QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2016 -> 06:21 AM) Speaking of poorly conceived trades, your trading Adam Eaton for prospects because he wasn't as good as his numbers and doesn't have the arm for RF will go down as an all time worst. Yes and that's the kind of trade I support and I have consistently supported. Young player for young player....not for a declining vet or a a rent of a career year. Of course I take the good with the bad. You're still whining about losing Addison Reed, which was same philosophy as the Eaton trade. Myers was a decling veteran who wasn't anything special in Houston.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 4, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) Would Julio Teheran cost Tim Anderson? Tehran is a mid rotation guy who would help more to get to the playoffs than in the playoffs. That may be his price but it's too much. Such trades of course rarely help and usually cause harm. But that doesn't stop the exuberance for them. Heck no one is even talking about Frazier, the super super slugger, and his Dunn-like output.
-
Bassit is a back of the rotation guy. His absence "hurts" is because we're auditioning a few guys for 5th starter likely worse than he is. (and because we went a long time with Danks and Noesi). But, not he's not great talent. This all in stuff for a "star" is generally a poor and losing approach and the net return for the Sox on those trades is atrocious (and yet the Sox keep making them). Gio was the only really good pitcher. Hudson was really good, but got hurt. The next may be Chris Deveniski (sent packing in yet another poorly conceived Williams trade). And the plus side is of the Shark trade is that we have ceiling on our side. Although the odds are slim, we could hit it big with this draft choice.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ May 3, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Just let em stay, no where to move up to. Let them build their stats and make better trade bait. It would be nice if we could start pulling some of these guys up to the Whitesox and they produce. The only one I think has the possibility is Delmonico, but he needs AAA.

No.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 3, 2016 -> 05:13 AM) time to promote basto Kind of a 1B logjam in the minors. Basto needs promotion (although he hasn't been in productive in high A ball for long)....to take Delmonico's spot. Delmonico really needs a promotion... but that would be to take Hayes' spot, who doesn't need a demotion. Try Delmonico in the OF.
-
Nick Basto is also having a heck of a year with the Dash. I don't know if it's a fluke or if the lights finally went on, but he's raking.
-
FWIW @keithlaw Is Nicky Delmonico a solid prospect? I don't see him on any Sox top prospect lists keithlaw @keithlaw Apr 26 Repeating AA this year, suspended for amphetamines in 2014. Not a top prospect.

They're all going to be difficult. The only easy marks on the schedule are Twins and Braves.
-
He's been one of our best hitters, so hopefully that will continue. He also brought some much-needed attitude. The clowning on this team was out of hand the last few years.

The 2005 Sox started off 24-7, which included 2 8-game win streaks in the first 31 games. Anyway, if Sox stretch this 2-gamer out to 8 games, they will just be 24-8, just 1/2 game off of 2005.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) In the end, the ONE season we should have been able to RELAX was 2005 the final week, but not after having the --IT scared out of us the three prior weeks by the hard-charging Indians. The 2 positions that aren't producing offensively are SS and Catcher...of course, those are two DEFENSIVE positions. I agree that the Sox will probably have to go out and get a 5th starter. It shouldn't cost that much and it probably would help. There are in-house options, although Cooper doesn't appear to like them much (of course, if he can't do anything with the 5th starter we trade for, that won't help either). And that 2005 wasn't a cakewalk had nothing to do with Williams' failure to make some trade for a "star" in mid-season. The Sox won 99 games. What more do you want? And had Williams made the trades the fans wanted, the Sox don't win the WS (Joe Randa; give up "everything" for the "elite" AJ Burnette). The trades for pitching in 2012 didn't help a lick. Probably hurt us, in fact. The June trade for the 3B was critical...but then again, we gave up exactly zero for him.
-
Guerra pitched great for the Sox in the minors, but he barely pitched when called up (and he didn't pitch well in his 4 innings of work). Cooper wasn't interested so off he went. We'll see how he does with the Brewers.

John Danks should never start for the White Sox again
GreenSox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the only chance is for one of those Navarro/Eldred type trades (although why the Brewers threw a shortstop into the deal, I have no idea). I don't think it's just a matter of the contract....I suspect there is some fear that you cut him and someone picks him up and he figures things out. Sox are hardly the only contender with a lousy 5th starter situation. And, of course, he's Cooper's guy, and Cooper is KW's guy. -
Delmonico's hitting. Not sure how much of a prospect he is, but I'd like to see him try AAA.
-
The risk to the clubhouse is nowhere near worth whatever benefit AJ would bring. And as said above, he was jettisoned quickly after Ventura took over.
-
Nice to see my man Jake Rogers in the top 100. Best defensive college catcher I've seen in ages. Catches everything and you can't run on him. Very athletic. While his offense this year has been a lot better than depicted in the write-up, he has a goofy leg kick that will hold him back offensively unless he can be coached out of it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2016 -> 08:19 AM) QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 29, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) * I am not worried at all about Anderson now that we know what the basis of that "mysterious disappearance" was. He'll be fine, the biggest concern for me has always been his defense and from what I understand that continues to improve. In the end, I don't think he's going to be in the Sox org much longer. Other teams have things the Sox are going to want very badly, and Anderson is a chip the Sox can cash in for something very, very useful. Well it better be a lot more than "useful," even if of the very, very variety. For a quality young OF with years of control, sure. But that's not the way Kenny Williams operates.

Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox 6:05PM

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 29, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) Is Robin reverting back to his "normal" ways?..inquiring minds want to know. You've got a solid bullpen...use them. I don't know that it's a reversion...the starters have been so good, they didn't need to be pulled. But yes, this is the way Cooper/Ventura manage. tough start for Rodon. He still doesn't have his control. More time in AAA last year (when the ML team was going nowhere) might have helped because he didn't have his control in AAA either. And it's not like Cooper has been doing much "fixing" in the last several years. -
Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox 6:05PM
GreenSox replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2016 Season in Review
The pitching steps back a little bit, and the dugout braintrust reveals their true selves. And as Cooper/Ventura have done for 3 seasons, a starter stays in until he pitches the Sox out of the game, as long as the pitch count doesn't get too excessive. -
Avi's starting to produce a little bit. On the other hand, Rollins needs to take a seat for a few days and certainly belongs nowhere near the 2 hole.

GreenSox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 09:59 PM) Dude is done. Our guys at AAA would have to try and be worse. Tell that to Don Cooper. He's the reason Danks is intractable. He's the reason Noesi was here for a year, and EJ is/was not. -
The Sox have several options at AAA they can try for 5th starter. I realize that Danks is cooper's guy, but enough is enough. Sox owe him nothing. The problem with trading for some starter, aside from the fact that most 4th/5th starters blow, is that they are of no use in the playoffs. Your top 3 pitch. I realize that's getting ahead of myself some, but the idea is to win in the playoffs as well. The Sox have put a lot of resources into young starting pitching so that they can grow their own for most key spots.

Do they still have the Saturday afternoon show with Cooper?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 07:21 PM) Would you say they are similar types of players? Mitchell was a college player who was still high-school raw. He was spending half his time playing football. That was the problem with that pick.
