QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) it doesn't help when three guys (Jones, Petricka, Putnam) who were supposed to be the back end of the pen cannot stay healthy That too (what I was calling back of the pen were the middle inning guys - Jones and Putnam at his best would have given the Sox quite the force in late innings with Kahnle, Robertson and Swarzak). But at this point, it should be about keeping Kahnle together and prepping Robertson and hopefully Swarzak for trade.

Not to hijack, but does anyone know the status of the young CF who was having a good year? L Garcia?

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Ynoa is consistent. Rick Hahn's boy. The guy he insisted that Oakland give us along with Shark. Ynoa has had flashes but probably not a keeper. Beck holmberg and Minaya are work horses, over-used it seems to me in order to protect and keep fresh Kahnle, Swarzak and Robertson (and for good reason). Some of the former trio could be back of the pen keepers. The general inability of any starter besides Q to get 6 innings has resulted in throwing some of these guys to the wolves.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) Landing one of Frazier/Rutherford + one of Sheffield/Adams/ + Andujar + Abreu would be a great deal Excellent article and those are good possibilities. It's really a shame that they lost 2 of their top prospects to injury; unfortunate for those guys, and makes it tougher to trade the prospects they have left.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) With what we have gotten out of Smith and Narvaez so far this year, should the White Sox put in a claim on Miguel Montero? 0f course not. But old (often bad) habits die hard.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) What I'm not seeing with Hanson is the ceiling to justify the kinds of rankings he was getting as a MiLBer with non-great production. Maybe not, but he's played really well for the Sox and I'd like to see him play regularly. That will require moving Frazier/Melky which hopefully happens soon.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) Yep but the org supposedly loves him They seem to, but it's hard to understand why. He's never been very good.

June 26th Game Thread: White Sox vs. Yankees
GreenSox replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) This is the result of the team in the AL with the worst record. And also of a team in the first year of a rebuild. Get used it boys...although I do think this will be the most painful of it. Once the veterans leave, we will at least have the pleasure of seeing the youngns develop. The only thing that will make this whole thing just awful will be to see the farm players just tank. That would really just be awful and what I am most worried about lol. They're not even rebuilding yet...it's still in the tear-down phase. A lot of the clowning is coming from veterans who, hopefully, will be gone in a month. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:15 AM) The Astros have benefitted (Devenski, McHugh) but also gave up Robbie Grossman and JD Martinez for virtually nothing. They also traded Domingo Santana, who has become a valuable player this year for the Brew Crew. They whiffed on Singleton but still absorbed all of these losses to the offensive depth chart. Another great example is Aaron Hicks with the Yankees this year, or the contract Jean Segura just secured. Obviously Quintana remains the best recent White Sox move of this ilk. (Fwiw, Jake Marisnick remains the one "bridge/transition" player it would be a coup to get from the Astros, but I highly doubt the stars align.) One difference is that the Astros are continuously churning out talent from their farm. They can make trades and overcome mistakes. there are a ton of ex Cubs who are really productive as well. Hendry could find talent, but he coughed it up. and that's why seemingly small moves for unheralded prospects need to be made...they only way you find a Devenski is to put yourself in a position to find a Devenski.

When the Sox are ready to contend in 2019/2020, who is the manager?
GreenSox replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Whoever it is, loyalty to be the first priority when selecting a manager. -
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) Q has won 4 games this year. I don't think trading him woulds turn into a freefall. Now trading the 2-3 relievers would. Hopefully Frazier gets traded but he is not really blocking a young player other than Saladino who I think they have soured on anyway. Delmonico is struggling defensively at AAA and probably needs till September and even then may be forced to DH. The team withstood Q's slow start because Holland et al were able to go 5 or 6 innings and the bullpen was great. But these starters are lucky to get 4 innings these days, which puts more pressure on this pen. Losing Q, will accelerate that significantly. But so be it...just hope they move some relievers as well and get this tear-down wrapped. Frazier is taking at bats from someone every day he plays. So is Melky. The Sox have young guys on the bench who could get more at bats, more time in the field (Frazier plays 3rd half the time; Melky plays left every day). Neither is very good and I hope they are both shipped out shortly.

For all of the Orioles pitching problems, they just gave Parker Bridwell to the Angels earlier this year...having a very nice year. And they traded Ariel Miranda to the Mariners last summer, for the hopelessly mediocre Wade Miley. Wish the Orioles were in a buying position...Sox have a couple of starters who fit nicely in the Miley mode.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) Sox are gonna be really, really bad without Frazier/melky/quintana and a bullpen and likely regression from at least a few of our breakout guys (Sanchez, Leury, Davidson, etc.) So there could be a serious push for #1 overall Losing Q would push this team into freefall; and losing 2 of the top 3 relievers (Robertson, Kahnle, Swarzak) would accelerate it. But it needs to be done. As for Melky and Frazier, they aren't very productive, are blocking development of younger players, and need to go.

One effect of this is that the team in Helena is moving to Colorado Springs, so that will put more travel pressure on the Voyagers.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 11:57 PM) I think the Sox may cut bait with Shields. Renteria did not look happy when he went out to the mound to pull him and I am sure that Sox brass was not all too thrilled with Shields laying an egg on Buerhle day with 38,000 in the stands. And they shouldn't be. But as they say, the brass has no one to blame but themselves.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 09:11 PM) Hope Holland is good, but Gray is better Sunday. Nah, need Gray's trade value to flatten.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Great news for the Sox. Don't want them selling Vargas or Herrera You teeter totter effect, though: KC no longer sellers, but it causes the Jays to become sellers.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) our system still has a ways to go imo Yep They sure had Jake Dunning take one for the team...pitched to nine batters and recorded zero outs.

I'd be surprised if the Sox were offered any of these deals in July - even if Q were pitching more consistently. He's more of an off-season trade; unless he throws well the next month and there are no other pitchers of his abilities on the market. It's tough for teams to give up the talent that matches the value; it's easier when players are on their walk year or the year before.
-
QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) Okay, I know there is already a Q thread out there somewhere, but this one is fresh and up to date. So, let's say Q restores his value and has a couple more outstanding starts. Considering the moves the Sox have made, with a future 3B/DH in Davidson/Burger, SS in Anderson, 2B in Moncada, 1B in Abreu (He isn't going anywhere), Catcher in Collins and loads of pitching prospects, their infield is pretty well set for the future. You could even throw Yolmer and Leury in there. You got Robert in Center and Avi in right, plus if you want to put Engel as a starting outfielder you could, too early to tell with him. Don't know what we have with Tilson either. With all that said, who are YOU trading for in Q? You can never have enough pitching in my opinion, so I say another pitcher and an outfielder who can hit, at least, maybe a catcher as well. Yolmer and Leury are playing like major leaguers right now. And they play with plus defense, a rare feat in these parts. I'm not sure that those are the 2 to be pushed out. Collins is progressing but no cinch. Abreu's contract expires before this team is likely to contend. Sox still have a lot of tearing-down/dispersal/jettisoning to do. As for Q, I don't have any sense of what the offers are now. But once Q is gone, the pressure on the pen is going to be unreal. Trade the tradeable guys out of the bullpen first.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Realistically, the expectations I have are that the free agent crowd gets dealt, as well as Q and Robertson. After that, who knows. Mine are the same, although I would think Q is doubtful at this point. Robertson is essential.
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) Now that the Sox have corrected his mechanics, let's trade him to Detroit for Iglesias. Yikes!
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) I think it would be hard to turn down a package headlined with a guy like Frazier and other pieces that had high ceilings. Expecting more than that is gambling that Q is going to rebuild his value and you can move him next year. Even then, you might not do much better than that. I'd take it. Agree.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:41 AM) Exactly. And we didn't want George Springer last year because he had like 4+ years control remaining. Why should we keep Avi with only 2? One reason is that this looked like a real start from scratch operation last fall. Now, all of a sudden, the Sox have a young 2B, a young 3B, a young CF (staying power, TBD), a young 8th/9th inning reliever. As for Avi, no reason to keep him to keep him. Not sure what the "sweet spot" is in terms of balancing his value based on his current play v. the likelihood of it continuing. If no offers with at least 1 legitimately good prospect offered, they could revisit this next year, with still 1.5 years remaining and a full year and a half of quality play under his belt. Or they could extend him. And if he falls off the cliff, not much would be lost anyway.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 11:37 PM) We're five games out. Had the team tinkered instead of done the so called rebuild we might win the division this year. Sale went 13; Trout was what 23rd? Who gives a flip about the draft? We're five games out and never gave the team a chance with a real manager, not Robin. Any tinkering likely would not have kept Avi around; and for sure no Davidson and L Garcia would be unlikely as well in a "go for it" year. In fact they might've been traded for more veterans- some young players certainly would have. And it's highly unlikely those veterans would have performed anywhere near the level these guys are performing.
