  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Song=crap. Flawed player with little likelihood of being MLB guy. That's not off the table at all for Swarzak. The guy has performed very strongly though. I think his lack of track record will bog him down despite a great 2017. He was decent in 2011, good in 2013, decent in 2016, despite the ERA; He was bad in 2012 and 2014 and basically sat out 2015. He's inconsistent, but he's good in 2017 and only 2017 is being traded. There will be worse relievers moved. Lack of track record would apply Kahnle as well.
  2. If some team offers the value equivalent to the way he's pitched, they should absolutely move him.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) It also may come with an opportunity cost...let's say the Braves made Albies available but we felt the need to stick with TA because of the extension...which, whether it is Albies or some other guy, to me seems like a plausible scenario. I hope the guy bounces back...the last couple of games he at least has had some good PAs. Then that would be the FO ignoring sunk cost. The Astros signed Jon Singelton to a premature (in retrospect) pre-arb extension, and instead of compounding their losses, he's sitting in the minors...despite the fact that First Base remains one of their weaker positions (relative to the Astros). Further, this is rebuild...they need to acquire the best talent regardless of position. They can't start penciling in prospects onto the major league roster this early in the process. A lot of these guys will flop....and when one does, it's "next man up."
  4. Teams were 0-7 yesterday; 1-6 today. Thank You, Voyagers, for ending the streak.
  5. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) I will be very disappointed if he's still on the team a month from now. The FO has plenty of other fish to fry: Melky, Frazier, Swarzak - all on contract years; Robertson (who really needs to be moved this month) and Q. And then Kahnle and about anyone else some team's interested in.
  6. Another silly bunt today. Doesn't matter at this point though.
  7. Most of the list are playing will right now, so this should go well. Swarzak is a top 40 relief pitcher thusfar and should return something of use.
  8. Very good question. And it's another reason why they need to move Melky and Frazier. All of these guys need to be auditioned. And with Hanson and W Garcia also playing pretty well, it's crowded.
  9. Congrats to Avi. Much deserved.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) You are ignoring their baseball people agreed to the trade. Ownership blocked it due to money. They also had basically agreed to a contract with Greg Holland until ownership blocked it due to a performance based option. It has nothing to do with the Eaton trade. No one knows how that trade will work out. You could say the Sox screwed them, but that's all talk at this point. But that was in the offseason, wasn't it. I can't imagine that they proceed past July without some bullpen fortification. Maybe they will - we'll see.
  11. I think the problem with the trade from the Nats perspective is that they traded for a player that they didn't really need; they had OFs and while they needed a better CF, Eaton's only an average CF defensively. He was elite in RF. Couple that with paying full price for Eaton, and you get some dissatisfaction. They arguably paid above full price, but considering that they were frustrated with Giolito, in their metrics, it's seems full, not excess. I don't know if they will do another deal with the Sox - doesn't matter that much as long as they keep looking for pen help - that maintains market demand. Plenty of teams need a reliever. Robertson won't cost THAT much - certainly not an elite prospect. But he could help any contender - he has shown he can pitch multiple innings and multiple days in a row.
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) I hope this series doesn't convince them to become sellers. That would be a double hit -because they could also be buyers, with that bullpen they have.
  13. I wish Atlanta were seriously interested in him. That's a team that could keep their top 2 or 3 (as all see me to want to do) and the Sox should still have plenty to their liking to do a deal.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) it doesn't help when three guys (Jones, Petricka, Putnam) who were supposed to be the back end of the pen cannot stay healthy That too (what I was calling back of the pen were the middle inning guys - Jones and Putnam at his best would have given the Sox quite the force in late innings with Kahnle, Robertson and Swarzak). But at this point, it should be about keeping Kahnle together and prepping Robertson and hopefully Swarzak for trade.
  15. Not to hijack, but does anyone know the status of the young CF who was having a good year? L Garcia?
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Ynoa is consistent. Rick Hahn's boy. The guy he insisted that Oakland give us along with Shark. Ynoa has had flashes but probably not a keeper. Beck holmberg and Minaya are work horses, over-used it seems to me in order to protect and keep fresh Kahnle, Swarzak and Robertson (and for good reason). Some of the former trio could be back of the pen keepers. The general inability of any starter besides Q to get 6 innings has resulted in throwing some of these guys to the wolves.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) Landing one of Frazier/Rutherford + one of Sheffield/Adams/ + Andujar + Abreu would be a great deal Excellent article and those are good possibilities. It's really a shame that they lost 2 of their top prospects to injury; unfortunate for those guys, and makes it tougher to trade the prospects they have left.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) With what we have gotten out of Smith and Narvaez so far this year, should the White Sox put in a claim on Miguel Montero? 0f course not. But old (often bad) habits die hard.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) What I'm not seeing with Hanson is the ceiling to justify the kinds of rankings he was getting as a MiLBer with non-great production. Maybe not, but he's played really well for the Sox and I'd like to see him play regularly. That will require moving Frazier/Melky which hopefully happens soon.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) Yep but the org supposedly loves him They seem to, but it's hard to understand why. He's never been very good.
  21. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) This is the result of the team in the AL with the worst record. And also of a team in the first year of a rebuild. Get used it boys...although I do think this will be the most painful of it. Once the veterans leave, we will at least have the pleasure of seeing the youngns develop. The only thing that will make this whole thing just awful will be to see the farm players just tank. That would really just be awful and what I am most worried about lol. They're not even rebuilding yet...it's still in the tear-down phase. A lot of the clowning is coming from veterans who, hopefully, will be gone in a month.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:15 AM) The Astros have benefitted (Devenski, McHugh) but also gave up Robbie Grossman and JD Martinez for virtually nothing. They also traded Domingo Santana, who has become a valuable player this year for the Brew Crew. They whiffed on Singleton but still absorbed all of these losses to the offensive depth chart. Another great example is Aaron Hicks with the Yankees this year, or the contract Jean Segura just secured. Obviously Quintana remains the best recent White Sox move of this ilk. (Fwiw, Jake Marisnick remains the one "bridge/transition" player it would be a coup to get from the Astros, but I highly doubt the stars align.) One difference is that the Astros are continuously churning out talent from their farm. They can make trades and overcome mistakes. there are a ton of ex Cubs who are really productive as well. Hendry could find talent, but he coughed it up. and that's why seemingly small moves for unheralded prospects need to be made...they only way you find a Devenski is to put yourself in a position to find a Devenski.
  23. Whoever it is, loyalty to be the first priority when selecting a manager.
  24. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) Q has won 4 games this year. I don't think trading him woulds turn into a freefall. Now trading the 2-3 relievers would. Hopefully Frazier gets traded but he is not really blocking a young player other than Saladino who I think they have soured on anyway. Delmonico is struggling defensively at AAA and probably needs till September and even then may be forced to DH. The team withstood Q's slow start because Holland et al were able to go 5 or 6 innings and the bullpen was great. But these starters are lucky to get 4 innings these days, which puts more pressure on this pen. Losing Q, will accelerate that significantly. But so be it...just hope they move some relievers as well and get this tear-down wrapped. Frazier is taking at bats from someone every day he plays. So is Melky. The Sox have young guys on the bench who could get more at bats, more time in the field (Frazier plays 3rd half the time; Melky plays left every day). Neither is very good and I hope they are both shipped out shortly.
  25. For all of the Orioles pitching problems, they just gave Parker Bridwell to the Angels earlier this year...having a very nice year. And they traded Ariel Miranda to the Mariners last summer, for the hopelessly mediocre Wade Miley. Wish the Orioles were in a buying position...Sox have a couple of starters who fit nicely in the Miley mode.
