How in the world could Pedro have impressed anyone in an interview? Did he have a ventriloquist behind a curtain or something?
-
the same time they fire Pedro.....i.e. perhaps next season.

What's their objection?

5/24 Sox vs. Orioles & Umps 6:40PM CT

Another productive game from Julks, the team's best hitter since he's been here. We'll see if Pedro benches him again. -
Okay, but where does Lee rank in clubhouse leadership, grinding and pillaring?
-
Of course, none of this would’ve happened had The Pillar not popped the ball up in the clutch…
-
Corey Julks rakes in 2 games, then sits on the bench. Gee, what a surprise that is out of Pedro.

5/22 - 6:07pm - White Sox ( suck ) vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Hopefully it makes no sense going forward. But they went “safe” with their top 10 pics, with the 1 winner being the universally acclaimed best player in the draft. They haven’t gone safe out of the top 10, until last year. The reason may have been Hostetler who was in charge when the Sox were picking top 10. He, like Hahn, seemed to lack creativity. -

The Pillar doesn't come through. Meanwhile the team's hottest hitter has rode the bench 2/3 games. -
So we have Sheets at DH, The Pillar in LF, and Pham in CF. And the three new guys share time in RF. Is that the plan?

In the "I didn't realize that he was still in baseball, but I'm glad he is" department, Carson Fulmer has thrown 21 2/3 innings for the Angels with 2.91 ERA. Decent 1.29 WHIP, and it would be lower, but for the familiar 5.4 BB//9

Certainly, but there's no rush. He's one of their few remaining trade pieces and they need to get it right. Dude was painting the corners at 100 MPH, so it should be a big return.
-
Teams will also have an eye for him as a starter for next season, so the Sox should really take their time to extract maximize value. And there are still questions about his control, so waiting will provide more surety.

Pitching is thin at most colleges - that "P5" stuff doesn't mean much in baseball (and to the extent that it does, it's P4 in baseball). They play good competition at Wilmington. I don't know whether he plays multiple positions because he can or because he plays no position well. But apparently he can hit, and there's certainly room for that.

"Beni is a consistent pillar in our lineup. He [Fletcher] has to wait for an opportunity and take advantage of it.'" Pedro Grifol Veterans are given their playing time; young players must earn it. Believe in Pedro.
-
Is there even room in the Birmingham rotation for him? Sox have probably 10 starting pitching prospects who are looking really good.
-
The money is eaten; it's gone and is not coming back. They have to do something. Because this is ridiculous. They need to eat Pedro's contract as well - he's also ridiculous. it's an insult to the players for him to manage.
-
No, the complex doesn’t need any money. .

Send Benitendi to Arizona. If he still can’t figure anything out there, the Sox are still better off. Vaughn can go with him.

To bring players in, you have to move players out. There will always be a list if he's doing his job. The affectation with Bryan Shaw cost the Sox. They chose him over Chavez out of the Spring, and Chavez is having another good year with the Braves. They then dumped Jose Rodriguez, who is really the only really lamentable cut they've made (in my eyes) to keep Shaw, only to cut Shaw a few days later. Trading for Bailey Horn was silly; cutting him shouldn't make much difference. As for his other trades, trading Mena was a bad move. Cease return was a bit disappointing; but perhaps it was overhyped and there was a some doubt thanks to a so-so 2023. With an inexperienced GM who also really didn't have the background for the job, not terrible.
-
I felt better about this, once informed that the young pitcher we dispatched was a reliever; loss of relievers really isn't lamentable (unless traded for a wife-beater). Julks had a solid minor league career and wasn't terrible with the Astros last season - a lot of good players start off with a year like he had. With the Sox, so far, so good. But for sure we should pick up any Astro named K/Corey.
-
I would be surprised if Pedro is fired this season. And they'll win some games against Toronto. They're not the Yankees and they'll have to face our 2 good starters.
-
Just looking at the rosters of the winning teams across the league, it's amazing how many sub .700 hitters each has. It's generally 50%+. Now they have a couple of guys who are raking, but, man, it wouldn't take that much to be competent offensively, on a relative basis.

I wonder what the skipper's reasoning was in wheeling Flexen out there in the 5th to face Soto and Judge, after he had given up a homer to Babe Berti in the 4th. And then after the single to Soto, he still won't make a move. Any of those relievers he used to mop up the rest of the game would have made more sense. It's like he doesn't even watch the game and how it is proceeding.
