QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 11:37 PM) We're five games out. Had the team tinkered instead of done the so called rebuild we might win the division this year. Sale went 13; Trout was what 23rd? Who gives a flip about the draft? We're five games out and never gave the team a chance with a real manager, not Robin. Any tinkering likely would not have kept Avi around; and for sure no Davidson and L Garcia would be unlikely as well in a "go for it" year. In fact they might've been traded for more veterans- some young players certainly would have. And it's highly unlikely those veterans would have performed anywhere near the level these guys are performing.

I still like the idea of doing a deal with Houston. They are the best talent evaluating and development org. in baseball (by a good margin) imo. Their GM is generally willing to trade.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 09:12 PM) It's almost as unlikely as Leury Garcia being the second best player on the team by fWAR. I saw a list of leaders in defensive runs saved and Leury is #19 in MLB. That's pretty stout. Is it legit?

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) Might as well let Hawkins finish out this minor league season before cutting him loose. The power is there, he just does not make enough contact to make any use of it. AAA or MLB pitching would eat him alive He's only 23 and the Sox have had a bevy of 25-27 year olds suddenly turn it on this year. Surprise us and join the club, Courtney.

The thing that makes me uncomfortable about the BABIP % statistic is that it seems to equate all non-homer hit balls equally. So the guy who bashes it off the wall every at bat would have a "lucky" BABIP% while the guy who doinks it to the pitcher time and time again is "unlucky". Perhaps if it would distinguish between softly hit balls and hard-hit balls.... I realize Avi's under any measure is unsustainable...but he certainly does drive the ball a lot. And as they say, sometimes you make your own "luck."

Are yall listening to the draft. There used to be a place without the MLB commentary. MLB is rolling 1 pick, 1 commercial, 1 pick 1 commercial.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) 2 time all star with an average .810 OPS over his first 4 full years in the league at controlled cost? Third place in Rookie of the Year voting? Yea, trade that before it even starts. I said the Sox version of Todd Frazier....he hasn't delivered anything close to that on the Sox. How about someone like Robin Ventura, who was drafted #10 and delivered an average OPS of over .800 over a 16 year career.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) If we get Todd Frazier out of Burger, that is a pretty good win for the Sox. If we get Troy Glaus, buy Hostetler a drink or something, because that is a home run of a pick. The Sox version of Todd Frazier? If that's the hope from first round draft choices, then the Sox should trade them once it is allowed.

DRAFT TRACKER 2017, and Day One Discussion
GreenSox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:37 PM) Not the sexy draft picks some might say, but burger and sheets both help to fill gaps that this organization currently did not have. Power hitting 3B prospect and a left handed dh/1b prospect with power. Both have seen the ability to draw walks and neither strikes or a ton (for now). In what appears to be a fairly weak draft these could become important depth for the organization at positions that were pretty barren. I prefer the best player available approach versus reaching for need and position. No one knows which players will succeed, which will flame out. If you end up with surplus in one position, you can use it to fill holes in others. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) Wow. Nationals just picked Seth Romero. Great pick. He wasn't kicked off the team for stealing, hurting anybody or anything like that. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) Missed the end of the answer by Hostetler, but seems like he said focus might be on lefty hitter in 2nd or 3rd How about best player available? Amass talent. It can be sorted out later. -

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) Hostetler just got asked about trading picks, similar to what I asked in another thread. He said it's coming in the next CBA or two but he's not thrilled about it Creates another advantage to skilled front offices...the most able of which probably will just keep their picks. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) Just my opinion that he will be under slot Hopefully - he was generally in the 15-25 range, not 11. But have the Sox ever signed a player under slot? -

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) Not necessarily. A lot of clubs today are valuing position players very highly. Got Eaton that way. I just don't see any value in reaching. -

Hope not. Take best talent available; no reaching - no position picking. Can always trade pitching if there's an excess. -

Don't reach; take one of the pitchers. -
Not difficult at all - do not draft him. Whether he should be allowed in MLB or another team should draft him is another question. But as for the Sox: do not draft.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) Moustakas just hit his 16th homer, fwiw. That said, Frazier will have a significantly lower asking price...who else needs a 3B right now? Either one of those guys would fit well in Boston. Sandoval only at 616 ops. Obviously Todd can DH and play 1b as well. I'm hoping the Royals hesitate for another month before moving into the sell mode (and obviously that the Sox act aggressively in that time). The Royals have players that would compete with both Frazier and Robertson on the trade market.
-
Just don't see teams willing to pay a top of the rotation price for Q at this point. I also don't see the Sox accepting anything less. Trading for a guy having a good year on a 1 year contract is probably a more sound investment for a contender.

June 11th Game Thread: White Sox at Cleveland Indians
GreenSox replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) How many games are the Sox going to lose outhitting their opponents this year, 40? Due to 29th in walks, 29th in doubles, 23rd in homers. Ranked high in triples, but no team hits many of those anyway. -
QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) Takes two teams to make a deal. And there are teams that will need him. The challenge is that it looks like there will be may be 10 buyers and 20 sellers this year.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Nice article by ESPN on best players from each draft slot since it started in 1965. They based everything on WAR. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1955342...every-spot-1-30 McCutcheon, Scherzer & G Springer best at #11. Sale best ever at #13. 2nd best pick at #16 is....Brett Lawrie. My thoughts are that you really need a top 3 pick to have a chance at a superstar and a top 15 pick to really even have a chance at anything more than a crapshoot. Shows how much talent there is outside the first round ( some of those slots were mighty thin, as you pointed out). it's a crapshoot but some shoot (evaluate talent) better than others.

Another value outing for Robertson. I really don't know what more he needs to showcase. He can pitch the ninth, he can pitch multiple innings (the need for which is in vogue these days), and he already pitched effectively 3 days in a row. The demand may increase over the next 6 weeks, but I don't see how he pitches better than he has been.
