There are three pieces to Sale's value: his quality as a pitcher, his cheap contract in terms of dollars, and the number of years. The problem with dealing with the Dodgers or Red Sox is that the cheap contract doesn't mean that much to them. To get full value you would have to look at teams for him that would mean a lot such as the Astros, Royals, or pirates, or even the Cardinals. I don't know that those systems are strong enough. The The Dodgers are Red Sox may be willing to take contracts as part of the value but I don't think that really Sox much and hopefully that's not what the Sox would be looking for. As for Quintana, I'm just not sure how big that haul would be

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Why does Coop get a pass on White Sox starter 1st inning problems? He shouldn't. He also shouldn't get a pass on producing only one staff in the top 1/2 of MLB in ERA in 7 seasons. He also shouldn't get a pass on his handling of the bullpen, and his status as Robin's mentor/shadow-manager, and Williams' mole. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) Carroll, both Johnsons, Brantly and Leury. Probably Beck if Putnam isn't going to come off the DL as soon as he's eligible. I'll go with all of those but Carroll. No point in bringing up AAAA players.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) They sent the manger away. They lacked one then too. He was better early in his career. Really haven't had a good one since Torborg. Don't want the fossil from the Twins either. Modern thinking, please.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) So you are admitting all your posts complaining endlessly about the talent level are just BS. The Sox apparently have plenty of talent to win, it is Robin Ventura holding them back. They lack talent and a manger.

Robertson, Laroche and Soto for JR Murphy
-
Sox need C, 3B, OF prospects. Don't need MI prospects
-
Unlike guys like Henley and Sandoval, Robertson has pitched to his contract so it's not surprising he was claimed. Despite "blown saves" he has pitched well.Wonder if we could even work out a trade. I'd rather keep him though.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) I doubt KW leaves. I just want an all new coaching staff starting with a veteran manager. I don't necessarily want a veteran manager. I want A manager with experience coaching in major-league baseball. I also like one who is attuned to modern thinking and analytics. The front office did a dreadful job last off-season so there really needs to be some churning there too.

then Ventura pulls the best hitter out of the lineup for a pinch runner.

Rodon was much more polished out of college than Fullmer. Fulmer has a goofy, vicious delivery that they really need to straighten out to get full value out of him.

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) Melky was a worse signing than LaRoche? Lmao ok. Sure it was. More money more years, gave up a draft pick. People act like he's producing offensively. He's not. He is also a lousy defender. Laroche is a good defender but the Sox aren't using what little value he has. We're done with Laroche after one more year. They could cut him in the spring. -

The problem is Laroche and Melky were very likely to Decline. Melky was the worse signing. More money more years, gave up a pick, bad on defense. Great post up there Balta Explains everything vividly and accurately.. -

The rebuild was going fine until they decided to take a U-turn last winter and sign a bunch of veteran stiffs. You can look at the rebuild of the Astros and Cubs ans most of their talent was not acquired from trades. It was acquired from signings of international players and through the astute drafting. Yes the Cubs got their ace from a trade but that was from a trade anything should do – Dumping a mediocre veteran in July for a young player. Again that's another thing Sox simply did not do over the last year. -
JR has fired many coaches and executives of the past 35 years. Just seems to have a thing for Williams though.

Micah Johnson back at AAA, expected call up in Sept

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) One month of Matt Albers should net a decent prospect? What's the downside? Decent relative to waiver wire trades. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) I agree with this. They may deal him in the offseason but I think they pick up the option for sure. That would be outrageous. More hero-worshiping. More sentimentality from an overly sentimental organization. Cubs have their goats; Sox have their slightly above average players they turn into heroes. If they want him back, decline the option then sign him. Or trade him now, even better. -

Saladino looks like the utility infielder going forward. At least He won't cost 4 million. Micah should be up now. -
Gracious, Kanny has lost 13/14

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) I'd like to see them dump Soto and give the at-bats to Rob Brantly. If they could deal Ramirez I'd consider that too but they'll probably explore that in the offseason. There's nothing to trade in the offseason re Ramirez, unless they pick up his option, which, if they do, would make him untradeable anyway. the time is now (actually, it was 9 months ago). Waiver trade Albers...he would bring a lottery prospect. Don't know what they're waiting on unless Kenny is still waiting on that 10 game winning streak or they're worried about the effect of trading heroes on attendance.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) There is also a possibility that the White Sox do not exercise Ramirez's option and the White Sox move Sanchez to SS (or promote Anderson) for next season and use that money to fill out the lineup should there be another offensive upgrade in free agency or trade. I do think Johnson should be in the lineup most days next season if his ability to hit is not in question. There is no way that the Sox should pick up Alexei's option. Sanchez and Saladino should play SS the rest of the way. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) I agree and disagree. I don't think he's a garbage throw-in by any means. I also believe he is going to get traded in the offseason as part of a package for a different position player. How about a trade for a ML 3B, just like he's a ML ready 2B. Shouldn't need much of a "package" I'll pass on a bigger package for any more "proven veterans" and fallen heroes out of Williams and Hahn. That approach has been a debacle. He needs to play over the next 5 weeks. And Alexei needs to sit. -

GreenSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Not really. Sanchez is the 2B for the near future in my opinion. Saladino can play SS until Anderson is ready. I don't really see a spot for Micah either. His bat is insufficient for 2b...probably. But if you go by the last 2 months only, he's okay there. But we do have Micah. And fine, trade him for a 3b, but jettisoning him to the minors in May doesn't max his value. He needs to play regularly over the next 5 weeks. -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) I'm sick of watching the White Sox playing circus clown defense. Micah Johnson's not an elite hitter whose bat would compensate for his defensive incompetence. He's also had a problem staying healthy. Then you better not look at the outfield, if you don't want to see clown defense. It's hard for me to take the Sox seriously if they say that Johnson's defense isn't up to their standards, when they sign Melky Cabrera to a $50 million deal and forego a draft choice.. Regardless, no reason not to play Johnson the last 5 weeks of the season. Alexei and Beckham shouldn't leave the bench. Sox gave up O to put Saladino and Sanchez out there. It didn't help the team. It helped some of Cooper's pitchers, but not the team.
