  1. Winning is more enjoyable, and the Sox need more talent to win. The only way they seem to be able to get real talent is from other teams (maybe Elko and the starters will break the spell). Frankly, they should see what they can get for Shane Smith. Probably not enough. But if some team offered a Crochet-like package....
  2. Those guys are utility infielders. I'd try to get someone like Boston Baro - a guy deep in the minors but who could turn out to be something. I understand that Robert's numbers are poor so he's risky; but he's also high-reward. Some team will pay for him.
  3. Well Law just said that he fixed his swing. Law's early 2024 rankings had Caleb at around #20; by the time of the draft, he had dropped him way down to the 50s, with the changing/inconsistent swing the reason. In that context, the comment that he fixed his swing is significant imv.
  4. Law had a hopeful comment about him in a recent chat.
  5. Boston could use better backup catching. Maybe package him and a streaking Vaughn.
  6. I think a couple of them are in the current rotation - they'll be moved either to the pen or to another team. As for luck, well what is Shane Smith? To a large extent, the more smart decisions and hard work you put in, the "luckier" you get. (the last regime barely bothered to use Rule 5 at all in their final rebuild). On the other hand, how could the Brewers, an org. that knows what it's doing, especially on the margins, miss on a pitcher like this? And, yes it was a choice not a "no room at the inn" situation, as they made a Rule 5 pick themselves.
  7. Good draft to pick first in rounds 2-20. Plenty of bats without reaching.
  8. I can only presume that we would have taken Witt, given the opportunity. Hagen Smith should be good - I doubt he flops. Realistically in 2019, some suggested that we take Abrams...he or Riley Greene would have been helpful. I just remember at the time that I absolutely did not want the Sox to take Bleday. I still think Vaughn looks good at the plate. Maybe we can trade .2 WAR Vaughn for -.1 WAR Baty.
  9. Palette has really pitched well this season. I wonder whether he is he ensconced as a reliever; or whether he was moved to the pen just to get his bearings and there really isn't much room in the rotation. Dalquist is in the same situation. If the bullpen is their future, they probably aren't far away. I hope it isn't though - might be selling them short.
  10. With all of that swing-and-miss and having a down 2025 compared to 2024, Laviolette seems like a reach at 10. Caglianone was right under their nose last year, and he had more power and a lot less K thank Laviolette.
  11. Or maybe keep Thaiss and move Lee. I assume a last gasping hope that Vaughn can turn himself into something tradeworthy is why they keep him around.
  12. That would have required a big contract extension - but that was also a time that JR and EE were signing Free Agents. He was an excellent player. May he rest in peace.
  13. If Montgomery keeps hitting like this, he'll be in Birmingham in a month and in Chicago on that magic day in May, 2026.
  14. They start a promising rally and here comes Mr. Big Time, Vaughn.
  15. This is just bizarre. Julks, Fletcher and Elko are all hitting well so he brings up Maton again? FFS. And none of Maton, Amaya, Taylor, Rojas are in "long term plans" so I don't see what that has to do with it.
  16. He doesn't strike out at an obnoxious rate...that may be something to build upon.
  17. Giolito was less than outstanding with 10H ad 6ER over 3.2. He was a big plus for the Sox: Great trade to bring him in; great trade to send him out. And he pitched great for the Sox. Hope he figures it out in Boston.
  18. He's still better than Taylor. Julks and Fletcher should be up for round 2, along with Elko for round 1. Plenty of riff-raff to cut.
  19. Amaya, Taylor - these clown-asses need to be off the team. It's ridiculous to load the team with 27th men. Royals didn't do squat all game, and they win.
  20. The Montgomery situation has been troubling for a while...Az didn't change that. But he's young, and they can take their time. He was our top position prospect, but he's no longer the only good position prospect we have. Of course most of the others were signed/drafted by other teams, so it sure would be nice if we would up our drafting game. Vaughn weariness is half the situation; he's only under control through 2026, so if he suddenly turns it on after a release, it's not like losing him would be a calamity anyway. Soon, there just will be no room for Vaughn, so they'll have to push him out in the next couple of months. I doubt Elko will succeed; but that's only because I think the Sox doubt that he'll succeed, and they have access to key data like bat speed.
  21. Amaya and his .234 OPS live! I kind of liked Dalbec - sorry to see him go.
  22. Smith looks like he could be up in August or Sept. if they wanted. Just hone the game and shake out some of those walks in Birmingham for as long as necessary...I guess he's got to throw a couple of games in Charlotte before Chicago. Palette too - unusually high ERA/WHIP ratio - threw a couple of homers. He should be a great late-inning guy if they leave him in relief.
  23. I remain on the Zyhir Hope bandwagon, and, unlike Crawford, he's realistic. Regardless, dig AA and below. Keep things flowing
