  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) Damn, wanted at least an A-ball for him. Cash trades are so strange to me. They seem to essentially just be favors. It does seem that way. Teams frequently give career minor leaguers to each other but not so much major leaguers. I would've cut him. The Sox weren't going to cut him. Yet they essentially give him away to Tampa. Why then was he around in the first place?
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) Yep, it's a gamble, but one worth taking. All the Sox need is for Q to be Q and the return will be bountiful enough but if he can get off to a career year kind of start, whoaaa mama! If that happens, look out for the arm-chair GM's that will say the Sox traded Sale too soon. It's possible for him to get a Sale return. But that would require a)no regression and b)limited supply of pitchers in July. I think those factors are far more likely to go against the Sox than move in the Sox favor.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) It's all about options though. Davidson, Leury, Sanchez, Ynoa will all be on the team because they don't have any options. I think Asche and Bourjos make it as well. Delmonico, Hayes, and May can all be optioned and probably will be. It's just a numbers game. yea, give Davidson a few more months...no harm. It also allows Delmonico to play every day and get his defense squared away. I don't see much purpose for Bourjos on the team; but no big deal. If May plays well in AAA for a month or 2, they can boot Boujos.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) And this is the exact downside to "blow it up". If it fails, we are talking years more of problems. A successful rebuild will still result in at least 1/2 of the prospects flopping. Gotta have the stomach for it. The Sox still have only moved 3 of the 10 or so players that they need to move. The drafts of the last 2 years and for the next 2 years, along with international signings (should they finally decide to seriously partake) are also part of the rebuild. And then when they are 4 or so spots away, they will bring in the FAs (versus doing it when they have only 4 spots internally filled). If it "fails" then that means the scouting and development remain subpar.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Tommy Kahnle is better than this dope. And the stats couldn't be more cherry picked. He's not (unless and until Kahnle does something about that 5.5BB/9). I agree they were.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) Reliever who got a minor-league deal/spring training invite from the Sox. 2015 MLB with the Twins: 8.78 K/9, 2.70 BB/9, 3.38 ERA, 3.32 SIERA 2016 AAA with the Yankees: 8.29 K/9, 1.54 BB/9, 3.86 ERA, 2.96 FIP 2016 MLB with the Yankees: 9.00 K/9, 2.03 BB/9, 5.52 ERA, 3.21 SIERA 2017 Spring Training with the Sox: 11.6 K/9, 1.9 BB/9, 3.86 ERA, 2.58 FIP Interesting pick-up. Those stats are a lot better than some of the other high K guys they have picked up like Kahnle (who they actually traded for). The K BB numbers seem better than the ERA. I wonder what the problem is - homer prone?
  7. I think someone nailed the Pirates problem above - they are in the same division as the Cubs, and would be doing this for a 1 game playoff. And Meadows is a must...their big pitching prospect is already showing holes. The Astros could use him, but they are strong without him and also this would take the last of their prime prospects that are anywhere near ready. They Astros have an interesting bullpen (headlined by KW's own Devinski who can through multiple innings, which is the vogue these days). They Braves could use him; I think they plan on competing in 2018, so the timing is good. Their prospects are a little further behind, but that's okay. The Yankees could use him; there is no reason to cede that division to the RedSox. They have the surplus prospects
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 07:56 AM) 23 isn't super old but it's not super young either. He might be one of those guys that develops at a later age. I hope he gets some time in Chicago this season. He's an interesting prospect for sure. Several 3B didn't really get it until they were 25+ (Donaldson, Frazier, e.g.) Let him play OF in the minors for a year; and if he can hit, there's a place for him. One thing he does is take walks, so that's hopeful.
  9. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Is Delmonico getting a bit overlooked as a potential good player for the White Sox? By the fans he probably has been. But the Sox haven't re-assigned him yet, so they're looking at him. I wonder if he has options issues - Davidson too.
  10. It looks like Hahn is making a push to move him prior to opening day. Makes sense. Spring training pitching is an all-you-eat buffet for AAAA hitters. You just can't make much of the hitting stats. Reed is fine as a throw-in, but he's got to show he can hit real pitching; and he's not in shape so it's not like we'd be getting a Konerko. He's a pudgy slugger type if he figures it out.
  11. QUOTE (Scoots @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) I think I heard some reporters saying they wanted Rodon to be the 5th day starter. If that's the case and I heard right, then i think Rodon would go to the bottom and it will be Q, MiGo, Shields, Holland, Rodon. Really, does it matter the order they put the rotation in after Q? lol. That would make 3 lefties in a row.
  12. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Q Rodon MiGo Shields Holland That's right. Forgot about Holland.
  13. Surprised by Fulmer; but I'm happy that they will give him additional time. I guess the Rule V guy is starter #5.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Since Bourjos is most likely the Sox best OF defender the Sox have to take into consideration that better defense will help the pitcher look better for trades . I know one good defender in an OF of mediocre might not make much difference. Good point. Actually it would be 1 good defender in an otherwise bad outfield.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) I think Bourjos might be quite happy to be back playing mostly CF and we could see a bit of a rebirth from him. He may have lost a step but he is still a very good fielder. Staying healthy is always a problem for him. Very well could be true. But to what end? He's a placeholder on this team, and a 5th OF, if that, on a playoff team. Prefer to see fringe prospects over fringe "proven veterans" be the placeholders.
  16. The writer is hilarious...he just uses facts and puts them in such a way that I just roll laughing.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) I think the opposite. I think the reason they brought in all of the fringe guys that they did (Liriano, Asche, Burjos, Garcia) is that they knew these kids weren't ready, and they wanted to buy them potentially as much as a season for them to either be ready, or for new prospects to supplant them. You're probably right; still I would rather see fringe prospects play ahead of fringe veterans. Avi is only 25, so I can understand it. But Bourjos is 30 and was cut, as the deadspin guy said, from the 91 loss Phillies.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Depth is overrated. Look at how quickly our farm system has jumped in the rankings based on two trades. We need impact players from a trade of Q. If championships are mentioned in farm system rankings, it's over-rated. If you're using your farm to build a champion on the field, it isn't. Teams aren't going to give up can't miss prospects very often. A FO (Hahn/Williams) better be adept at finding developing players and "diamonds in the rough" who are going to be can't miss in a year. And another reason you need depth is to trade it to plug holes when you are a contender.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Q is very good. His value will never be as high as Sale's though. If Hahn is holding out for Austin Meadows or Gleyber Torres, then Q will never be in New York or Pittsburgh. The truth
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Glad the 2B spot is now open for him. He deserves a shot at being regular IMO. +1
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) You don't trade Burdi until he's succeeded as closer for at least one year. See the Addison Reed and Santos deals (that both sucked). All things considered, the biggest value is in that second and third year before arbitration hits...but trading him in 2017 would be completely illogical. Like I said, relievers often don't long; could expire by the time the Sox need him. moving Reed absolutely was the right thing to do. They probably missed on Davidson, although I hope he gets a lot of playing time this year (which would require Frazier to be moved, which should happen). Williams gave Santos to the Jays, similar to E Jackson. Williams was not at his best in his later years as GM.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:31 PM) Why the f*** would we trade Burdi? Because they have no need for a closer for 2/3 more years and the shelf life of closers is notoriously short. I'm sure they won't trade him, but I think they should consider it
  23. They need to move him. There is not near enough talent in this organization yet to contend. Maybe Hahn can produce a miracle trading Frazier, Robertson and Jones, but I doubt it. And if Burdi pitches to his spring training reviews, he should be moved too.
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) The Yanks look as though they want to see how their team performs before committing to a trading a haul of prospects for Q. I am curious if the news on Price has made Cashman take a step back to rethink his teams' chances of hanging with Boston this year. Best case scenario is Tampa and the Yanks stay competitive into June/July. This would keep Archer on the Rays and off the trade market add keep the Yanks in the mix for Q. Honestly, I think Cashman is discounting his own team too much. And even if they are a year away, that's well within Q's contract primetime.
  25. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) which would be better? having torres play 3rd and leaving Anderson at ss and having a sweet infield or moving Anderson to cf and being great up the middle? Moncada to CF
