  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Frazier hit 43 doubles and 35 homers, so it appears despite hero worshipping and acquiring him, he could help solve the problem. As long as he doesn't revert to his .634 July OPS, or .656 August OPS, or his .676 September OPS. And let's hope he improves his career.739 OPS away from Cincinnati. And that Trayce's was complete foolsgold.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) I also don't get how Justin Upton can't be considered pretty consistent. His OBP has trended downward. Not precipitously. He Ks a lot. Cespedes has been trending upward. But he is more of the slugger type; but he sure can mash it. No QO
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Dude, you are beyond delusional. The 2005 White Sox had solid power or better at almost all positions and hit 200 HRs. I'm not sure how comparing those teams or players are relevant at all. Sure they hit homers...but not with swing and miss low obp sluggers, fawned over hereon. Sox had players across the board who who could hit. They also played impeccable defense and dumped a slugger at a steep discount to shore up his and other positions.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) They were last in home runs last year. They needed 3 hits in a row to score one run. Pretty clear why people want a power upgrade. The Sox were also 2nd to last in OBP and 3rd to last in Doubles. Sox had 3 fewer HRs than the Royals...and 40 fewer doubles.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) A lot of teams don't prefer to use flawed players the way you do Sure they do. They just think they're good when they're really flawed. Heck Melky didn't have that much better year than Avi; but somehow he's a solid #2 hitter, while Avi, in his first full year, is garbage. (not to mention that the cw is that Avi won't take a walk; for this organization, his walk rate isn't terrible and it's better than Melky's was). Laroche had a .697 against right handed pitchers; .383 against lefties (.383!). Tell me, why does the field manager let him hit against lefties?
  6. Why do the Sox need a power hitting OF per se? They have a power 1B and 3B. I think Gordon would complement this team more. They need players to get on base. That would allow them to platoon Melky and Avi (and contrary to cw, Melky wasn't that much better offensively than Avi was last year; he even walks less).
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) None that is better than Lawrie, unless we get Harper lol. Sox aren't trading Lawrie. Do a 3 way. Sanchez wasn't a problem. Even Don Ventura seemed satisfied. Do some platooning, dare I suggest. I will point out that Avi had a .750 OPS against left handed pitchers. A lot of teams get a lot more mileage out of flawed players than the Sox do.
  8. I wouldn't have an objection if the Brewers price him at the sub .650 OPS that he is.
  9. The problem with these guys is none give the indication that they will be consistent for the duration or most of the duration of the contract. Gordon seems like he would be the best, but he's not the "slugger" for which Kenny Williams is on his eternal sojourn. (don't remind Kenny that to win the WS he dumped a slugger and shored-up OF defense).
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) If we get rid of Robertson, we would then be in the market for late-inning relief pitching. As I've said before, if one dude's $12m salary gets in the way of signing a $100m+ player, then JR needs to sell the franchise and get into another line of work. Agree. And, frankly, same with Laroche and his salary. and if you're going to move Robertson, move him when teams were hot for a late inning guy; big prices were paid for those pitchers (albeit the prices were paid in *shudder* prospects).
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) He's being paid pennies though, $8M over 3 years is nothing in this day and age. Even if he declines a bit he'll easily be worth the contract. At this point I'm 90% convinced you've been trolling us this whole time. This can't be a serious post. You got me too. Only a troll would question 8 million for a pitcher who gave up homers at an alarming rate. I'm just not into 81 wins and home run derby like you sages
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) You are a parody. Oomph personal attacks. You got me.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) Then again, imperfect young players ceilings are usually mediocre vets. Except for teams that actually win. But the sox were still in it all of last year and Kenny Williams could see a 10 game winning streak right around the corner. Bloody bad luck it never happened.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 16s16 seconds ago Nate Jones has agreed to 3-yr, $8M guaranteed contract with #WhiteSox, sources say. Options included beyond that. How much would he have earned in Arb? Looks like more sentimentality
  15. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Would it make sense to package LaRoche with expendable young guys like Avi, Beck, Webb/Putnam? . How exactly are they expendable? Have you seen the bullpen? Have you seen how thin this starting rotation is? Hahn just traded 2 young pitching prospects for 2 more bullpen guys with no control that he hopes "Coop can fix" although Coop hasn't fixed a thing in years. Need all the arms they can get and hope a couple can do something. And I agree with the above. if 1 year of $13 million is a big handicap, what business are they doing signing long term FAs and trading for hero-rents? And at that, he does do one thing well - plays defense (and I know, I know, who needs defense).
  16. I would say neither because it would take away all leverage and flexibility for the future. But what the heck. Kenny Williams is hell bent on an 84 win team so let's get it for him. id vote Gordon but he has a high OBP and is an excellent defender, so I'm sure The Sox will look elsewhere.
  17. Somehow the 92 win Dodgers can find a use for Micah. But Robin and his 76 wins couldn't fit him in. That might require platooning and late inning replacements on a regular basis. It's like the sox run the org. For the convenience of its limited field manager. Sure they stick Sanchez and Saladino out there. They had no other choice. But they could have been more creative in their use and used Micah as well. But why bother when you have Alexei to take all the snaps and beckham to fill in.
  18. Alexei does not improve this team. There really is an absolute disdain for imperfect young players in this organization. Love the mediocre vets however.
  19. He's an all star. We have someone to root for in home run derby. Meanwhile, the team and org. got worse. The Sox had stabilized 3B. The weaknesses were OF defense and a mediocre bullpen. So what did they do? Traded a OF who plays impeccable D and hit nearly .900 OPS. Brilliant! They traded a pitcher who could have been an actual stopper, of which there is exactly one. They cry about lack of hitting, so they traded an IF who can hit!!!! Oh, and they crowded out yet another young IF. 2B wasn't an issue. We had great D there from a YOUNG player (which, I know, is a negative on the Sox). This org's disdain for young players is beyond belief. The irony of course is that at least 2 of those guys, if not all 3, will make the 92 win Dodgers 25 man. But they weren't good enough for the 25 man of Robbie and Cooper's 76 win Sox.
  20. Mission accomplished. Williams crowded out 3promising young players so Robbie and Coope don't have to deal with them. Williams got more low OBP. Another vet slugger. And we get the same horrendous outfield D as last year. Horrible trade
  21. What's with all of this not posting stuff. Everyone has an opinion which makes the board interesting.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) Why? I would be all for it if I knew that we were raising our overall budget. But if we may need a starter next year and need budget flexibility to fill needs. And it's certainly better than trading young players for the likes of Frazier.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) just yesterday he said that Frazier strikes out the same as Chris Carter Actually I didn't. I said they both strike out a lot. The difference, of course, is that you guys want to ravage the farm system and throw the same horrid outfield defense out there. Frazier's best OBP was .336. Last year it was .309, to accompany his .669 second half OPS. And yet you guys want to trade serious assets for that. How many times do we have to load up with low OBP ballplayers? Sure Chris Carter is high K low OBP. His 25 homers are also FREE. They won't hurt the club long term. Adding Frazier would maul it. Who's the last hitter that improved with the Sox. I'll tell - Eaton and Quentin. Common denominator? YOUNG and we traded equal value for YOUNG players. That's actually worked. So what do the Sox do when an approach works? Dump it in the trashcan and go after "proven veterans" again, an approach that has consistently failed. What exactly would Frazier add? A good bat? Maybe. Could be a mediocre bat if we follow what has happened in the past with these NL sluggers. Defense? Nope. We fixed that with Lawrie. Yes, he's average at best overall but it's stable. (and yes, some want to move him to 2nd to squeeze out the promising Sanchez at 2nd for a proven mediocre player). Does OF defense improve? Nope. Package will likely include Trayce and we're back to the same clowning we had last year. Heck if we do nothing, we're much better defensively than we were last year and if we use the players correctly, we'd have a plus defensive team. That was a big weakness last year. But you can't watch defense on home run derby.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:48 AM) Melky is the perfect 2 hitter. Especially if we can acquire guys like Upton and Frazier. Our 1-6/7 in the lineup would be really really good. Melky and his .710 Ops = 7 hole hitter As for Frazier, if rents, low OBP and high K acquaint ion philosophy repeatedly fails, keep doing it until it work.
