  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) I wouldn't be surprised to see a Sox/Colorado/Diamondbacks 3-way trade. Some good matchups there. I'm not much interested in Colorado, but Arizona always seems to churn out a good bit of talent. And if we must hero worship, I'd rather sign Upton or someone than trade a bunch of prospects for 2 years of Cargo. .750 OPS away from Coors field is nothing elite.
  2. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Quintana is a lot more valuable than Kimbrel he is, but market value of bullpen stoppers (not necessarily closers) steadily rising. I also wonder if San Diego didn't get more back for Kimbrel than they gave for him.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Why give up assets whereas Saladino or resigning Alexei could produce the same if not more than Aybar? I'm all for playing Saladino. It doesn't seem to sit well with anyone else. Aybar is terrible...he should be had for basically zilch, unless the Braves just want to hang on until July, pray he has a good first half. The Braves have been willing to suck up salary as they rebuild...they are a little different than most in that regard. Alexei moving on was the first step in de-clowning this team. He needs to stay away. Let him go, please.
  4. See what the Braves want for Aybar. Can't be much.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 05:54 AM) Oh sure, that's what everyone wants to do is switch the entire roster with the Reds because of their plethora of heros. A lot of people certainly seem to think adding a Reds or 2 will turn this mid 70s win team into a World Series contender.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) If people don't want to go watch Sale, Q, and Rodon pitch then that's their prerogative. I'll be out there 15+ times to see those guys though. I'd rather see a winning team. The Sox don't need to tear it down from here - haven't they been rebuilding for the last 3 years anyway? Trading Sale or Q or Eaton is not tearing it down. The Cubs fans didn't freak when they dumped Shark (even when they were light on pitching) instead of paying him what he wanted - they got better. Sometimes you have to take sidesteps. I think they are fully capable of having this ready by 2017. But not by trading our good young players for a Todd Frazier or the like. That will sentence the Sox to 78 win prison. And get solid on defense. If you want a star, sign Upton or someone. An OF of Upton-Trayce-Eaton or Upton-Trayce-Avi/Melky is decidedly better in all aspects than what we saw in 2015. Get the pen to be good instead of average. Internal options should be able to help here. Montas could be a force, even if the end game is for him to start. The value of top relievers, closer or not, has gone up in the last few years.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) Hero worshipping. And that's exactly what the idea that 1 or 2 big FAs or trades will improve this team 10-15 games is. I'm trying to figure out how the Reds, loaded with heroes, suck so badly. Anyway, if you want to sign one of your hero outfielders, find away to move Dunn out, Melky can DH, and shift Eaton to LF and put Trayce in CF. That way we'd have a hero + excellent OF defense.
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) Even if he improves his plate recognition his awful defense will still be there. As will his rocket arm. No reason to sell low.
  9. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Would you guys do a Frankie Montas and filler for CarGo, Q for Andrelton Simmons at SS, and sign one of Upton or Cespedes?? No Are you kidding?? No
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) Way too much pitching to give up for someone that won't help your offense much. Not only won't he help the O, he will hurt the O. Even our O. He'd be great if you can rake everywhere else. Listening to the MLB network, some Sox fan suggested Q for Castro. I thought "who is this dingbat?". And then both Bowden and Stern said it would be a bad deal for the Cubs. Many, everyone drinks Theo-aid.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) That seems like an absolute steal for the Yankees. Looks about equal to me. What am I missing on Hicks?
  12. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) Eaton has a pretty average to below average arm in the time I've watched the Sox. He fits best in LF. That's why I advocate trading him. His defense is not good and we got what I believe is a career year offensively out of him. And he clowns it up too much. If I'm hero worshiping, Heywars in right Thompson in center Avi in left. I just don't see Heyward as an elite bat.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 02:33 AM) I think a Sox/Dbacks trade may work out pretty nicely. They need pitching, and have a lot of young talent, and extra OFs.....let's see.... SP Quintana for OF Ender Inciarte, SS Chris Owings, RHP Aaron Blair, 3B Brandon Diamondbacks always seem to churn out a lot of young talent and are willing to trade.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Michalczewski, Montas, and Danish 2nd half OPS around .650 Really stilted home/road splits 2 years of control No way should we trade 2 of our best prospects for that
  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) That isn't quite what Hahn said. There isn't a mention of cost. Hahn says, “I think ideally we’re going to be adding pieces, though, that are younger and more controllable for an extended period of time." He says "controllable" in reference to time, not cost. Jason Heyward is younger and the he'll be controllable for an extended period of time. Same with Upton, Rasmus, etc. Not saying we'll get one of those guys, just that Hahn doesn't mention cost. If they want Rasmus now, why didn't they want him last year when he was cheaper and w/o losing a draft pick? He's a decent defender, but strikes out too much, OBP too low, head case at times. None of those FA hitters excite me like Prices or Grienke or even Zimmerman would, were the Sox looking for pitching.
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) They also have a 3B waiting in the wings. McMahon at AA IIRC. Good - trade for him then.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Pitching prospects for young cost-controlled hitting is the only thing that comes to mind. Trading Cabrera, LaRoche and Robertson wouldn't bring back much. Maybe a guy like Petricka in a Reed type trade (granted it didn't work but I'd pull the trigger on a reliever for top 100 prospect every day of the week). Or our cost controlled pitching for some of their young cost controlled hitting. WE can develop pitching. You get a premium price when you deal pitching that is already developed. Sox aren't in the position to deal prospects; that's not how teams are built. It's what the Sox have done for years, and it has failed repeatedly. It made some sense prior to 2005 as the Sox had a much stronger farm then. Just build the organization. Try to move the dead veterans out and play more young players (sadly most of the nonproductive veterans were acquired last year). Still too many holes to contend in 2016. Ozuna had a terrible year last year; might get him at a discount.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 06:45 PM) The garbage we gave up is marginally more valuable than garbage we received. The Sox did not get fleeced. Samardzija just didn't show up this season. None of the players the Sox gave up are going to amount to anything, except perhaps Semien as a league average player. Phegley can hit; Semien can hit. Both are flawed but can hit. The issue though why is a 73 team trading young players for a 1 year rent. 1 in a series of ridiculous moves last winter. On a different subject, it's startling to me how any one could possibly believe that Starlin Castro has any trade value at all. He's a .8 WAR player and you are on the hook for 40 over 4.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) Agree. If they were to deal him anyway. My preference is to deal from the pitching depth in the minors for hitting. No. Stockpile that. Deal some once the foundation is built. This org is in no position to trade young players except in exchange for someone else's young players. I'm okay with dealing Q or Sale for that matter, for the right price. He's a 4-5 War player, at a low salary with years of control. That's the price. I'd deal Eaton first, though.
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) RV has more experience than Renteria as being a manager. Renteria is not there to be his mentor. Maybe he is there as waiting in the wings like Sandy Alomar suggested with his decline of the position but certainly not to mentor the manager. That's why I think that this is a pretty savvy pick. It's not like he has a resume that dwarfs Ventura's. I think he did a good job with the Cubs and is a much better manager than Ventura, but Ventura shouldn't feel a long shadow above him with Renteria
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) 4. The Cubs and Sox won't be making any blockbuster deals any time soon. If you listen to Cubs fans they only want to trade their junk: Castro, Soler, etc. (Soler and Castro aggregated to a .9 WAR last year). But even if Theo is willing to make an honest trade, I just don't see a matchup. Who do they have that we want? Any ML ready C or 3B? I know they have some guys in low minors, but I just don't see the fit. Now, I can see fits with Boston, the number 1 player-hype machine in MLB (Cubs still #2). But not Cubs.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) I'm on board. Now we need to be aggressive this offseason again. Hopefully aggressive in building the organization and bringing in young talent. Like we were in 2013. Hopefully not aggressive in bringing in"proven veterans" which failed miserably last year. Renteria did a good job with the Cubs.
  23. Guess of course 2nd on Abreu (might have won WS had they come out first). They've had inconsistency at first and no one they're satisfied with. Astros have their foundation built, with a strong pipeline of young talent. They can afford to hero worship to plug a hole. And with most of the players from Asia, the price is reasonable.
  24. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 08:25 AM) No, the FO thought they were going to contend for a playoff spot back then. Hell, they thought they were still contending at the July trade deadline. Maybe. Or maybe they didn't want to give the impression that they weren't going for it. July inactivity = scars from the White Flag which at this point probably stick in JR's mind and nowhere else.
