Swaggerty - none seem like true top 5 talents. Looks like a good year to get BPA via leveraging the draft and getting the value in later rounds or punt the choice into next year's draft.
-
Fast moving is fine; I don't think it's a reason to draft them, esp for this org that has struggled for so long with the draft.. Mize would be great, assuming his health checks out. Singer has that goofy delivery - not for a top 5. Always get best player available, which probably means Go prep.
-
A 35% K rate is a problem whether you like it or not. And it's more likely to carry forward than the 24.5% rate if he doesn't hit better.
-
While lack of walks is always a concern, a lot of walks doesn't always carry forward, obviously due to the far superior control of major league pitchers. Like to see that batting average higher and still too many Ks.
-
that's what the Sox look for - fast movers and good in the pristine clubhouse, both of which should be ancillary, if that.
-
And there it is.
-
That seems like a good approach; although I think they really did want to move Q. Don't get that feeling with Abreu, but I hope they are open to it.
-
Fine - you're using an exception to disprove a rule... someone with the bat-speed and strength of Bonds overcame it, a little guy like Madrigal should be able to as well. You got me. Mike Trout wasn't a top 5 pick; therefore top 5 picks don't matter.
-
Nothing like the exception posing as the rule.
-
I was on the Madrigal bandwagon, despite the lack of power, until I read the word "hitch." A lot of flaws in the upper environs of this draft.
-
Do what the Astros did: go prep, lowball the offer, do not sign, come back at #5 in a stronger draft next year (presuming that's still the rule). And if he signs, you'll be way underslot and be able to use that premium in later rounds.
-
High flame-out rate; injury rate; contending White Sox teams have historically been at least a starter short. Giolito was a top 10 guy once, Fulmer top 100 and #8 pick. But it's tough to draft a prep arm that high; Mize will be gone and please not Singer. That said, I'd always draft best player available and this draft is no exception, unless they can really do a "underslot" and then "overslot" a prep player.
-
I would send him to the minors. Give him a different voice from Cooper. No reason to give up on him either. A lot of prospects don't make it - so far, 3 top pitching prospects are up and only 1 looks like a keeper. Which is why counting out 7 nice pitching prospects in the minors and saying "there's our rotation of the future" won't work. Stunted growth, injuries...keep the pipeline flowing. Draft better.
-
Instead of going for the throat early in the game, Ricky sacrifice bunts. Just like the consistently poor talent evaluation (or non-evaluation) of veterans - yea, it doesn't matter now. But it's not going to change when it does matter, because it was this way when it did matter.
-
Yolmer is also getting better. Don't really want a bunch of mediocre volume for him. The Sox would be lucky to get another Yolmer for him - and that Yolmer wouldn't be Yolmer for a few years. Or it would be another stunted AAA guy like Tilson. The C+s are what I want out of these bullpen flippers.

Surprise: Rosenbloom article bashes Sox/Renteria

4 - Outbidding every other team, which is what matters. If 1-3 are so important, why didn't/aren't other non-contenders pursuing him. -
Sox.Orioles Game thread 5.23.18 The Return of Covey
GreenSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Well, that was a good game. Might have a find with Covey - he had no chance last year, essentially moving from A ball to the majors. This org has more success with the back end of other teams prospect lists than they do front-line line veterans.
