  1. I'm not worried about Q - there will be a market for him. But I'm looking at markets for the other guys (1/2 the pen, Frazier, Melky, maybe Holland/Gonzalez) all of whom need to get moved and might bring some value. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) AL Central: Tigers stay in the race, dont sell off Verlander or Zimmerman. Want the Royals to stay in the race as well; they would flood the market with supply if they are out of it. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) NL Central: Pirates challenge for a WC spot. Brewers and Reds to win games so we get a higher pick. Need the Cards to be in the race, but with the still gaping hole at 3rd. And pray Frazier has something left this year. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) NL West: Rockies tear it up. Padres get lucky on a lot of games. The Giants have big issues at bullpen and outfield that we could help. Need them to stay in the race, but with those issues still outstanding. I have my doubts though - Giants and Rangers were my flop picks for this year.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 10:43 PM) The jury's still far from out on Delmonico. Hayes, for that matter. That said, if he can't stick at 3rd, his chances go down quite a bit. Davidson as well. Each of these guys should be given an honest look. And why not? What else is there to do this season? Give Asche more pointless at bats? Drool over Todd Frazier?
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) I can guarantee that if Melky, Soto and Todd are better than replacement (and they should be) they will have value in July. Not a lot, but certainly would return like a B- prospect, especially if the Sox pay some freight. Stop worrying and enjoy the season. We can't lose really. If they suck, great, if they don't suck, that's cool too. They will have some value; but the best value is likely to be in A ball players, which I'd much prefer to stunted/low-ceiling AAA players*. And that's fine...the idea here is to build to contend yearly, and that requires a deep farm and low-minor players - something the Sox haven't shown much interest in over the years. *Sox already have a surplus of those...hopefully they can get them sorted out and a few turn out to be gems.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) We're like the Baltimore Orioles before they finally got good again. So many older, lousy players. Can't get too upset about this. Pelfrey is the type of pitcher they signed to round out the rotation when they were contending. But this idea of "flipping him" is la-la land stuff. They'll have hard enough time moving players with pulse like Frazier, Melky, Jones, and Robertson.....he's even behind the que of Holland, Gonzales and Shields. I doubt they move 4 of those guys.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 03:59 AM) Delvin Perez is five years away from bring MLB ready. I don't see the Cardinals as good fit in a trade That's okay. We're going for a steady stream of players. also, the Cards could probably use Robertson and Frazier.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 11:39 PM) OK I know nothing about baseball. You tell me that the team I'm about to describe isn't a contender AFTER our trades. 1B-Abreu (star). 2B - Saladino (Moncada in May, star). SS - Anderson (budding star). 3B - Frazier (good defense; great power just like Abreu). When Moncada comes up, Saladino super infield sub. OF - Melky (serviceable); RF - Avi (still has a chance of excelling). CF - May (awful, maybe a free agent aquisition for outfield if our organization would fricking pay pay pay). DH - Coulda acquired one in offseason for $$. Catcher-Coulda signed a free agent to go with Narvaez for $$ Bullpen - Robertson closer (good). Setup guys - Hit or miss, coulda acquired one for $$ to add to the setup crew. Starters: Q, Rodon, Shields, Gonzalez, Holland. (Once one of the guys we got from the Nats is ready to fill in, not half bad). So how dumb am I? I contend our team could have been a contender this season even with the trades. Without the trades, even more a contender with Sale and Eaton. But it would have required spending a little bit of fricking cash for an outfielder, a DH and a catcher. Excuse me for thinking a big city team might wanna spend some cash in free agency. The team you propose plays .500 if everything goes right. More likely, it wins 75 games. The rotation has a 1, a 3 and 3 5s The mistake was NOT rebuilding during the Ventura era (actually they did, but only for 1 season then they stopped) and waiting so late to finally start (the unconscionable Shields trade was in June). But that's water under the bridge. The team needed to be rebuilt and they're finally getting around to it and they need to be thorough about it (and yes, they need to get on with moving more players as only 3 have been moved and they can't abort it midstream like they did last time).
  7. Not that it matters, but what is the theory behind Cody Asche on the roster? 1200 PAs and .684 OPS. .298 OBP. Just that he hits left-handed?
  8. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) For the Cardinals to pull a deal off they are realistically looking at having to trade 3 of their top 5 prospects, plus another top 15 organizational prospect at a minimum due to a lack of high end prospects I really do not see that happening Probably not; but position-wise it could work out. One of their top guys is a C, and they are signing Molina for several more years. Another I think is a CF, and they have Fowler. Q would look good there.
  9. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) With the Sox committing to the rebuild, and the system's lack of impact position player talent (outside of Moncada and Collins), it almost feels like this is a race the Sox need to win... Absolutely Sign him.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:10 PM) Ugh, this quote hurts: While I don't believe his stock has risen that much, it really sucks that we gave up our best amateur signing under Paddy for James f***ing Shields. Pretty evident that SD had better scouting reports on him than we did. He was our own player and we can't evaluate him properly!
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) A 31 year old with a velocity jump? Sounds suspicious to me. Unusual, but the Sox are due for some luck like that.
  12. QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) I dont get it some times. Why dont you guys look at the teams involved? Lets highlight the Pirates and Astros. Do you guys think they operate the same as the Nationals or the Red Sox? Look at the history of Dombrowski and Rizzo. It was the perfect storm for Sale. We may never get there with Q unfortunately and it's up to the Sox then if they want to drop value/ keep him. I'd rather keep him past next offseason if he's still here. You have two teams trying to trade for Q who love their prospects. Maybe it'll change at the deadline. Beyond that the Astros can spend money. The Pirates are content with doing nothing. Astros have traded a lot of prospects...that may be the problem. Pirates don't trade prospects, I agree.
  13. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) Damn, wanted at least an A-ball for him. Cash trades are so strange to me. They seem to essentially just be favors. It does seem that way. Teams frequently give career minor leaguers to each other but not so much major leaguers. I would've cut him. The Sox weren't going to cut him. Yet they essentially give him away to Tampa. Why then was he around in the first place?
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) Yep, it's a gamble, but one worth taking. All the Sox need is for Q to be Q and the return will be bountiful enough but if he can get off to a career year kind of start, whoaaa mama! If that happens, look out for the arm-chair GM's that will say the Sox traded Sale too soon. It's possible for him to get a Sale return. But that would require a)no regression and b)limited supply of pitchers in July. I think those factors are far more likely to go against the Sox than move in the Sox favor.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) It's all about options though. Davidson, Leury, Sanchez, Ynoa will all be on the team because they don't have any options. I think Asche and Bourjos make it as well. Delmonico, Hayes, and May can all be optioned and probably will be. It's just a numbers game. yea, give Davidson a few more months...no harm. It also allows Delmonico to play every day and get his defense squared away. I don't see much purpose for Bourjos on the team; but no big deal. If May plays well in AAA for a month or 2, they can boot Boujos.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) And this is the exact downside to "blow it up". If it fails, we are talking years more of problems. A successful rebuild will still result in at least 1/2 of the prospects flopping. Gotta have the stomach for it. The Sox still have only moved 3 of the 10 or so players that they need to move. The drafts of the last 2 years and for the next 2 years, along with international signings (should they finally decide to seriously partake) are also part of the rebuild. And then when they are 4 or so spots away, they will bring in the FAs (versus doing it when they have only 4 spots internally filled). If it "fails" then that means the scouting and development remain subpar.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Tommy Kahnle is better than this dope. And the stats couldn't be more cherry picked. He's not (unless and until Kahnle does something about that 5.5BB/9). I agree they were.
  18. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) Reliever who got a minor-league deal/spring training invite from the Sox. 2015 MLB with the Twins: 8.78 K/9, 2.70 BB/9, 3.38 ERA, 3.32 SIERA 2016 AAA with the Yankees: 8.29 K/9, 1.54 BB/9, 3.86 ERA, 2.96 FIP 2016 MLB with the Yankees: 9.00 K/9, 2.03 BB/9, 5.52 ERA, 3.21 SIERA 2017 Spring Training with the Sox: 11.6 K/9, 1.9 BB/9, 3.86 ERA, 2.58 FIP Interesting pick-up. Those stats are a lot better than some of the other high K guys they have picked up like Kahnle (who they actually traded for). The K BB numbers seem better than the ERA. I wonder what the problem is - homer prone?
  19. I think someone nailed the Pirates problem above - they are in the same division as the Cubs, and would be doing this for a 1 game playoff. And Meadows is a must...their big pitching prospect is already showing holes. The Astros could use him, but they are strong without him and also this would take the last of their prime prospects that are anywhere near ready. They Astros have an interesting bullpen (headlined by KW's own Devinski who can through multiple innings, which is the vogue these days). They Braves could use him; I think they plan on competing in 2018, so the timing is good. Their prospects are a little further behind, but that's okay. The Yankees could use him; there is no reason to cede that division to the RedSox. They have the surplus prospects
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 07:56 AM) 23 isn't super old but it's not super young either. He might be one of those guys that develops at a later age. I hope he gets some time in Chicago this season. He's an interesting prospect for sure. Several 3B didn't really get it until they were 25+ (Donaldson, Frazier, e.g.) Let him play OF in the minors for a year; and if he can hit, there's a place for him. One thing he does is take walks, so that's hopeful.
  21. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Is Delmonico getting a bit overlooked as a potential good player for the White Sox? By the fans he probably has been. But the Sox haven't re-assigned him yet, so they're looking at him. I wonder if he has options issues - Davidson too.
  22. It looks like Hahn is making a push to move him prior to opening day. Makes sense. Spring training pitching is an all-you-eat buffet for AAAA hitters. You just can't make much of the hitting stats. Reed is fine as a throw-in, but he's got to show he can hit real pitching; and he's not in shape so it's not like we'd be getting a Konerko. He's a pudgy slugger type if he figures it out.
  23. QUOTE (Scoots @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) I think I heard some reporters saying they wanted Rodon to be the 5th day starter. If that's the case and I heard right, then i think Rodon would go to the bottom and it will be Q, MiGo, Shields, Holland, Rodon. Really, does it matter the order they put the rotation in after Q? lol. That would make 3 lefties in a row.
  24. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Q Rodon MiGo Shields Holland That's right. Forgot about Holland.
  25. Surprised by Fulmer; but I'm happy that they will give him additional time. I guess the Rule V guy is starter #5.
