Here's a Sherman article Urias is available for Sale http://nypost.com/2016/07/25/dodgers-would...ris-sale-talks/

QUOTE (bruni @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Yankees take the entire haul received from Cubs for Chapman, add #2 overall catching prospect Gary Sanchez AND Pineda (Coop will fix him!) for Sale. Sox immediately solve long term catching issue with Sanchez and most recent #1 Collins, get stronger up the middle in time with McKinney and Rashard Crawford, acquire stud middle infielder Torres (who I would convert into a 2B) and have both Warren and Pineda to bolster starting pitching staff. Pass. I wish some NL teams would get into the game here...but it doesn't appear that they will. Houston and Boston look like the possibilities. Those 2 teams have the GMs most willing to pay a haul (edge there to Boston, but Houston has certainly paid high prices for players recently). And they have position prospects. Prefer a position headliner to pitcher because, in the end, what do we want out of the pitching...another Sale or Q? Well, we have that bird in the hand. And I'd rather Sale/Q pitch for Houston...it will be a touch nauseating seeing either with Boston. Arenado has 3 years left after this year; same as Sale. You have to get some quantity if you're dealing Sale...ML ready prospects and some lower guys. Plus, the Frazier-Arenado upgrade is much less than the Sale-AAAA pitcher downgrade will be.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) I've been saying for a while guys, the perfect deal is Sale and Robertson to the Red Sox for Rodriguez, Swihart, Moncada, Benintendi, Devers, and Kopech. Red Sox get 6 years of control between the 2. A top tier closer and a top 5 pitcher in the game. Sold

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) In a situation this extreme, there's no point in fighting perception. Due to his value being a bit tarnished by perception/name recognition/win total, etc., the Sox are just not going to get enough value in a Quintana trade to make it worthwhile. No GM is going to empty his farm system for a name that doesn't fully energize the fan base. Sale on the other hand... That's an argument to trade Sale. If done right, it could be a great move. A question, though, do the Whitesox value Q at almost the level of Sale? Are the pricetags similar? I hope they are.
-
Seeing that massive price, the market might quickly be flooded with relievers. You've got to move on these things.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) Red Sox on various other forums think he'll be a salary dump only lol They might have to pick up some salary to move some of these players....which is another fly in the ointment: will JR allow that? Robertson gets 1/2 of what Chapman will bring.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 06:56 AM) Anyone hear the Heyman interview on Mulley & Hanley this morning? My Cubs buddy claims he said that Quintana gets you half of what Sale does. Can anyone verify that? If true, then definitely deal Sale and hold onto Q. That tells me that Sale would bring super value. He's the one to move. An opportunity to completely reshape things and goodness knows things need reshaping. Q might fit in better with a retooling, if not rebuilding, team anyway. If the Sox think Swithart can catch, he (plus a couple of upside guys from the lower minors) might be good for one of the lesser pieces. I'd really like to see Gonzalez mow down the Cubs tonight...nothing like a good garbage heap flip (a la Pomeranz)
-
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 01:27 AM) If that's the deal then keep our pitchers. I only want either pitcher moved if it's a clear overpay like the Shelby Miller deal. Otherwise no reason to give them away. Q is nearly as valuable as Sale and I would demand Mazara/Profar/Gallo or Benintendi/Devers/Moncada as a starting point for either pitcher (and I don't even like Gallo that much, I like Odor way more). Otherwise we can wait for a lesser team desperate enough to give up their whole farm system. There are overpays and then there are Shelby Miller overpays. The Sox can reasonably expect to receive an overpay offer, which I am sure they will, if they haven't already. Maybe they get lucky...but you have to be open for business to enable the luck. It's getting late in the day.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Quintana and Robertson to Boston for Benintendi, Devers, Swihart, and Kopech is fair for both teams with BoSox paying DRob. That's realistic for both sides., although WSox may have to throw in another player. Betts is on a trajectory to being a truly elite hitter. They aren't trading him.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) I'm just gonna go ahead and make a wish list on the Sox deadline movement: Trade with Red Sox: Boston gets: Chris Sale, David Robertson, Zach Duke Chicago gets: Yoan Moncada, Andrew Benintendi, Blake Swihart, Rafael Devers, Michael Kopech, Eduardo Rodriguez, Travis Lakins Trade with Dodgers: Los Angeles gets: Jose Quintana Chicago gets: Julio Urias, Jose De Leon, Alex Verdugo, Starling Heredia Trade with Rangers: Texas gets: Jose Abreu, Melky Cabrera, Brett Lawrie, James Shields, cash Chicago gets: Rougned Odor, Luis Ortiz Trade with Astros: Houston gets: Todd Frazier Chicago gets: Kyle Tucker, Gilberto Celestino Obviously not all of this will happen, but it's fun to imagine how stacked our farm can be after selling. I like each for the Sox. But I don't think any would be acceptable to the other team.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) Found it kind of curious the Sox brought up Sanchez for the 26th man . Thought a reliever ,who Robin probably doesn't use anyway, might have been brought up considering the dire straits the Sox pen was in. I thought that it weird that they add Sanchez or #26 and then play him, when he's going to go right back down. Ventura had relievers he didn't use. He only has 5 relievers he has any trust in at all.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 10:51 PM) The issue is that in all other ballparks the clubhouse guy controls all the money and after buying the food and such distributes it to the other clubhouse staff. In this case he only controls 40% while the team controls 60%. The white sox want their dues and tips to stay in under clubhouse control not going to the team to control. Essentially the team is determining who gets the tips not the clubhouse manager. I can't believe people have a problem with the players sticking up for the "little guys" in the clubhouse. The players want their tips to go to the guys for which they are intended. Not guys - guy. Under the system they like, one guy" controls 100%. He determines what the other little guys get. But I understand - the money is meant for the clubhouse attendants, not for the owners. They should at least put the money in escrow....or pay no dues, but pay the equivalent of dues + tip all as tip, which the clubhouse manager gets which he would dutifully disperse.
-
never mind
-
Another goosegg, but for Great Falls.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) So the clubhouse manager collects all dues and tips, then redirects 40 percent(!!!!) to himself, and the Sox are jerks for saying that is bulls***? Under the system that they like, the clubhouse manager controls 100% of the dues and tips; he uses it to buy the food and give money to the underlings. Under what they don't like, the clubhouse manager takes 40% for himself, and then the organization takes the 60% to guy food and pay the underlings. I don't know if the are right or wrong, but concentrate on baseball, please.
-
It was also his 3rd appearance in under 24 hours. One thing that needs to be prioritized over the next week is protecting player value. If you have to use one of these bottom bullpen guys, so be it. Winning this game is not the organizational priority right now. Jones is another one who has been pitched 5/6 days.
-
This organization is just stunning.
-
I'd like to trade Sale before Q. Sale's the ace; but he should bring a lot more...a lot to rejuvenate the team. Q is signed for one more year and will help while rebuilding and then after rebuilt. I also like his smooth delivery - looks like he can pitch til he's 35 or 40. A good steady arm while rebuilding. And then too much drama around Sale.
-
I'm not on Sale's side. He needs to show more maturity. It was an internal matter and mgt should have handled it internally. They don't have to air all the dirty laundry.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 01:58 AM) I'll back a player like Chris Sale over our s*** management team anyday. Yep That said, they need to trade him (and a bunch of others). But they probably should wait until they bring in a professional front office.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 12:04 AM) there are still rumblings that he wasn't sent home and rather left on his own Sox need to grab that and keep up the hard spin that they sent him home. They need to take one for the "maintaining trade value" team on that one.
-
QUOTE (Green Line @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 11:48 PM) He's a loyal guy? Is that was he was being during Spring Training when he publicly threw his boss under the bus and embaressed the organization? He was loyal to Drake, I suppose. He'd probably feel a lot more loyal if management had assembled a competent team, especially given that he's earning under-market. He might be asking to be traded for all I know...that can lead to tension too. He's certainly not disloyal, but loyalty stuff can be overblown. Dick is right. He's a jerk for doing what he did. But you don't send him home - what is this, high school suspension time?
-
No he's not justified; but the team stinks, there are swirling trade rumors. Tensions are clearly going to be high. Where is the leadership to stop this from escalating? Any leadership at all from other players, the manager or the general manager to simmer things down; or to proactively address these things? Just another manifestation of organizational dysfunction. And if the beef is with Williams, well that's likely because his underlings who should handle these things, don't. He had to handle the Laroche mess; Ventura couldn't handle his own clubhouse; we know Rick Hahn wasn't going to do anything.
-
The system went 0-7 about to be 0-8. I realize that's an incomplete reflection of the overall talent. But the horrific nature of these teams (all but Great falls are awful or worse) might say something about system depth. And you really shouldn't do this to your affiliates.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) They lack impact guys in my opinion They certainly lack impact guys near the majors. As do most teams really. Pirates would be interesting. While his salary would work with their low payroll, they need their prospects to be able to consistently field a winner.
