The good farms stock their low minors consistently, often through international investment; the Sox really don't, so this is a way to achieve the same goal. As for Leury, if he's a .720 OPS hitter legitimately, he has value; maybe value the Sox should keep. Playing SS and CF allows a team to add an additional bat and go with one less no-hit utility player. Year after year, when going for it, the Sox used 2 spots on utility players who couldn't hit.

I don't see the market for Quintana being all that super duper. They can get some good prospects, but not the elite. Plus, as per above, it appears that the best prospects of likely suitors are in their own positions of need. Now the Sox do have a chance at getting good returns on any of a number of relievers...if they don't just concentrate on Robertson and Q.

Indeed, the trade was terrible regardless of whether Tatis was a quality prospect. That he is, makes it horrific. Equally horrific is the fact that the Sox didn't know it (no sane person would have traded real talent and taken on that contract). Maybe Hahn can make up for his bout of lunacy by nabbing a top 100 for Holland.

If Kahnle has harnessed his control (which I thought highly unlikely 2 months ago), he's likely going to be a darn good reliever. The Ks are there, which as a great predictive stat, suggest this has staying power. Trading now is likely selling low, and for sure would net nothing more than a modest prospect. We have plenty of other players to trade anyway (although it would be nice if Melky and Frazier would awaken from their comas) ...and at Hahn speed, there likely will be a surplus left over on August 1.

The Sox had plenty of second-tier position and bullpen guys who had performed reasonably well in AAA to give them an audition spot on the roster. Some of them are playing pretty well: Kahnle, Davidson, Leury, e.g. But there aren't any starters like that. Thus the Sox had to sign Pelfrey. This would have been a nice year for a Junior Guerra to pop up, but one hasn't. Danish would qualify, but he's not pitching well. Who else is there? Can Beck be stretched out? Does he have multiple pitches? If there is no one, it's not like Covey is causing a lot of harm.

To dance the fine line of rebuilding, while giving this team a chance to contend (and what appears to be a really weak AL Central is what gives me the most hope), I suggest the following: 1)Move Robertson ASAP. Yes, the other guys could fall apart. But if they do, this team won't contend with our without Robertson. 2) Move one of the starters - either Gonzalez, or Holland. Rodon replaces 3)Move Frazier if he gets it together. 4)Hold Q until offseason. He is a premium off-season trade piece, due to the high value of his contract. 5)Send May back to the minors. Bring up W Garcia who hit well in his cup of coffee and his hitting well in AAA. Send Asche as well and bring up Delmonico or the like. 6)Keep playing the bench. It is still audition time. Yolmer may be needed as the utility player. Other than Robertson, the Sox have another month until the suggestions are really tradeable, and it may be moot by then. Hope not, though.

Robertson needs to be moved - the sooner the better. He will bring back the best value. Plus, if the Sox still want to dance in "we're in it" land, they will still have a good pen without Robertson. Heck Kahnle is pitching as well as any of them...he is finally throwing strikes and could be an authentic Coop fixed 'em. Jones, Jennings and Swarzak will all bring back good value, presuming they keep it up. Jennings is pitching multiple innings, which is in vogue. Good value, of course, is relative. Swarzak does have a track record and has had good years before. In fact, if one uses the Petricka standard, Swarzak has had only 1 bad year (and that was over 13 innings). Then put Cooper's reputation on top of it and you have yourself a trade chit. Not for a top prospect, but for one with potential to develop. Looks like Hahn has a lot to trade.

A couple of these 2016 draft choices/Kanny players, are having nice starts to their season.
