QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) You always bash our ideas, yet don't provide your own ideas of what the Sox should do. I've consistently said what I would do. Gotten a lot of bashing for it. Here you go: Build with youth. Not trade for these over-priced, over-rated "proven" veterans. Too many holes to try to win in 2016. But, if we must have a "star" I'd go with Upton, although I wish he didn't have a QO attached. Wish we hadn't wasted resources on Melky when Upton was up the next year. I'm fine with Lawrie - trade Micah for him. I think I said that. He's passable and passable at 3B would help a lot. Could improve. (but I know the Sox when it comes to dealing with Beane: they fall all over themselves trying to impress Sir Billy, and it will be Micah and Montas and an A ball prospect thrown in, which would be nuts). Find a different/better young 3B. Trade EJ or Montas for him. Trade one of Sale, Q , Eaton to plug 2-4 holes with good young talent. Play both Trayce and Sanchez this year. A lot. They should be starters. If we must trade prospects, try to do it with 2nd and 3rd tier prospects: Saladino, Beck, Danish. Then the Johnsons, May. Leave the A ball prospects alone...some of those guys are going to blast; don't know which one will. But keep them.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions

So who do we have unprotected that we arguably should protect. Is Robinson Leyer really available? Sox value Carroll over him????? -
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Derek Dietrich marlins. 25 years old LH .256/.346/.456/.802 Hoping to come up with the right package for him and Ozuna. They want pitching. Why would the Sox want those 2? Dietrich's not a 3B. yea, maybe he improves. Avi, Sanchez and Micah could too (and the latter 2 are already stellar defensively). Defense has long been a huge albatross on the Sox On other matters: Lawrie's no better than average. Micah would be a fair deal for him, especially as Robbie doesn't know how to use him. Cargo be just a ridiculous trade. $20 mill a year, 2 year rent, heavily stacked Coors field stats, low OBP, lots of Ks. Sox need to build, not wish-cast.

Arenado or the foreign guy. Don't want to waste resources on any of others esp Too Frazier.

What pitchers have the Sox fixed recently or semi recently?

Second baseman Jose Miguel Fernandez defects

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) Sanchez can be an elite defensive second baseman, but his bat has more potential than people here seem to think. He has shown flashes of being a decent contact hitter. Agree. Let's see how he develops this season. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) Source: Free-agent catcher Dioner Navarro in agreement with #WhiteSox on a one-year contract, pending a physical. I didn't even realize he as a FA. Nice pick up. Catcher stabilized for next season.

I'd like to see some of Hahn's "shrewd negotiation" in trades. -
I just wish the Sox would do a deal before they give away leverage.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) He was terrible, but I liked him in a weird sort of way. I hope he resurrects his career in Atlanta. I did too. Good luck to Gordon Beckham, everybody.

yes, someone like Arenado is how you get fair value on Quintana or Sale (they'd have to throw more in for Sale). Of course, I'm willing to trade Sale for fair value. Quintana looks like someone who can pitch forever, to me. You don't get fair value trading for the much beloved heron career years and declining veterans. And we need to leave our best minor league pitchers alone...trading them is not getting full value. or what about the prospect blocked by Arenado. Do due diligence on him and see if we can get him for EJ or the like. On a side note, Price is worth that contract. He's twice as good as Zimmerman.
-
Infield, C, OF, bench, bullpen, overall depth. Ton of holes to fill.
-
QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Well gang, the Price deal (to me) officially seals the deal: The White Sox CAN NOT trade Q or Sale. There is no possible way to recoup the value that each is in terms of years of control and financial commitment left for the WSox. If I were Sale and Q, I'd be firing my agents for not having the foresight to anticipate the market for pitching. Security when young is one thing, but they cost themselves truckloads of $$. Keep the pitching and keep attempting to build around it. Maybe it means the opposite: a great opportunity to, (dare I suggest something that the Sox haven't done in a decade+) sell high.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) FWIW, I don't think Boston would actually do that deal. Then again, they have made trades in the past where they dumped high salary players through trades. The Dodgers know all about that. Well they'll have to do something like it if they want to get rid of him. Nobody is going to give value or take anywhere near all of that salary.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) I've been staunchly against the idea of trading for Hanley but if Boston is willing to eat half of his salary, half of the 2019 vesting option and take LaRoche, I think my mind could be changed. In total, the Sox would be on the hook for about 45M through the '19 season. I think Hanley's bat is worth 11M per year. So your proposal is Hanley + 1/2 his salary for Laroche? Too many years, but that would be okay. One worry is that he is kind of a headcase though and headcases generally get worse under Sox leadership.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) I think people really need to come to grips that guys like Saladino, Thompson, and probably even Sanchez are all nice guys to have as backups, but aren't going to be good starting caliber players. Maybe Sanchez can be a league average 2B, but even he is probably better off at UTL. The sooner this is accepted the better Based on what? Thompson's 800+OPS and impeccable defense when he played? Sanchez' first year, where he too played excellent defense? And yet somehow we are supposed to believe that Brett Lawrie is a plus player in this league???? Bottom line is Sox fans as a group, just like the front office, have zero patience with youth. Zero. They would much rather trade them all in for players who are proven to be mediocre. Thus, in my 48 years of following this team, there have been 5 playoff appearances. Five in 48. But we had those veterans and plenty of heroes. So let's go do another Swisher trade for Lawrie.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) What if we double down on our rotation while we continue to search for offense? Keep Q, Sale, Danks, Rodon & Fulmer. Add Shelby Miller, let Fulmer spend 2016 in AAA. Add some camp invite guys for SP depth. Would Erik Johnson, Montas, Micah Johnson & Tyler Danish get it done for Miller? Maybe get an infield prospect back as well? Oh for goodness sakes. He's a #3 starter. he had a 3.7 second half ERA against NL Competition. You want to trade a 4/5 (who could get better - I know, I know, Erik isn't "proven") plus a top 100 prospect, plus one of our best hitting and pitching prospects for a NL #3? What a sorry use of resources. This is also a reason why the Sox draft so many pitchers: So that they a) don't have to do overpay deals like this and b) if they would stop so being sentimental about any player who produces, they could move one of their pitchers and get someone to overpay them.
-
Not part of the plan? He'll make far more money in Japan than he would as a AAAA player.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 27, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) We would need to add a piece or two. They usually do. They fixate on a player, get all ga ga. But how about the Sox actually get a paper premium on a trade. The bottom line is that Lawrie hasn't done squat. He was a .6 WAR last year He's still young and could improve. Avi was worse, but you can't trade much for Lawrie and certainly no real prospect.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 27, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) I'm probably in the minority, but I'd give up Anderson + Adams/Danish/etc for Longo. Then I'd sign Ian Desmond to play short. Hero worship 101. Longoria and Desmond may improve the team 6 games. Maybe. Longoria for the last 2 years has had an OPS in the .700s. And the coup de grace you have a contractual obligation of over 100 million over 7 years. Honestly, if that is a fair trade, what could we get for Q who is younger, cheaper, and BETTER. 5 top 100 prospects?
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Yea but the whole problem with Micah and many Sox is that we can't really count on him defensively. The pitchers need to know that every effort is going to be made to get better defense behind them while they incrementally build the offense. Maximize the pitching by preventing runs while also trying to build up an offense that isn't defensively challenged. The Sox are never going to get any offense in here if they don't let the players who can hit play. I realize that Cooper demanded that his pitchers be protected, but the Sox didn't get any better as a team when they jettisoned Micah. I like Sanchez and both should be getting ML at bats. Creative management finds a way to get him in there. And while they did that, they put the most abhorrent outfield defense imaginable out there. And the bullpen was nothing better than mediocre. (and, of course, Montas, who could help there, is on everyone's trade list). Then people want to start trading young players for rapidly declining veterans like Longoria and to buy high for 2 years of a fraud like Todd Frazier (does anyone check his OBP, splits or OPS from the last half of the season?). The foundation simply isn't there. You can't holes with a decliner or 2 when there are weaknesses across the roster. it doesn't work. Why repeat failed prescriptions?
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Reading that he is available. He shouldn't cost much and he swatted 16 homers last year, and prior to last year he has been a defensive wizard at 3rd. Just drunken spitballing on turkey day Because he's not very good and will cost a legitimate prospect like Micah. And Oakland will do with Micah what Don Ventura will not do: play him and watch him hit. And I'm sick of deals with Oakland. They never turn out well.

QUOTE (Special K @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) This guy looks like a x1,000 times better than saladino. yes, but is he better than Mike Olt.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Not sure the Sox have much to offer that the Dodgers need, which is pitching. Take Sale, Q and Rodon out of the mix and its difficult to see a matchup. Well, put them (Sale or Q) in the mix and do a blockbuster. the Sox are going to have to break something up to change direction. It's nice to have Sale and Q but they need a supporting cast. And we have some young pitchers coming up.
