QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Why does Robertson get a pass this season? He has been rather ordinary at best. I advocated trading him at the break and people laughed at me. Don't know that he's getting a pass. I was hoping we'd trade him when claimed in August. I think it would have been hard to dump him for more than salary.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) Another loss, another game closer to a top 10 pick. Nice pun.

Robertson joins the party. Why the hell not.

9/16 Athletics at White Sox

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) Not sure why Carroll wasn't up earlier. You always need a guy who can eat innings in September, and when you're not in a pennant chase, it doesn't really matter how good he is. Because you should bring up real prospects in September not AAAA fodder. Even Junior Guerra should be up instead of Carroll. -
Olt absolutely should play third every day....so that Saladino can play short every day.
-
I can't think of much Ventura, Cooper, Hahn and Williams have done to warrant continued employment
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) Micah with 3 walks in the game. IF JR maintains his current front office, he's going to be packaged likely with someone like Trayce and a pitching prospect for a veteran off of a career year, or a declining star.
-
And there you have it. The entire regime and season in one 1/2 inning. Your Chicago White Sox.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Said this all year, but Montas should absolutely be trade bait this offseason. Good luck ever making him a starter Well he's not ready. He did not have his command down in AA.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) So meaningless for a team that rarely spends on pitching (in part because of Cooper), has terrible defenses, and is otherwise effective. No idea how he's tied to Ventura considering he's been in the organization for 27 years now including under 3 managers as pitching coach. He's been the shadow manager, making the pitching moves. He's been KW's mole...been here long enough. Infield defense was fine during most of his tenure. Sox have invested plenty of resources (players and otherwise) into pitchers. Thornton and Quintana are his claims to fame.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Cooper should have a job forever here as long as Sale avoids longterm injury One team ERA in the top 1/2 of MLB in 7 seasons. Tied himself to Ventura Bye bye

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) The one thing we know for certain is that this roster can't be Rick Hahn's fault. JR can relieve him and KW of their duties next.

Hahn should just walk out there and relieve Ventura and Cooper of their duties right now. Thompson should play center

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) Gotta factor in we play a lot of divisional games. That can bury us. Still have a lot of games against Detroit, which is a basket case. With things like throwing Q for 120 pitches, while others play their aaA teams, will win fair amount of games the rest of the year. And that's find. It may make them resist the temptation of spending a bunch of money on an overpriced FA -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) First off, my first move would be to part ways with Robin. This team is desperate for a new identity and culture. IMO, that begins with bringing in a manager with a plan of attack. Hopefully KW leaves for another opportunity, but assuming he returns, I'll pray he does some of the following this winter: 1) Offer Samardzija that QO. From everything I'm hearing, he will likely decline in an attempt to net a bigger deal else were. This means the White Sox obtain a first rounder. Keeping ALL of their picks in 2016 should be priority #1. 2) Decline the player option on Alexei and move on. He is well beyond his prime. 3) Trade from the teams strength (pitching). Many posters here have mentioned the idea of trading Quintana. He ideally can net a pretty solid return given his age, cost and production. In a perfect world you can fill two positions with such trade and the Sox have holes at 3B, SS, 2B, C, and RF. (I think Avi can improve but he has had a down year that makes many concerned) 4) Give the prospects a chance and start the process of seeing what you have in house. 5) Avoid the temptation of signing FAs unless you it does NOT sacrifice a draft pick. 6) focus on adding depth to the farm system. I would consider dealing valuable veterans like Cabrera and Robertson if it means adding needed prospects to farm to better increase the teams chances for 2018 and beyond. With all the holes on this roster, I am more focused on adding prospect depth over MLB roster depth. This team needs to undergo a rebuild. This rebuild can be accelerated via trades and wise personelle decisions made by upper management. Unfortunately, I don't trust upper management anymore... The retooling will likely continue and the sub.500 mediocre baseball will commence on the Southside. Oy vey..... I like this plan a lot. This team is not a couple or even a few players away from contending, heroes to some they may be.

Ventura "absolutely" wants to manage White Sox next season

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) Back in the day, the two best third basemen arguably were Robin and Matt Williams. Now Matt is the worst manager in majors, Robin certainly in lowest quartile. Williams is just getting more media scrutiny. Ventura, Williams, Ausmus...all terrible re strategy. Ventura is making fewer overt flubbs, like bunting right in front of your best hitter, than he used to. Don't kno about the others. All had the same issue - lack of experience. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) If the front office is not willing to accept that they made a serious mistake in acquiring LaRoche, and recognize his salary as a sunken cost, they can forget about fixing this team, for next season. They are not going to compete with him in the middle of their lineup. That has been apparent since very early in the season, and is now irrefutable. I don't care what they do with him, they have to be willing to move on. Melky is the bigger anchor: lousy defender, hitting poorly, stuck a year beyond Laroche, cost a draft pick.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) They will adjust to Trayce but the real question is will he adjust to them. That AB on Monday in the 9th inning showed me that the kid atleast has a clue. Avi needs some serious f***ing work but I wouldn't necessarily give up on him. They should try him at 3B. Beyond belief. Serious work - compared to whom on this team? He's the team's fourth best hitter (if you include Trayce).
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) The Sox aren't trading their second best hitter when they're desperate for offense, especially not when he is cost-controlled for multiple years. I agree - they won't. He is the 2nd to best hitter, but he's not that great of a hitter. As for cost controlled - well, you'd get the value of cost-control back in trade. Have to trade something to get something. It would also be a sell=high opportunity, something that the Sox don't do. From what I've seen, if Trayce is part of this team, he should be in CF. Eaton should be in left. I went back and looked at Trayce's highlights over a few days. Swing looks pretty tight to me. Of course all I'm seeing is his hits.
-
Really the only value that the Sox have to trade is veteran starting pitching. Oh they can shuffle the Danishs and perhaps Micah but leave A ball alone - a lot of talent of which it's still to hard to judge real value. And some want to trade Avi - can't wait to get rid of him. This is his first full ML season and he's doing pretty well. Ridiculous. I listened to a Law chat and someone asked him about Trayce. He says that Trayce is a 70 defensive centerfielder. But he doesn't like the bat at all because the swing is long and somewhat loopy. He hasn't seen Trayce on the Sox, though. So my question, is his swing still long? Or has the pitching coach, perhaps, done something with him. Because if this is sustainable, or partially sustainable, the Sox have another trade chit: Eaton.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Personally, I'd like to see Fulmer spend more time in the minors next year and let Fulmer himself dictate when he's ready. However, who am I to question the Sox and the way they develop pitching? I thought the same thing this year about Rodon but the Sox saw something and he has improved vastly since the start of the season. Fulmer has a rough delivery. Rodon didn't. It looks like they're taking their time trying to smooth it out. Great move. Should be ready for 2017. No need to rush him up, esp. if Hahn is allowed to rebuild this team a bit.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) Briefly since I have to get to a radio show (I'm a co-host) Sox have little power, are bad defensively, bad at base running, baseball stupid regarding fundamentals, will not go to a manager who can in essence 'crack the whip' and maybe help players get better. They have black holes at catcher, DH, third base. Will need another starting pitcher with Shark leaving. RF can't seem to stay healthy. Middle infield is still young and learning (assuming Ramirez is gone). The free agent market is poor this off season, if they trade a pitcher they weaken that position (many are advocating they trade Q), will probably have less money to work with since I expect many season ticket holders not to renew. Mark They also have a black hole in LF. Melky had 1 good month, and blight outside of that. Pitching - meaning Quintana or "shudder" Sale, is all they have to trade. Oh sure, Williams could load up the prospects for veterans, but that won't help. By 2017, Fulmer would be ready (and no, they don't need to rush him up next year; he needs his delivery smoothed first) and a couple of others currently in A should be close. Sale/Quintana, Rodon and Fulmer and Johnson would be a really good rotation. A starter is their best, and really only, trade chit. It wouldn't surprise me if they trade Johnson. He doesn't appear to be a Cooper fave, and Cooper rules the roost. As for Alexei and Soto, yea they could re-sign those guys. But Soto hasn't had a particularly good 2nd half. Albers - gotta sign him. These guys are nothing special. At some point you have to let go. Regardless, they should play all the young players the last 3 weeks. Don't understand why they aren't, other than the fact that maybe Don Ventura believe that they're battling for their jobs, and that a few wins will make the difference. I hope the former is true and that the latter is not.
-
Melky was an awful signing. His career numbers were nothing special anyway and a decline is no surprise. What I don't understand is why Ventura coddles him and DHs Garcia, the younger player who needs the work. Ventura probably thinks Melky is the better player. Shark is a fly ball pitcher. Don't know why the Sox wanted him so much, irrespective of his deterioration.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) This is correct. KW signed Melky Cabrera on his own. Supposedly Hahn thought they could have gotten similar production for a lesser price. KW wanted to stand pat in the middle of July to hold out for a last run, Hahn wanted to trade Samardzija in early-mid July. KW decided to wait. Hahn was correct on both accounts. This info is actually reassuring and affirms what I though - KW was all over this.
