  1. They can work on that.
  2. What exactly has Ventura done to earn an extension? He ran a clubhouse that was nothing but a clown act for 3 years. Williams had to play the heavy in the Laroche situation. The clubhouse finally got serious, but not because of Ventura. And his decision making has never been what one would call state-of-the-art.
  3. He very well may be turning it around. He has talent. Sometimes it takes time. We'll see. Even elite players like Todd Frazier didn't pull it together until 25 or 26.
  4. This is clearly the year to take a big plunge into the international markets. This is where to spend the Laroche windfall. can't say I'm surprised they have no interest in doing that. Building an org. isn't part of the' contrived "2 year window".
  5. At least Gonzales and Johnson showed something - good K numbers - may be something to work with. neither pitched the Sox out of the game (maybe it was lucky they didn't, but they didn't). Carroll has an ERA in excess of 12 and a WHIP in excess of 3 in Charlotte. Ridiculous.
  6. And the answer is Trayce Thompson, Avisail Garcia, Marcus Semien. What is name 3 players out-hitting the "elite" Todd Frazier, Alex. But please trade 4 more young players for another proven veteran, Kenny Hahn. Even though it is a proven counterproductive strategy, it gives fans temporary succor and allows them to "dream again"
  7. I can't figure out who to root for in the Central, other than the Twins. So I guess beating each other up is the best thing for the Sox.
  8. Look at the Mariners. Prior GM adds Cano and Cruz and do nothing. New GM works around the edges, fixes the defense and pen, and they're good again. San Diego last year acquired all sorts of downside veterans, cleaning out the farm in the process. Board favs like Kimbrall, Kemp...can't go wrong. Well, they stunk. Boston added Panda and Ramirez and they blew. Sat one, put the other at first, and used young players, and they contend again. They added Price, and he's stunk. The Sox this year...the big differences are Lawrie and Jackson - fixing the defense and adding some incremental offensive improvement. And yet the lust to trade everything for the "star" goes on unabated.
  9. I thought they cut Suiter. Maybe I misread that.
  10. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) He made it sound like there's a bunch of players who come over to the Sox and suddenly have a huge dropoff in their walk numbers, but I can't find a single example of a player who did that. You're right...sometimes it's the batting average that takes the 50 point drop instead. From a macro perspective: Ritchie Swisher Samardzija Edwin Jackson (to be fair he was never any better than mediocre; and he was mediocre with the Sox just like with everyone else). Vasquez - see Jackson Dunn Laroche And, dare I suggest, Frazier., so far...hopefully he turns around. But as of now, Trayce is out-hitting him. So is Lawrie, who didn't cost Trayce et al. The only ones that produced were Thome and Garcia and those were still dubious trades (Thome "allowed" KW to get rid of Frank - while produced .100 OPS points less than Thome, we were stuck with Anderson/Mackowiak instead of Rowand; Garcia was a rent...we could have signed him as a FA). Robertson is excellent and several smaller acquisitions have been pure gold. And yet people are convinced that another blockbuster transaction is the golden key. It's madness. Heck, look what happened to the Astros after their acquisition of 2 "Elite" pieces, who suddenly aren't so elite.
  11. Sox offensive weakness is the 2 hole...they need someone who can get on base. While longing for the Sox to decimate the farm to acquire the next over the hill or bad-splits slugger, no one seems bothered about Rollins' .636 OPS in the 2 hole (if he were a rookie instead of 38 people would be going crazy about it). That's one less runner for Abreu and Frazier (hopefully) to drive in. Now they could correct that to some extent by moving Lawrie to the 2 hole, but they'd lose something in the mid-back of the order.
  12. Low batting average and high walks...and when they come to the Sox, they keep the low batting average and forget how to walk. 36 and in decline. It's sure to work this time.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) As always, if you are curious about a White Sox prospect, first stop can be the Prospect Profiles page on Future Sox. Here's the profile on Danny specifically. Pretty foretelling write-up there, North. Nice.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2016 -> 06:21 AM) Speaking of poorly conceived trades, your trading Adam Eaton for prospects because he wasn't as good as his numbers and doesn't have the arm for RF will go down as an all time worst. Yes and that's the kind of trade I support and I have consistently supported. Young player for young player....not for a declining vet or a a rent of a career year. Of course I take the good with the bad. You're still whining about losing Addison Reed, which was same philosophy as the Eaton trade. Myers was a decling veteran who wasn't anything special in Houston.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 4, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) Would Julio Teheran cost Tim Anderson? Tehran is a mid rotation guy who would help more to get to the playoffs than in the playoffs. That may be his price but it's too much. Such trades of course rarely help and usually cause harm. But that doesn't stop the exuberance for them. Heck no one is even talking about Frazier, the super super slugger, and his Dunn-like output.
  16. Bassit is a back of the rotation guy. His absence "hurts" is because we're auditioning a few guys for 5th starter likely worse than he is. (and because we went a long time with Danks and Noesi). But, not he's not great talent. This all in stuff for a "star" is generally a poor and losing approach and the net return for the Sox on those trades is atrocious (and yet the Sox keep making them). Gio was the only really good pitcher. Hudson was really good, but got hurt. The next may be Chris Deveniski (sent packing in yet another poorly conceived Williams trade). And the plus side is of the Shark trade is that we have ceiling on our side. Although the odds are slim, we could hit it big with this draft choice.
  17. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ May 3, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Just let em stay, no where to move up to. Let them build their stats and make better trade bait. It would be nice if we could start pulling some of these guys up to the Whitesox and they produce. The only one I think has the possibility is Delmonico, but he needs AAA.
  18. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 3, 2016 -> 05:13 AM) time to promote basto Kind of a 1B logjam in the minors. Basto needs promotion (although he hasn't been in productive in high A ball for long)....to take Delmonico's spot. Delmonico really needs a promotion... but that would be to take Hayes' spot, who doesn't need a demotion. Try Delmonico in the OF.
  19. Nick Basto is also having a heck of a year with the Dash. I don't know if it's a fluke or if the lights finally went on, but he's raking.
  20. FWIW @keithlaw Is Nicky Delmonico a solid prospect? I don't see him on any Sox top prospect lists keithlaw ‏@keithlaw Apr 26 Repeating AA this year, suspended for amphetamines in 2014. Not a top prospect.
  21. They're all going to be difficult. The only easy marks on the schedule are Twins and Braves.

    Lawrie

He's been one of our best hitters, so hopefully that will continue. He also brought some much-needed attitude. The clowning on this team was out of hand the last few years.
  23. The 2005 Sox started off 24-7, which included 2 8-game win streaks in the first 31 games. Anyway, if Sox stretch this 2-gamer out to 8 games, they will just be 24-8, just 1/2 game off of 2005.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) In the end, the ONE season we should have been able to RELAX was 2005 the final week, but not after having the --IT scared out of us the three prior weeks by the hard-charging Indians. The 2 positions that aren't producing offensively are SS and Catcher...of course, those are two DEFENSIVE positions. I agree that the Sox will probably have to go out and get a 5th starter. It shouldn't cost that much and it probably would help. There are in-house options, although Cooper doesn't appear to like them much (of course, if he can't do anything with the 5th starter we trade for, that won't help either). And that 2005 wasn't a cakewalk had nothing to do with Williams' failure to make some trade for a "star" in mid-season. The Sox won 99 games. What more do you want? And had Williams made the trades the fans wanted, the Sox don't win the WS (Joe Randa; give up "everything" for the "elite" AJ Burnette). The trades for pitching in 2012 didn't help a lick. Probably hurt us, in fact. The June trade for the 3B was critical...but then again, we gave up exactly zero for him.
