  1. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Is Delmonico getting a bit overlooked as a potential good player for the White Sox? By the fans he probably has been. But the Sox haven't re-assigned him yet, so they're looking at him. I wonder if he has options issues - Davidson too.
  2. It looks like Hahn is making a push to move him prior to opening day. Makes sense. Spring training pitching is an all-you-eat buffet for AAAA hitters. You just can't make much of the hitting stats. Reed is fine as a throw-in, but he's got to show he can hit real pitching; and he's not in shape so it's not like we'd be getting a Konerko. He's a pudgy slugger type if he figures it out.
  3. QUOTE (Scoots @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) I think I heard some reporters saying they wanted Rodon to be the 5th day starter. If that's the case and I heard right, then i think Rodon would go to the bottom and it will be Q, MiGo, Shields, Holland, Rodon. Really, does it matter the order they put the rotation in after Q? lol. That would make 3 lefties in a row.
  4. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Q Rodon MiGo Shields Holland That's right. Forgot about Holland.
  5. Surprised by Fulmer; but I'm happy that they will give him additional time. I guess the Rule V guy is starter #5.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Since Bourjos is most likely the Sox best OF defender the Sox have to take into consideration that better defense will help the pitcher look better for trades . I know one good defender in an OF of mediocre might not make much difference. Good point. Actually it would be 1 good defender in an otherwise bad outfield.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) I think Bourjos might be quite happy to be back playing mostly CF and we could see a bit of a rebirth from him. He may have lost a step but he is still a very good fielder. Staying healthy is always a problem for him. Very well could be true. But to what end? He's a placeholder on this team, and a 5th OF, if that, on a playoff team. Prefer to see fringe prospects over fringe "proven veterans" be the placeholders.
  8. The writer is hilarious...he just uses facts and puts them in such a way that I just roll laughing.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) I think the opposite. I think the reason they brought in all of the fringe guys that they did (Liriano, Asche, Burjos, Garcia) is that they knew these kids weren't ready, and they wanted to buy them potentially as much as a season for them to either be ready, or for new prospects to supplant them. You're probably right; still I would rather see fringe prospects play ahead of fringe veterans. Avi is only 25, so I can understand it. But Bourjos is 30 and was cut, as the deadspin guy said, from the 91 loss Phillies.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Depth is overrated. Look at how quickly our farm system has jumped in the rankings based on two trades. We need impact players from a trade of Q. If championships are mentioned in farm system rankings, it's over-rated. If you're using your farm to build a champion on the field, it isn't. Teams aren't going to give up can't miss prospects very often. A FO (Hahn/Williams) better be adept at finding developing players and "diamonds in the rough" who are going to be can't miss in a year. And another reason you need depth is to trade it to plug holes when you are a contender.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Q is very good. His value will never be as high as Sale's though. If Hahn is holding out for Austin Meadows or Gleyber Torres, then Q will never be in New York or Pittsburgh. The truth
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Glad the 2B spot is now open for him. He deserves a shot at being regular IMO. +1
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) You don't trade Burdi until he's succeeded as closer for at least one year. See the Addison Reed and Santos deals (that both sucked). All things considered, the biggest value is in that second and third year before arbitration hits...but trading him in 2017 would be completely illogical. Like I said, relievers often don't long; could expire by the time the Sox need him. moving Reed absolutely was the right thing to do. They probably missed on Davidson, although I hope he gets a lot of playing time this year (which would require Frazier to be moved, which should happen). Williams gave Santos to the Jays, similar to E Jackson. Williams was not at his best in his later years as GM.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:31 PM) Why the f*** would we trade Burdi? Because they have no need for a closer for 2/3 more years and the shelf life of closers is notoriously short. I'm sure they won't trade him, but I think they should consider it
  15. They need to move him. There is not near enough talent in this organization yet to contend. Maybe Hahn can produce a miracle trading Frazier, Robertson and Jones, but I doubt it. And if Burdi pitches to his spring training reviews, he should be moved too.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) The Yanks look as though they want to see how their team performs before committing to a trading a haul of prospects for Q. I am curious if the news on Price has made Cashman take a step back to rethink his teams' chances of hanging with Boston this year. Best case scenario is Tampa and the Yanks stay competitive into June/July. This would keep Archer on the Rays and off the trade market add keep the Yanks in the mix for Q. Honestly, I think Cashman is discounting his own team too much. And even if they are a year away, that's well within Q's contract primetime.
  17. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) which would be better? having torres play 3rd and leaving Anderson at ss and having a sweet infield or moving Anderson to cf and being great up the middle? Moncada to CF
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 4, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Hayes is surprising some people. Wouldn't mind to see him get 1B/DH duties if Davidson doesn't do well to begin the year The Sox really will need a couple of the Hayes/Davidson types to stick. And then they need time to verify that they really are players. And that makes it even more critical to move these vets out.
  19. It's possible I suppose that they could play well for a month or two. But it's not sustainable. Now if they do, it's essential that the Front Office suppress its instincts and keep their head on the task at hand in the real world. That little dance in fantasy land last June was costly. The FO's main job between now and 7/30 is to dispatch the veterans. Stay focused, Hahn.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) Toughest thing about Price potentially going down is the sheer number of innings he gave the Red Sox. It's not easy to replace a guy who pitched 230 innings for you last season, even with internal options. Losing that workhorse hurts a ton if he misses any significant time I highly doubt they would get into the mix for Quintana. It would raid the rest of an already weakened farm system I would prefer the Sox not do a big trade with the Red Sox. We would have an overload of prospects from one farm system. How do the stock market guys put it when there's a lack of diversification - systematic risk or something like that? I'd rather pick through a different farm system. And I know that each individual prospect is individual evaluated. Still they have the same training the same development regimens- a little diversification would spread the risk, imo.
  21. This Will be the first international signing in which the Sox are in rebuild mode. So diving in doesn't necessarily represent a complete about-face regarding the prior approach. Remember just before the last signing period, the Sox traded their probably best international signee for James Shields; now that they're in rebuild mode, perhaps it is logical from the Sox perspective to put the money into player development and signings versus money into stop gap veterans. They are just shifting the resources to younger talent. The only real analytical stretch is that it assumes that the Front Office will act rationally, which they don't always do.
  22. The Yankees should make a move now, and get a head start on the now flawed RedSox by taking the only #1 level pitcher on the market right now. I think they have a pretty good team as it is. They have quality in the low minors which should appeal to the Sox on currrent timeline.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) How are they rebuilding at a snail's pace? They traded away 2 of their biggest assets within a day of each other. 3 trades in 2 trading periods, from a team with 8-10 players that need to be moved. Maybe not a snail, but not a greyhound either. On another topic, they should be working L Garcia. He's the real super sub, his O, while still dismal, has improved, and with some more improvement it would be acceptable for a super sub. The advantage of a guy like him is that he can take the position of the no-hit 4th OF and the no-hit utility infielder, saving a spot on the roster for another hitter, or, dare I suggest, actually platooning a LF or RF (when we get some platoonable players). Saladino should be 2B now. Well at this point, I suppose they should try to dress Lawrie up for 1/2 a season and see if they can get something for him, and then let Saladino handle 2nd full time.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) Maybe Hahns plan to get the top of the elite guys is flawed then? He should be trying to get quantity instead of quality? Thanks for making me doubt the whole damn rebuilding plan. He needs to get guys who haven't peaked, recognize talent, understand value, and be able to, at least to some extent, separate the real prospects from the frauds.
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 07:04 AM) Pass, don't really see the point. Might as well give a kid like Davidson those at-bats. Indeed Singing Alvarez makes no sense in the real world
