QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) What? They want Engel to get everyday at-bats and he wasn't going to get those with Luery playing well in front of him. That's how I see it....give daily CF work to both Engel and L Garcia and find out if either (or both) is a keeper.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) Not sure I totally agree with you. I think Sanchez is a keeper but Moncada will eventually push him off 2nd. Maybe he becomes the utility player. But that might mean Leury will not have a role. So I think one of two has a place in the future as a utility player. Davidson has shown a good power bat but his 40%+ SO rate is way too high. Hopefully over the rest of the season that drops. Avi has become a major plus and solves one OF position if he continues. Anderson's bat is much better than last year so that is a positive. I did say IF. And IF the talent is abundant, it will sort itself out. If Yolmer keeps this up, perhaps it will be Moncada who needs to move - to the outfield. Anyway, the chances of any individual Sanchez, L Garcia et al sticking is greater than the chances of most individual prospects (with the inherent flame out rate of prospects) becoming contributors; none were expected, so it's all a plus.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) The whole point of the thread is not to go for it but that our rebuild is super far along, which is super enviable. Good players are about to come up from AAA. Celebrate! The Sox have traded 3 players; the tear-down hasn't even finished. The one area in which the rebuild is ahead of schedule is if Sanchez, Davidson and L Garcia are keepers....certainly so far so good, and their performance would fit on a competitive team.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Just sayin... 7-15 outside the division. 12-17 on the road. 15 of the next 19 games are on the road. Probably will be good and buried by the break. And 8-18 against teams with winning records.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) I think we all know that there will be trades but there are players we still have control and a couple we might even consider extending a year or two until our minor league prospects are ready. There's no need or benefit to a complete tanking The only veterans in contract years who are contributing and perhaps worth extending are Gonzales and Holland because the young pitching is neither ready not particularly deep. But those 2 might also bring something back in trade, so it would make more sense to trade then re-sign if they want them.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Beck is 18/5 K/BB in 19 innings with a 2.84 ERA and a 17.6 HR/FB%. Sox shining some turds this year. Sure are. Sox were due some good fortune in that department.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 07:59 AM) Not the only concern I'd have. As I said in my post above, the Diamondbacks farm in incredibly thin on talent. Take a look and there just really is not much of anything in their cupboard moving forward. Well some of the Sox 2nd tier pitching might work for them.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) I think you just got to hope Frazier goes on an extended hot streak between now and July 31st. That's it. His OPS is .667; his batting average is .184. He's played 2 games at first base this season...give him some more work there could help some. Decent chance someone will take a flier in an August waiver deal, with the only risk a month or 2 of salary. I guess it could help the Sox recoup some of the money they will have to pay forward on Robertson in order to get good deal for him. Frazier makes $12 million; he will take a big pay cut next season...probably one of those 1 year deals to recoup value.
-
QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:37 AM) Robertson is the only guy listed who has a chance to bring back a top 100 prospect. The rest of those guys have little to no trade value. I agree that Robertson is the only guy with a chance to bring back a top 100; but other guys could bring back prospects with potential who could develop into top 100s. Sox need a lot of those type of prospects too. Holland, Melky, Frazier, Swarzak et al need to be traded.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:25 AM) This would be a nervy pick, like taking Alec Hansen in the second round last year (he was a likely top-of-draft guy who fell due to performance, not injury), but with the higher risk of taking Kendall at 11 when there are lots of good college bats such as Logan Warmoth still on the board. Except this is taking him with pick 11 instead of 49. Not a ton of premium in there to be squeezed, versus the risk.

Memorial Day Game Thread: White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox
GreenSox replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) True team effort by the White Sox. Need Jones, Putnam and Petricka back before the bullpen burns out...but only thing to do is enjoy it for now. Where are you going to put them? Nobody in the pen is pitching poorly, although I'm sure they can find room for Jones and probably Putnam. To keep the pen from burning out, the starters need to pitch longer. -
QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ May 27, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) The White Sox should start blending in their young pitchers into the bullpen rotation, but they probably should not do it all at once. If by bullpen rotation you mean bullpen, they've been blending young pitchers (or at least inexperienced pitchers) into the bullpen all season.

What to cheer for since we are in a rebuild
GreenSox replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The major league team is competitive against most teams and interesting to watch. Cheer for them. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) Lol, don't flatter yourself. I don't respond to you as much as I could, you just get a little more hurt when I point out your contradictions As I pointed out a week ago, you're approaching Wile E Coyote territory with your "gotcha" posts, so keep trying. you haven't found one yet, but not for lack of trying. Follow Dick - he's better at it than you - he actually finds posts where I whiffed (Kahnle, e.g.). I freely admit, as any non-redboarder should - there are many.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I must have missed all of the fawning over Davidson while you were complaining about Adam Eaton and saying that he would never get any better I don't pine over your posts, you are contradictory and irritating. Do you think you know more than GM's in the game, and you say it all the time while touting your Ideas as if they are revolutionary. More Saladino amirite Of course you do. You can't get enough of them. And when did Eaton ever need to get better? He was a hit from the start. The only thing I didn't like about him was he clowned a bit much for my tastes. Yea, I suggested trading him, but not because he was a bad player. You have to give something to get something - that's one of my revolutionary ideas. I fawned over the Davidson trade, not Davidson. I'm no scout. I don't know if these prospects are good or bad; I just go by the rankings, and if you trade a replaceable reliever for a top prospect, that's a good thing.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) They should be building the team around Trayce Thompson and his .589 OPS in AAA. It is amazing how wrong he has been but still posts like he knows everything. While I was ripping Kahnle, you were ripping Swarzak. You've also ripped Davdson. While I was asking to play young players, you were demanding more Fraziers. And, yes, I credited Hahn with both the Davdison and Eaton trades, while you redboarded, picking and choosing the ones that worked out well AFTER the fact. I consistently pointed out that his best trades were for young players...and questioned why he didn't do more of it.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) JFC, always a backhand compliment about Hahn. Who else would get the credit? The rebuilding process. You have to bring somebody up, Ahab. As much as you pine on my posts, I'm sure you realize that I've consistently given Hahn credit for the Reed-Davidson, well before Davidson's breakout.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) I just want to take credit for NOT jinxing Giolito's no-hitter by bringing it up prematurely, lol... (Although it was amusing that some Q fans argued recently they'd rather have him strike out 8-10 with ER's than put up numbers similar to Giolito's in terms of BB's/K's). As far as trade value for Q, yes, and as far as projection and development for Giolito, also yes, the 8-10 run exaggeration obviously excepted.

If Danish can hold up to the Charlotte call-ups who have preceded him this season, that would be something. Why not - Beck can do it, so can Danish.

Do a team a good turn, it creates good will and pays off in the long run.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 25, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) Hahn is a great rebuild GM but it remains to be said if he can build a sustainable winner. So far he's done well, hopefully by this time next year we are seeing the fruits of his labor. Agree (although "great" may be a stretch). We already are seeing fruits....if not Hahn's, of someone's labor or good fortune. It's getting on 2 months (and a sample size is building), and Avi has been great (including emerging from a mini-slump), Davidson has been quietly consistent as heck, and Leury and perhaps Yolmer are useful players who would be productive on a 25. On the pitching side, Kahnle and maybe even Beck look like keepers. In toto, this rebuilding club has as the best run differential in the division.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) This may have been a joke / clickbait but he has a very long track record of openly disparaging anything concerning the organization. He did in the old days when Williams was running the operation; he's been favorably disposed to Hahn, overall. I will say, I thought his analysis of Robert was a little macro; too much "cuban players in general" stuff in his ESPN review of the signing, the type of analysis he normally eschews (for good reason).

QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 23, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) Quintana comes with an additional season of control, which you certainly cannot discount that value. Bleacher report proposed: Quintana for Fisher, Paulino, Perez and Cameron Certainly a very interesting proposal due to the depth, but not getting Tucker or Martes is curious. It's 4 top 100s (by some counts) and if you get Tucker/Martes, you won't get much else. If Sox don't think thatd Tucker/Martes are that far ahead of the other group, then do it.

That Robertson return was reasonable at the time. Don't be so sure that we're flush with pitching prospects. It's hard to turn those prospects into major league starting pitchers. Most flame out. This year their are bright signs from the youth on the major league roster, but that's from position players and relievers. And you'll need plenty of depth, else you have another year of Noesi. Take the best talent we can get.
