The White Sox complete Rebuild Discussion Thread
GreenSox replied to Bananarchy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) They won't move him now, and they shouldn't, but the White Sox will move Chris Sale before the three years are up. I would expect him gone a year and a half into the last three years. then they ought to do it now. As for the Shark trade, Bassitt himself is out-pitching Shark. (but the sox/Cooper have to have the proven veterans). Semien is playing out of position; Phegley still has an OPS over .800. I certainly hope Hahn has a bit more in him than that effort. -
The White Sox complete Rebuild Discussion Thread

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) With this pitching staff, this team doesn't need a full rebuild. Those that think they do are just b****ing to b****. It is the same group of people everytime. Simply put, the Sox dug themselves a hole the first 2 months of the season that they were unable to dig out of - poor pitching, god awful defense and a historically bad offense will do that. The pitching has rebounded and is now one of the best staffs in MLB this season. The defense has been much, much, much better this summer. The offensive has shown signs, but definitely needs work. IMO, a 3B and C would be my top priorities this offseason, but I don't know how you'll find longterm solutions. The FA class is void in those positions (I would resign Soto, though), so it will require Rick to make a couple trades. I don't think LaRoche is going anywhere, but I do expect him to rebound some next year. He's battled a hand issue all season, which obviously has negatively impacted his bat speed. The biggest issue I see is there are no "quick fixes" to this offense. I think it just needs another chance, which isn't what most here want to see, but I just can't see any other way around it. But a full rebuild is out of the question - and rightfully so. The starting pitching - shark, sale and Quintana- has been good most of the season until the last 2 times through. Meanwhile Rodon still lacks command, control and a third pitch, while using a year of service time. EJ may be ready to join in, but that's TBD. Sox need an athletic outfielder. That doesn't mean get rid of AVi. nothing wrong with some quality depth for a change. And of course a 3b and c. It won't happen in one offseason. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 06:10 AM) If a top draft pick had those stats, there would be wet dreams all over the place. Cooper?? In nobody's Top Anything. But if there is a trade looming, the other team will want Cooper thrown into the deal. Trade? What kind of trade? Surely not mine where the Sox are jettisoning prospects.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) I dont understand what this means? The manager that has done the most with least talent in this division over the last two decades all of a sudden doesn't know how to manage? The guy that played the way the game is played now throughout the steroid era because he didn't have the bats can't fit into todays game? I am not particularly fond of the idea of Gardenhire but really don't get the "modern" comments related to him. The point is likely moot, we all know the next manager is going to be PK, hell he was almost the current manager. What least talent? Times change. People are doing things smarter and more efficiently now. Has he kept up with the times? Does he use modern analytics and analysis? And it's not just the manager. Whitesox are an incredibly un-athletic team with holes galore. But they continually sign un athletic players so I'm not sure they have any interest in fixing it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) Let's hear some names. I'll start with some obvious ones that'll get tossed around: 1. Ozzie Guillen- His .524 winning percentage with the Sox is a lot better than Ventura's. Left on bad terms though. 2. Dave Martinez- The next great manager according to everyone but the 30 GMs running teams. Worrisome that he hasn't been hired yet, particularly by the Rays. 3. Joe McEwing- Perennial managerial and been with the Sox awhile now. Good 3rd base coach outside whatever the f*** 2 nights ago was. 4. Sandy Alomar Jr- The coveted catcher to manager move. Being groomed as a manager by the Indians. Obvious Sox ties. 5. Joey Cora- Key part of the Guillen "glory days" but without the shenanigans. Vanderbilt educated. 1, 3 and 5 are ridiculous. No gardenhire either. Modern thinking and ideas please.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) I have a feeling Ozzie Guillen will be the manager of next year's team. I also think it's likely that Buehrle signs a one year deal here, or in St. Louis. That would be a cynical, give the fans the finger move from Reinsdorf. Maybe they can bring Ozzie favs Wise, Cintron, Owens, and Kotsay
-
Valencia is as inconsistent a hitter as can be
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) Joe McEwing took the blame for that siutation. That's all he can do. Good for him. Ownership- something Ventura/Cooper have yet to do. Good for McEwing

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) Jennings is left handed. That's it. Carroll is the only one of them who can be a true long reliever Sox only use long relievers when the games already over. Jennings can throw multiple innings.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) I don't understand. He gives them so much more than Albers, Webb or Jennings. No he doesn't
-
That guy he struck out was pissed.

Agree - why not.

I agree

White Sox make no trades at the deadline.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) Except those are the people they are trying to keep engaged. A plan does them no good if their fans think they quit. it does a lot of good if it works. And you aren't going to win without a plan, except with an occasional fluke. And if you don't win you lose your fans anyway. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Why would a non playoff team block him? And a team in contention might be willing to trade something for him. They wouldn't. But a playoff contender would. I have to bone up on exactly how the waiver deals work, but I think the Sox would need the contender with the worst record to actually want him. Otherwise, that team would just claim to block, knowing we wouldn't just let him go.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) 100% wrong. The fact that you referenced the White Flag trade is exactly why they didn't trade Jeff Samardjiza. Sox fans are STILL bringing that up after almost 20 years. yea, but the front office isn't fans. They are professionals. They shouldn't be bothered with that if they have a plan. You know how they could have overcome white flag with the fans? Show that deadline selling works. Such as trading for Varitek and Derrick Lowe instead of Foulke, Howry and a bunch of duds. Or show a history of deadline selling to build a winner. -

probably the correct decision. Buying would have been flailing at the wind. Didn't have much to sell except for Samardzija and perhaps some bullpen pitchers. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Their starting pitching is still meh It's a lot better than it was. And they had a lead on us even with that meh pitching. And they added Tulo.
-
The overreaction would be to buy with this team, ignoring 3.5 months for the sake of a week. Does Sale have to be left out there to get completely bombed? The bullpen isn't exactly overworked (to say the least).
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) I would offer Beck to the Padres and Tigers. First to say yes has a deal. Yep Pirates gave their #13 prospect for Soria. There's your market.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) Can Fulmer be traded? If we're trying to avoid things from the big league squad, Micah + Fulmer + Anderson + Montas could be close. If not then it's a price the Sox wouldn't do (Rodon/Quintana). 2014 OPS: .724 2015 OPS: .752 Adam eaton OPS 2015: .751 Tyler saladino OPS 2015: .746 Longoria is 30. He's not the same player. H How is this anything but hero-worship.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) That package would be for both Ross and Upton. Could still be too much but I'm just a fan with an opinion. Reddick is my #1 target for a hitter but I like the idea of getting Tyson Ross as well. Problem ks, getting those two would clean the farm pretty good. Reddick is purely a platoon hitter. Hits lefties worse than Laroche. For the price of a platoon, fine. Tyson Ross would be a good pitcher here.....but that seems more of a December trade, unless you are going to move Shark as part of the deal.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) I'm curious about what a package would look like. Avi, Erik Johnson, Micah Johnson + ? For 2 months of a .763 OPS that's a fair exchange? He's not a superstar....not even close. He's a good hitter...that's all. Maybe 1 of those guys, if that. Adam Eaton has a .751 OPS....he's under control until 2021. What could we get for him? 10 x that price?
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) Put this in the Soria thread, but I have a feeling that we are in a 3-team trade with the Pirates and Tigers involving Soria, Sellers, and Cespedes. So who would come from the Pirates to the Sox or vice-versa to warrant 3 teams?
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:00 PM) Just got an ESPN alert on my phone: "White Sox confused about whether to be buyer or seller at trade deadline - league source" That must be a really s***ty league source. I can understand that - it's not an easy call. Or it could be Hahn = Sell; Williams = Buy. Solution = stand pat.
