  1. I love his swing. Smooth.
  2. They all had ace stuff, and they pitched like it for various amounts of time. Hahn turned Hector Santiago into 2 of those guys (plus a 3rd) in the 2 best trades he ever made (and he didn't make many good trades). I'd like to see Getz make some normal baseball trades (i.e. neither buying nor selling) and turn someone like Cannon into the next Eaton.
  3. How hard does Smith throw- is he a 95+ guy? I generally disfavor pitchers in the first round, but maybe that's where the value lies in this weird/weak draft.
  4. Well, a system needs probably 12 good starting prospects to be confident that they can fill out the rotation when they hit the majors. I just read a tweet that the White Sox have more OPS 100+ hitters in the lineup (100 ABs minimum) than the Yankees. Obviously, the Yankees have 2 of the top 4 hitters in baseball as well. But if you look around at these rosters of the various 2nd tier contenders, most of them have at least 1/2 a lineup below .700 OPS. Now they each have a couple of great hitters. Things change and this year may be an anomaly on that sort of thing, but if Robert comes back to form and hits like a beast, how far away are they? Maybe a couple of great hitters, a few average players, and some defense and a competent manager. Which I guess is a long way.
  5. Perhaps so; I certainly hope so. But shouldn't we expect about the same for Crochet? Both are ace level; Cease had a down 2023 versus concerns about Crochet's innings and injury history. Now Crochet's peak is higher than Cease's so that might mean a bit higher return for Crochet; July v. offseason might help, too. But it's in the ballpark; would we be happy with that?
  6. Has anything changed such that teams will trade away their best prospects or even their 3rd best? We heard all about all of the great offers for Cease, but in the end we got one player in the back half of the top 100. There are some FOs that have done it in the recent past, but one of those is San Diego and they didn’t. Seattle and Philly are others, but they don’t need pitching. Baltimore and Milwaukee certainly need a starter, but they didn’t get where they are by trading away good prospects. And then there is the timing. If they want to trade him, they should be purely focused on that. But they seem to be prioritizing the All-Star game, which really means they won’t trade him until after that: and then Pedro yaps about limiting workload and they throw him 7 yesterday. All kind of a mess.
  7. Soroka pitched well today and has been pitching well recently.
  8. I keep going back and forth in my mind as to whether we should trade Crochet and Robert. I guess when the Sox play reasonably well, I want to keep them. And when we get blown out, I want to trade them. Accordingly, I'm leaning toward keeping them, with the understanding that we'll probably have to trade them next year at this time. I'm not convinced that their value will be depreciated much, if at all, given Crochet's innings limitations (perceived or real) this year and Robert's injuries and the possible Pedro effect on wanting to get rid of Robert (Pedro needs a pristine clubhouse with lots of Nicky Lopez'). What are the chances of the Sox finding another hitter like Robert in a dispersal trade? Brebbia is pitching himself into the July trade conversation. Pretty good numbers.
  9. What is a "barrel?" A nouveau word for "homer?" Anyway, it's the same thing out of Bummer this year as in the past: Low homer totals, High Whip (1.60 this year), high ERA, but low FIP. So i guess the idea is that he keeps getting unlucky that so many of the balls hit against him are dropping in for hits. It goes back to those theories that the only true measurables are Ks and homers. But at some point, when "bad luck" keeps happening year after year, you have to question the validity of the statistic. Sox did fine on this trade.
  10. I like both of them, too. I think Cleveland takes Wetherholt. And stop giving away picks. Nuance the draft, like the Guardians.
  11. Well, that looks like a fair deal on paper. But I am in the minority and am leery of these Oriole prospects. I think that they have hugged them so hard and for so long has inflated their reputation. But that’s about as good an offer as we’ll get.
  12. Lopez was a Free Agent. Kudos to the Braves for starting him. They also made a nifty trade for Sale: Vaughn Grissom has a Lopez-level OPS this season. The team that gets Kopech will start him next season. T
  13. Isn't that what we basically got in Givens? I realize that Bummer's FIP was a run < than his ERA, but he was also walking 5+/9. I find it hard to believe that teams were ponying up much for 5+ walks in a pennant race. I get offseason, where you have an entire Spring to work with him. In the end, we got several players who had a chance to be decent plus a prospect. The prospect appears to be decent, while the players not so much. Soroka might even be figuring it out (4 decent outings in a row) although he still has a lot to prove. I'd either let him start a couple of games, or use him in more pressure situations. He does the Sox no good if they can't move him. All in all, I can't complain about the Bummer trade.
  14. Let’s see him do that in high leverage situations. Or put him back in the rotation and let him pitch six good ones a few times before July 31. time is running short on some of these guys whose only value is to be peddled next month.
  15. How about taking a page from the Dodgers playbook and batting Robert at leadoff. Give the team's best hitter the most at bats. Can't hurt.
  16. Of all the players to pinch hit, Pedro picks Mendick. Maybe he thinks a 2B has to PH for a 2b.
  17. After their first 3, the Dodgers lineup is less than Daunting. Of course, they're missing 2 of their big guns this series.
  18. Oh they'll try to throw Pages, Outman and Luz in there with a couple of good prospects and a couple of lower guys. Not what the Sox are looking for (I hope).
  19. Skepticism is fine, but there was never a hard and fast rule that he had some specific innings limit. That was invented. Also fairy dust are these ideas that going to the bullpen can save his arm. It would probably make things riskier as you get really amped up to throw as hard as you can when pitching in relief. i’ve wanted him to start since the day that drafted him. I certainly didn’t know he would be a good starter. But the reward is so much greater than the downside that it’s worth the risk.
  20. What's the point of Clevinger at all? No other team wants him: that was obvious last year at this time when he was having a good year and couldn't be moved. And then no one signed him.
  21. Well they could just cut him right now then. While that would $15 mill less than can spend for each of the next 3 years, what are they going to spend it on anyway? I would think players that they can peddle at midseason for prospects. Well, if you're going to reduce your prospect haul from Robert/Crochet by moving his contract, you aren't really gaining anything. Unless you think that they can sign players with the intent on winning in the next 2 years.
  22. Per ESPN's Cy Young rankings, Crochet (AL #2) would be the Dodgers #1 and Fedde (AL #5) the Dodgers #2. Glasnow, (NL #4) would be pushed back to Dodgers #3. Showcase, boys. Showcase.
