If all he can throw is 2 pitches, how did he check all the boxes?

Anyone know the deal with Jake Elliot - he's in his 2nd full year at Kanny, both with stellar statistical results, but he hasn't been moved up.

Did he fire Scheuler? If not, it's 3 decades. And they won't even put a serious manager on the field to help them with the rebuild - someone who knows the game and knows talent.

Okay, but where is the real hitting core: it's basically Jimenez, Moncada and Anderson. And then another player or 2 would join the party, maybe even extend Abreu. Well that core isn't progressing. Every rebuild will have a few setbacks. Burger was never an elite talent; Dunning is a nice pitcher, but others have progressed. 3 or 4 years seems reasonable to me (4 years would be 2020)...at some point, is there accountability?

You're probably right, although I really don't know why the window has shifted out a year or 2 other than it apparently has and the FO wants to push it back. I hope it isn't for job security. I think they could put together a competitive (.500ish) team for next year without trading prospects or even going crazy in FA. But they seem to want to wait. That said, they probably should move Rodon, but could probably get a lot more a year from now. But if they get a Q like offer, then by all means. But they should move Abreu and of course Avi.

What evidence is there of any of this? What is special about the development of Giolito and Lopez? They are 2 pitchers who were top prospects and who are still struggling. Where would they be without the great Shields? The best I can tell, this is deflective spin out of Hahn. I am not jumping on you - if it appears that way, I apologize. I'm jumping on this FO.

I would think that if he rakes at Birmingham they could just call him straight up to Chicago. He's been in the minors a long time. If they want to go through Charlotte, Charlotte's OF is full only in the sense that the Sox bullpen is full.

Sox obviously can't make an offer like that right now. Plus, the Sox are big on personalities/chemistry and other fluff stuff. Do the Sox see Rodon as part of the future? It's probably a matter of trading him now or next year. If the Q like offer is made, they have to take it. If it isn't, it's probably worth the wait, Assuming all of the possible suitors actually like Rodon, then I'd think the Padres are the most likely to come in with an offer because they should be able to move Mejia without much angst.

And while no one knows for sure that Rodon is fixed and on the fast track to acedom, I would think most teams inquiring aren't looking to pay premium price for him either. As for timing, they should be competitive in 2020, or this mgt team should finally exit left. Even if not, they have plenty of time to trad him.

Mejia should be the easiest to trade...doesn't have that fear of trading the unknown for the known.....you just say we flipped Brad Hand for Carlos Rodon. That the Indians gave up Mejia for a reliever gives me pause to wonder if he's not overrated. If I were Hahn, I would just want to forget Tatis. Talk about no-win. "Yea, I had to trade Carlos Rodon to recover who I squandered for James Shields." And then if he turns out a bust? Yikes!

Well I misunderstood. If that's the going rate, and not just a one-time freak outcome, then absolutely nurture Fry for the next year or 2 and see what we have.

The 3 best relievers are lefties: Avilan, Cedeno, Fry. (and the next man up, Bummer, is also a lefty) Avilan and Cedeno have 2 years of control each. They should be moved, if possible, by Tuesday - whatever prospect they can get for them will be of higher quality with the extra year of a cheap contract.

And what is a top 25 really - well, we just got one for Soria, and his most likely outcome is as a situational lefty - could be better, could be worse, but that's the most probable. So you trade a player, say Jace, for a player whose most likely outcome is to become in 2 years what Jace is right now. It's tough to make real gains unless you draft it yourself or you trade a monster player or you hit a lottery ticket (which is not all luck - teams that scout well hit more lottery tickets than teams that don't).

It is an issue, but who are the several? The Sox are going to need 4-5 hitters .800 OPS and above; and only a couple can be of the no-defense profile like Avi and Abreu. These college hitters should look good through A Ball, but once they hit AA, we get closer to reality. There are some there.

So is Abreu back in play?

The entire bullpen; Avi, Abreu, Leury, Yolmer, Davidson, Narvaez....I would hesitate in trading any of the latter 4 (because they are still not fully developed and won't get good value in trade), but they will have to make decisions.

I believe so, yes. Veterans can be rule 5d - see Gose last year. There are plenty they can dump, but hopefully they can trade a few, so they have room to pick up more for next year. Also, they will have their own prospects become rule 5 eligible for the first time this year.
