**7/10 Game Thread: White Sox vs Braves**
GreenSox replied to Brian's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) I can't wait until Avi never wears a Sox jersey again. Why isn't Saladino DHing right now again? Good question -
We could get a mediocre reliever easily. Just offer Saladino or Sanchez and he's ours. Not to get people too excited, but the Brewers have a couple of guys in their 30s who could be ours. Of course, that's the last thing a sensible organization would do....

Avi At DH again; won't even give him a day off. Saladino has as many homers in 40% of the at bats. -
David Robertson didn't pitch in a 1 run save situation
GreenSox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) Yea, Robertson isn't that good, but the Cubs could use him in their shoddy bullpen. I'd trade Robertson for Schwarber hoping he can DH and platoon at first base next year. That would be the gift of all gifts. -
Is Delmonico hurt? I notice he hasn't played in 2 weeks. Charlotte is mostly AAAA players these days. Peter seems to be adapting to AAA pretty well. Engel is getting things together in Birmingham as well. Luis Martinez has been solid his last 4 games in Kanny.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 10:32 PM) What kind of package for Quintana and Frazier? Quintana - 2As and a B; or an A and 2/3 Bs. Plus a couple of lagniappe low level guys. Prob not enough Frazier - B and a C

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) They haven't been moving "their better prospects". They have been moving second and third tier guys. Tim Anderson is here. Carlos Rodon is here. Tyler Saladino is here. Carson Fulmer is still in the system. Steven Adams is still in the system. Yes, Hahn saved his scant few A prospects, just like any decent organization would. He hasn't traded for A level veteran talent either. But he's sent away a lot of Bs. And he has far fewer Bs than other orgs. Far fewer. And yes, I know yall know how I feel. Yall post the same trade ideas, and I post the same objections and suggest saving the Sox prospects. There is no trade of which you can conceive that will make the Sox legitimate world series contenders. No gaggle of Brewers or Cargo will put this team into the World Series. The Sox budget is competitive...IF you have a core of young talent. The Sox don't have near enough to take starting jobs; and another effect of trading the Bs, is that Hahn squanders some of his budget on utility infielders and AAAA pitchers, when your B prospects could take those spots.

My requisite post The Sox will never get anywhere if they keep moving their better prospects for 1-2 year veterans who have reached peak. Yes, it will meet the Williams/Hahn mythical "3 (now 2) year window" and it obviously would excite fans. But the Sox won't win. Some teams can do this sort of thing...those with stocked farms. The Sox system is thin, including, despite claims to the contrary, pitching. Looking for a catcher is particularly bad idea, as the marginal value of a catcher upgrade isn't as great as, say, the marginal value of a hitter, but the cost would be much higher.

Montas still there; Happ in the 30s. What does BA know? Just read the Rick Hahn thread...several posts in there detailing the meteoric rise in the quality of the organization.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) How does a 1 year, $3 million signing qualify as one of the worst? I mean I get the guy sucked at all, but it had so little impact on the franchise he was released long before the end of the season. I would agree that it wasn't one of his worst moves. But wasting $3 million for no reason has an opportunity cost..that money could put elsewhere...the organization, certain bonuses, for example.

Carlos Gonzalez expresses interest to be traded
GreenSox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) Everyone knows there is a hangover effect from playing at Coors. Combine that with the fact that most hitters perform better at home than on the road to begin with and it's absolutely ridiculous to simply spout off a guy's road OPS and say he's not a good hitter. Not surprising in the least it me GreenSox making this argument. Be precise. I said that his road OPS is about what Rios' OPS was, and simply suggested he has equal value (especially as his salary is about twice as high). It wasn't I who set the.752 OPS value at Leury Garcia. Sure most players hit better at home....but most players do NOT have the split differentials Cargo has. Comparisons with Holiday are ridiculous. Holliday had road OPS >.800 in each of his last 3 years in Colorado, including .892 his last year. Cargo's are in the .750 range. And he's older than Holliday was. And his D is poor. And he's paid nearly $20 million a year. Of course I'm getting attacked. I always get attacked when suggesting that trading for players at or past their prime, especially those with bad splits, won't help the team win...and it's doubled down when it involves a fave like Cargo or anyone on the Brewers. -
Danish is getting his head handed to him. But he's only 21...maybe a return to Birmingham is in order.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) I guess not everyone takes a fun game like baseball as seriously as White Sox fans. While we're here, the time clock system is awesome and made the Home Run Derby enjoyable for the first time since Griffey and Thomas. It depends on one's definition of fun. I like watching baseball. Home run derby is just batting practice. Sure the time clock makes it exciting...it's like watching a sprint v. a jog.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) Could be other factors we just don't know. We don't know. My numbers are probative, but prove nothing. But why take the chance for something as daft and ridiculous as home run derby? What's the priority? Fun and games, or winning a division? Frazier has just been getting his complete offensive game together. I will also point out that the rules changed last year to a time clock system, which requires significantly more energy.

Carlos Gonzalez expresses interest to be traded
GreenSox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here we go. Knew this was coming .750 OPS away from Coors field in 2016; .758 in 2015. That's Rios. Hahn set that value: Leury Garcia. (really should be less considering that Rios made 60% of Cargo's money) Paying anything more than the value of a .758 OPS earning $20 million a year is wishcasting. That's all it is. If we want a Rockie, get Blackmon -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) I have yet to see Joe Maddon asked about the White Sox, nor have I seen Jake Arrieta asked about Chris Sale. Even if this were going on, it would legitimize this a little bit more in my eyes. Early in the season, someone asked Maddon about the Sox hot start and he said something like "I can dig it." But that's about all I saw. Yes to some extent this Cubs infatuation is driven by the audience, but also the media drives the audience withs 30 years of Cubs hyperbole.

Sox/Charlotte starting pitcher Kameron Loe back in action

Maybe so. -
Rush em on up.

Much deserved. Congrats to Sale. Q deserved a spot as well. Yost picks bullpen pitchers having fluke years instead. Oh well.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) Honestly, anyone listening to you would have a terrible team on the field and would trade away any and all players before they turn 25. Except Saladino Incorrect. I wouldn't trade for old guys until a young core is built. I never said my team would win right now. It wouldn't. How's Rick's team doing in that regard, when he's trying to win? QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) Rodons development is fine, he shows flashes of dominance and then falls back to some bad habits. I'm disappointed he hasn't taken the same step we saw in his first year where he straight up dominated down the stretch, but I'm sure that doesn't matter to you because that doesn't fit your narrative that he hasn't progressed at all. My point is that he's developing while service time is ticking. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) Cooper hasn't been getting the most out of his pitchers the past couple years, I won't argue that, but your assertion that he is pretty much worthless is tiring and incorrect. You say the same damn thing all the time, we get it. You don't like Cooper and Hahn. I was and am very complimentary of Hahn's work prior to the winter of 2014. He doubled the core in less than a year. For some reason, he started trading for rents, players at or past their peak, free agents, spending a million here, a million there on utility infielders and AAAA pitchers, before a core was built. And those trades weren't nearly as savvy as his early trades, respecting that some early trades didn't work out. At this point, I hope that Morneau works out and that Hahn successfully rushes Fulmer or Burdi into the pen. Because he's not going to sit still with this team.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Instant gratification is rare in MLB. David Price is a guy Rodon has been compared to often. He struggled his first full year in TB, then took off. It's coming with Rodon, but it is weird that those who want total rebuilds have zero patience. it's the Sox who were impatient by rushing him up*. That's the annoyance. *(or maybe Boras made Hahn do it - whatever).

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) Most teams will take a pitcher like fulmer and start him if nothing else to huild his arm up to handle an MLB pen load. The upside could be that he ends up bring a starter. Fulmer was a top 10 pick. Starter should be the expectation, not the upside. Winning organizations do not use top 10 picks for bullpen expectations. Sox passed on best college hitter in the draft, so I certainly hope that 3 or above Starter was and is the expectation. Bullpen for #26 is dubious proposition itself, But for a top 10, it's ridiculous. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) There wasn't a need. There was an agreement to move him quickly as a part of his signing for what he signed for. Then pick someone else. As said above, it's unreasonable to expect him to be an ace right now. But the clock is still ticking. The value of 6 years of a top of the rotation guy, is now down to 3 or 4 because 2 or 3 years of service time are used for development. And, at least in 2015, he should have been used in Chicago like he would have been used in the minors...development, including getting that change-up fixed as the priority over getting the next guy out. But that's hard to do in the majors. And it wasn't done. And it's understandable. Major league coaches are there to help pitchers get the next batter out...not to develop for 2 years from now. And you wonder why I'm frustrated with this front office?

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) They should trade for Alex Rios to play catcher. I can't wait for the Cargo rumors to heat up. Look forward to all of the drooling, oogling, genuflection and five player package suggestions for the player who can't outhit Rios outside of Coors field. I'll go ahead and suggest L Garcia right now. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) It is a bit weird that they'd protect Carroll over Hector Sanchez. Why would any other MLB team want Carroll desperately? Despite all the MLB pitchers we've gone through, we still haven't used Carroll or Turner. So now we're going to have to sacrifice Narvaez to the wolves. Not that he was a top prospect or anything. Reminds us, though, that stowing away the A+/AA Cuban catcher from the Nationals for an entire year had ZERO payoff at all. He's where he would be invaluable...or would have been, that experience. There was no need to protect Carroll, except that the org. likes him. Sox have 5 Carrolls in Charlotte. Turner has gotten shelled in Charlotte. Yes, they could have stashed any number of catchers..but they still shouldn't have any problem finding some guy who can at least catch.
