  1. I don't see the market for Quintana being all that super duper. They can get some good prospects, but not the elite. Plus, as per above, it appears that the best prospects of likely suitors are in their own positions of need. Now the Sox do have a chance at getting good returns on any of a number of relievers...if they don't just concentrate on Robertson and Q.
  2. Indeed, the trade was terrible regardless of whether Tatis was a quality prospect. That he is, makes it horrific. Equally horrific is the fact that the Sox didn't know it (no sane person would have traded real talent and taken on that contract). Maybe Hahn can make up for his bout of lunacy by nabbing a top 100 for Holland.
  3. If Kahnle has harnessed his control (which I thought highly unlikely 2 months ago), he's likely going to be a darn good reliever. The Ks are there, which as a great predictive stat, suggest this has staying power. Trading now is likely selling low, and for sure would net nothing more than a modest prospect. We have plenty of other players to trade anyway (although it would be nice if Melky and Frazier would awaken from their comas) ...and at Hahn speed, there likely will be a surplus left over on August 1.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 12, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Something tells me they won't be buying at the deadline. Which might mean that the Nats won't buy until the deadline. There appears to be zero competition in that division, so they only need to load up for the playoffs.
  5. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Nicky D is knocking on the door, and matt Davidson needs ABs. What we do to move Todd? Keep playing him for trade value? Yea you have to keep playing him. With home run derby just 2 months away, maybe he will pick it up so he can claim his spot.
  6. QUOTE (turnin' two @ May 7, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) Source? 5.2 IP, 7H, 8R, 5ER, 2 BB
  7. The Sox had plenty of second-tier position and bullpen guys who had performed reasonably well in AAA to give them an audition spot on the roster. Some of them are playing pretty well: Kahnle, Davidson, Leury, e.g. But there aren't any starters like that. Thus the Sox had to sign Pelfrey. This would have been a nice year for a Junior Guerra to pop up, but one hasn't. Danish would qualify, but he's not pitching well. Who else is there? Can Beck be stretched out? Does he have multiple pitches? If there is no one, it's not like Covey is causing a lot of harm.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ May 2, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Shields would be ideal if he was healthy; but, I'm not sure if the Mets want to take on that much salary. Ideal for the White Sox to get rid of, but for the Mets...good gracious. The only chance to dump Shields is if a)he is pitching really well and b)the Sox eat most of the salary and c)a contender needs 5th starter help. Holland might yield something, but it will take at least another 6 weeks to provide more proof of his value. Gonazlez allows too much contact. The pen, on the other hand, shows more potential for trade.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) If the Sox truly blew this off season, this franchise is f***ed for a long, long time. Maybe, maybe not. The Astros didn't get squat from its sell-off. But the Sox certainly need to draft better. You do have to dig extra deep on top prospects that teams are willing to deal. Often personality issues, or the teams believe that they are stunted. That's another reason I'm good with non-touted prospects with upside for our second-tier players to trade (like Robertson).
  10. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 1, 2017 -> 07:22 AM) How do you figure this? Lucas Harrell returned Travis Demeritte last year who's on a lot of top 100 lists. This is just a few months after Harrell was pitching in Korea. James Shields returned Fernando Tatis Jr, also on top 100 lists. There are other examples too, I'm sure Yep, although it would be helpful if Hahn could trade with himself.
  11. A lot of beating around the bush, so here's another one, "compliments" of my wife who reads Hollywood gossip: http://crazydaysandnights.net/2017/04/blin...aled-4-769.html
  12. To dance the fine line of rebuilding, while giving this team a chance to contend (and what appears to be a really weak AL Central is what gives me the most hope), I suggest the following: 1)Move Robertson ASAP. Yes, the other guys could fall apart. But if they do, this team won't contend with our without Robertson. 2) Move one of the starters - either Gonzalez, or Holland. Rodon replaces 3)Move Frazier if he gets it together. 4)Hold Q until offseason. He is a premium off-season trade piece, due to the high value of his contract. 5)Send May back to the minors. Bring up W Garcia who hit well in his cup of coffee and his hitting well in AAA. Send Asche as well and bring up Delmonico or the like. 6)Keep playing the bench. It is still audition time. Yolmer may be needed as the utility player. Other than Robertson, the Sox have another month until the suggestions are really tradeable, and it may be moot by then. Hope not, though.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) Jordan Guerrero is doing some weird stuff. He is striking out a ton of hitters and also getting hit v hard. Yea, I was going to ask North or any other scout about him. Last year he got hit and his K rate was way down. this year, the K rate is back up to his standards, but he's still getting hit.
  14. Robertson needs to be moved - the sooner the better. He will bring back the best value. Plus, if the Sox still want to dance in "we're in it" land, they will still have a good pen without Robertson. Heck Kahnle is pitching as well as any of them...he is finally throwing strikes and could be an authentic Coop fixed 'em. Jones, Jennings and Swarzak will all bring back good value, presuming they keep it up. Jennings is pitching multiple innings, which is in vogue. Good value, of course, is relative. Swarzak does have a track record and has had good years before. In fact, if one uses the Petricka standard, Swarzak has had only 1 bad year (and that was over 13 innings). Then put Cooper's reputation on top of it and you have yourself a trade chit. Not for a top prospect, but for one with potential to develop. Looks like Hahn has a lot to trade.
  15. A couple of these 2016 draft choices/Kanny players, are having nice starts to their season.
  16. QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) I would love to see Holland or MiGo moved to a team like the dbacks for pick #68 and an interesting lotto ticket like Marcus Wilson. of the teams that have picks that might consider trading them i would say there are four maybe five, if the Rockies really pull ahead. pick 36 - Marlins - $1,888,800 pick 68 - Dbacks - $880,100 pick 70 - Rockies - $837,300 pick 74 - Orioles - $779,500 pick 75 - Astros - $767,400 Nice - that's the kind of creativity the Sox need.
  17. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 05:45 AM) Some of the supposed bad teams have started rather well maybe one or two of them decide against selling more. Who could still sell at the headline? Royals Blue jays Maybe: pirates
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) What level is this 29 year old recently DFAed player at? Is he too AAAA for you? Too much of a prospect? What day is it today, are you for the rebuild or do we have too many prospects Let's see, I said no to the AAAA player and yes to bringing up the 24 year old prospect. Are you still angry with me?
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Owed about 3 million. Sox would have to clear a 40 man spot. I'd take him over May for sure. Martin is actually a MLB player for starters. No Sox don't need mlb players of that level. Give W Garcia a shot.
  20. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Who gets bumped when Petricka and Rodon are brought back onto the 12 man pitching staff? In addition, if the White Sox feel that Beck and Burdi are ready for the bullpen in May, who would be bumped? Petricka Every guy in the pen is pitching better than he is and could be better pitchers with experience. Ventura liked him.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) We are getting totally ahead of ourselves right now Robertson has pitched an excellent 5 innings so far this season, but it's stiff such a small sample size that you cannot necessarily say "he's back" just yet The pitching staff has overachieved the first two weeks of the season and is due for serious regression, especially from Holland and Shields I'm pretty much assuming his career norms. If he actually keeps this up, he is worth an elite prospect.
  22. I don't think Happ is that outrageous. Robertson is not an elite closer, but he's at the next level. Happ, however, isn't an elite prospect - he, too, is at the next level. Plus factor in that if the Cubs want a Sox player, they will pay a small premium. Conclusion - not that unreasonable. I expect, however, a 50-75 prospect for him. Happ is ahead of that.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Burdi looks the part, but I don't want to see him in Chicago this year. He didn't look it today.
  24. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 06:38 PM) White Sox option Willy Garcia to AAA Charlotte. Melky Cabrera will return from paternity leave tomorrow in NY. I'm surprised it wasn't May - he really looks like he needs minor league seasoning.
