  1. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) White Sox spent a portion of the day talking internally about lining up a series of possible moves. Things could start to heat up. https://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/674377097708765184 I thought they had been doing that for the last 2 months.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) I don't think so, but if I misunderstood it, it still means he's comparing Trayce to Inciarte due to them both having underwhelming minor league stats. Still a stretch, because Trayce had a nice few weeks and Inciarte has been a very valuable offensive piece for two major league seasons. They both do play great D, however. The point was that Inciarte's major league performance is a lot better than his minor league performance would have suggested. So far, so is Trayce's. A mere counterpoint to the idea that he's a 4th OF, and inherently inferior to a mediocre veteran or a rent of a faux hero or career year.
  3. FWIW, Inciarte is kind of like Trayce- modest minor league stats, but exploded as a major leaguer.
  4. QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) I'm probably one of the few, but I'm not opposed to the White Sox staying quiet(er) in free agency. My #1 focus continues to be rebuilding the minor league system and rebuilding it back. Having 3 draft picks in the first 50 or so picks is a good start, but they need to keep these picks and not be tempted on a free agent. They have addressed the catcher spot, and have internal options at 2B (Sanchez) and SS (Saladino). These may not be exciting options or even guys they can win with long-term, but why not find out next season? Same with the OF - Tryce Thompson is a good defensive player, the White Sox were high on A.Garcia before his 2015 season and they still have La Roche under contract for next season. I'm not saying to not make any moves, but avoid longer term deals, especially on stop-gap type players. If there's a player who is available who they believe can be part of a winning team beyond next season, I can support that, but I'd rather not lock myself into bad deals all to slightly improve. So, who on the market (or in a trade) can complement the young pitching staff that the White Sox have built? Right on From a fellow of the few.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) Dodgers trade: Yasiel Puig Julio Urias Joc Pederson Dodgers receive: Jose Fernandez Adam LaRoche John Danks Marlins trade Marcelo Ozuna Jose Fernandez Marlins receive: Julio Urias Carlos Rodon White Sox trade: Carlos Rodon Adam LaRoche John Danks White Sox Receive Yasiel Puig Marcelo Ozuna Joc Pederson Thoughts?? Dodgers aren't going to trade Urias, Puig and Pederson for Fernandez Don't really like the Sox return either - oh it's a fair return, just not my cup of tea. Rather trade Q for Puig and the 3B prospect. (which they wouldn't do either).
  6. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) Exactly, and our weak minded management could never accept such a move. Always going for it are the White Sox! Yep. They should have been all over moving a pitcher with the high demand and the pretty strong pipeline (albeit unproven) behind them. But they have to "go for it" this year. We could see that when they wouldn't trade Shark last year. They have no long term plan at all.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) This is exactly why Q should be placed on the block. The return for him could change the direction of the franchise. That would be taking 2 steps back to take 5 steps forward. The Sox prefer to take 1 step forward and then 3 steps back.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) ATL got a great package for Miller, but the Sox are better off waiting until next offseason before consider moving Quintana or Sale IMO. The free agent market is significantly worse next year and these guys will still have three & four years of control respectively. Plus we'll have a much better idea where we stand in a year (does Rodon take that next step, are guys like Anderson/Fulmer legit pieces) and dead weight off our roster (LaRoche/Danks). Good points; it's also the argument for saving our prospects. there are also aren't many orgs like Arizona willing to trade prospects like that. Boston is one. But they made their moves.
  9. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) Weird overpay from the team who traded Eaton and Skaggs for Mark Trumbo (a DH in the field and can't put up an OPS as high as Eaton). I'm somehow not surprised. Different GM They then made a nice trade to dump Trumbo. Arizona churns out a lot of talent from their minors (a lot more than the Sox) so they can overpay. But yea, this is the kind of trade the Sox should look toward (the Atlanta end), but they DON'T. It's a value trade; will help long term and may not the immediate position of need. All the Sox care about is getting a 3B and/or SS in here so they can howl at the moon until mid May.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:14 PM) If teams want Anderson ... we know he's a legit prospect at least. If he's a legit ss, we can't afford to be trading him. Sox need a young shortstop ready to take over (in a year). We're going to be hurting at ss this year with Lexi gone. We knew he was a legit prospect. Saladino can cover for Alexei defensively. And Alexei's offense wasn't much anyway. what worries me is that if the other teams are wanting Anderson, it could mean Williams is hero worshiping career years and 2 year rents.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) Yay no more Castro for Quintana suggestions. It seems to me it would accelerate them. They have a surplus. I'm thinking Castro plus $$ for Laroche.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1m1 minute ago Nashville, TN Trayce Thompson will get look in CF during Spring Training, with a chance for that job. White Sox talked to Eaton at end of 2015 season... Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 42s42 seconds ago Nashville, TN ... about moving around the outfield, and Rick Hahn said he was upbeat about the idea Good news
  13. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) Dunt; I agree with you. Adding a few pieces could easily make this team a Playoff Contender in 2016. Although I was not a fan of Bill Veeck, I agreed with when he said "The future is now, 5 year plans usually lead to new 5 year plans". Would have been nice if he had made the playoffs once. Or more than 1 winning season. Or if he hadn't traded a future hall of fame pitcher plus another for 1 year of Rich Zisk. Following the teachings of Veeck isn't exactly a pathway to baseball success.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Eaton should go to LF and Trayce to CF in they could somehow move LaRoche. That would help the team immensely. Then trade AVI for that Colorado 3B prospect. Sign UPton or someone. And the Sox move from the worst OF in baseball to an upper tier OF.
  15. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) Looks like teams have realized that Gambler Kenny is back ready to win a world series and will empty the farm again. It would be nice if he would remember that he didn't have to empty the farm to win the last one. This is what happens when your have a history of over paying and giving up the best prospects- teams expect that sort of treatment. Williams and his theories of declining veterans and career years are obsolete. Let Hahn run the show please.
  16. Millers a 3. But when you are ready to win and have a strong farm, you can make trades like this.
  17. Because there are massive holes on this team and org across the board. The chances of success are small and the chances of setting the org. back several years are high. The Six tried that patch up approach most of the last 8 seasons and it failed miserably. The one year they didn't and acquired young players, they improved 10 games.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:52 AM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 47m47 minutes ago How exorbitant is the price on Jose Fernandez? Sources say the Marlins have asked the Dodgers for Julio Urias and Corey Seager. Dodgers said no -- can't imagine Seager going anywhere for anyone -- but the sides have continued talking about plenty, including Fernandez. Nothing exorbitant about that price. Q for Arenado would be a dream
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Cubs and Tampa discussing deals of Baez for a starting pitcher. To me, seems like Tampa is overvaluing Baez big time. Baez is risky but high ceiling. Depends on starting pitcher. I'd trade EJ for him before I'd trade EJ for, say, Lawrie.
  20. It would make sense for a true contender like the Mets to make a run at him.
  21. Why aren't the Reds "going for it?" They had Cueto, Chapman and Leake. They had the great Bruce (see earlier threads fawning on this guy), Votto and the speedy Hamilton and the elite, the super duper, the best of the best Todd Frazier. They had Marlon Byrd and Brandon Phillips, both of whom outhit Melky. Why did they suck so badly with all of this elite talent? Seems like 1 or 2 pitchers would have put them over the top.
  22. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) I'm not sure why people are so down on Melky. I think he is a piece that we should keep. His offense is better then what Thompson or LaRoche will offer Based on what? His lofty .709 OPS? And Trayce and his .850 OPS and impeccable D is a 4th OF, while the declining Melky and his .709 OPS and clownish defense and play is a keeper. I realize Tracy's OPS isn't sustainable, but I'll take a chance that he can at least equal Melky's .709. I have no doubt that at least 1 of Trayce, Erik J or Micah J get traded for a decliner or for some career year that Williams is fawning over. It wouldn't surprise me if they trade all 3. I'm okay with signing Upton, IF they clear out the riff raff. And if it's an alternative to trading for another Williams rent-a-career-year, I'm all over it.
  23. I'm okay with Upton if they get rid of Melky and trade Eaton. Avi-Trayce-Upton is a much better OF. Much rather sign Upton than trade young players to rent an overrated fraud like Frazier.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) Yet you want no part of Todd Frazier. Todd Frazier is not a star. Not even close. Look at his stats.
  25. The Sox aren't in a bad position. If they would just give it a year or 2 and acquire talent when it's available. But they refuse to do that. Absolutely refuse. They insist on forcing - sign decliners, trade for rents, don't let young talent develop. The one year they acquired young talent they improved 10 games. Kenny Williams has to have his "proven veterans", put a paper thin team together than needs EVERYTHING to go right to contend, and when one of Williams' decliners predictably declines, they have to start back at ground zero.
