  1. He's a better player than either Beckham or Bonifacio.
  2. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) I would trade Shark and Putnam to the Yankees for J.R Murphy , Jagielo, and PTBL. Sox Front office have been a fan of Murphy in the past and is major league ready which is what Hahn is looking for. Also PTBL can be determined based on how far the Yankees go in the playoffs. Have some upside to this deal. Not my cup of tea but clearly better than a comp pick Re Trey M, 2017 at the earliest.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) from the yanks i would take sanchez-catcher. he is my #1 catcher i have been looking at for the last month dodgers has 2 very interesting catchers. my #3 and my #5 catchers i have been eye-balling. The trouble with Sanchez is that, despite his age, he has been a top Yankee prospect for a couple of years, yet has been passed up by 2 other yankee catching prospects. He looks like one of those stale minor leaguers that may head south soon (such as the "top prospects" we picked out in the Quentin, Santos and Jackson #2 trades). Certainly could be wrong. Just not my top choice. And honestly, I would rather WilliamsHahn not try to zone in on that one prospect - their evaluation skills just aren't that good.
  4. I don't know if the return is good or not. But I do know that the Astros are replete with 2nd tier prospects. So their #20 could be another team's #6. They are a drafting machine.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Sure, but thats the bet an org has to make. If you get a top draft pick they have to pan out. If they flame out, well thats a few more years of losing and drafting. You need to be a little deeper such that a flameout or 2 doesn't kill you. Especially in baseball where flameouts are the norm. Gotta be able to pull talent in the draft beyond the first round (and then properly develop it). Just get the best value. If they get an excess of pitching, trade it for some offense.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) We have that issue right now as it is. Alvarez's numbers are quite similar to LaRoches, he's got 1 year of arb eligibility remaining so he's at least moderately cheaper, he's worse on defense but we have the DH slot and they don't, LaRoche has more of a recent NL history and might even break out of his current slump if he were sent there. Basically it would be a trade of the White Sox "Saving some money" for "Taking on a headcase". Seems like a decent enough gamble. We paid $12.5 mil per year for Alvarez's production out of the DH spot this year already. Just DFAd Gillaspie- same player, different team, a little worse of a year.
  7. No Kemp. Short, little power. Sox have good prospects in the middle infield.
  8. I'm good with moving any bullpen pitcher teams will pay fair value for.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) Amazing that all the coaches have kept their jobs this year. Who are they going to fire? Ventura had marginal qualifications; he was brought in to be a Cooper/Williams sycophant - to do what Cooper and Williams tell him to do. He's probably doing that job well. Steverson was Hahn's lone hire, the lone non-insider, so Hahn doesn't want to give up on him. Is there any chance that JR gets fed up with this s***?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) If somehow Micah and Anderson were both positive offensive contributors by 2017, that could offset 3b and maybe even allow Sanchez/Saladino to hold it down effectively, esp. if Saladino can find a way to grow as a big league hitter given the start he's on...but the only way we're going to have confidence in any of that is to slow down and play the guys we have for a season to see what they can turn into. That said...would continue looking for candidates at those slots in trades as well. And it still leaves us a glaring lack of power, as well as major potential gaps in the corner OF. Woulda been really nice to have Semien in this mix as well. Hell, with Abreu's season, woulda been nice to have Ravelo as a 2016 candidate arrival as well (even though he's also been hurt this year). yes, that's true. It would be nice to have Phegley's bat as well. Maybe they can get someone interesting for Samardzija But I don't see a year of patience ahead. Williams might double down on his winter 2014 nonsense.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) If it did, the "Micah Johnson had 2 weeks in AAA, he's fine for the big leagues" they pulled this year doesn't show it. To be fair, AAA isn't a mandatory step. Lots of org minor leaguers on AAA staffs. That said, he only spent a year above A ball, which is pretty ambitious.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) Use 2016 to develop what we can out of Garcia, Eaton, and the middle infielders we have. 2016 clears out LaRoche and Danks's money as well, leaving us with only Cabrera as a likely bad contract. Right now it looks like Jose Abreu is going to either be a long-term DH or a guy who is regularly banged up and not able to contribute like he did in 2014, but 2016 will provide good evidence if that's not the case (maybe he gets a better training routine next offseason and comes back healthier?). This, of course, is what we should have done in 2015, but I agree with you. Still, there is no 3B or catcher on the horizon and the Sox need to do looking for deals along those lines as well.
  13. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) I love Sale but a package of Puig, Urias, Seager, and Olivera would be tempting and I'd probably take it. I'd do that. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:17 PM) I would trade Shark, Montas and Avisail for Puig. I'd do that too.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) I don't know if they would or not. It would set them up pretty well. It all depends on how they really feel about Puig. What if Detroit picked up the difference in money this season? I can't understand why the Dodgers would consider trading the guy, maybe he is too big a distraction. Maybe they want prospects. That's a ridiculous overpay for rents. Puig is controlled for 4 more years at reasonable numbers. I don't see how it sets them up well anyway. Puig much is better than Cespedes. Dodgers already have 2 top of the rotation starters.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Any chance Pittsburgh would trade their competitive balance pick in return for Ramirez? I'd take that deal for the White Sox in a heartbeat. Those picks are released today. That would be nice
  16. 1. Anderson 2. Montas 3. Adams 4. Fulmer 5. Johnson 6. Hawkins 7. Michalczewski 8. May 9. Adolfo 10. Danish
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) I meant Tigers. Price and Cespedes for Puig. Would the Dodgers do it? I think if I am Dombrowski, I would if he is waving the white flag. No way do the Dodgers do that.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) If you're a Sox fan, you might like him, but the DBacks are much happier with AJ Pollock. But in the end, that's because Pollock is a much better player than Eaton.
  19. Well, big trade in. Sox sell Shawn Haviland to Rockies.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 11:18 AM) that will never be. considering what there are paying adam laroche..... True. But it's a sunk cost, and is irrelevant under logical financial thinking, but with the White Sox, it never is. See Beckham and Bonifacio.
  21. Soto should play DH more. Actually, I hope he's traded, but until then, DH
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) Personally, I doubt they trade Barnes but he'd be a nice get if you could finagle him in a Shark trade. Not sure the Sox are trying to trade for an OF but LA has Crawford/Ethier/Pederson/Puig/Guerrero/Heisey/Enrique Hernandez/Van Slyke with Scott Schebler, last offseason's stat-line prospect evaluator's favorite, doing okay in AAA. You would think Pederson and Crawford are the only locks to stay in that glut. Sox wouldn't (shouldn't) want Eithier, Guerrero, Heisey. That leaves Hernandez (not an everyday player) Van Slyke or Schebler. Schebler is someone they should have tried to trade for last winter, instead of signing the vets. I'd still take him (presuming the scouts think he can hit major league pitching; those western PCL numbers tend to inflate).
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) Simple question, would you trust two of Saladino/Sanchez/Johnson to plug up 2B/SS for the forsee able future? No, but I would be willing to do that for next year. Still would need a 3B.
  24. Cargo costs $18.5 million per year. Woefully overpaid. How about getting competence at 2b, SS, 3b, C, LF and DH and THEN bring in some heroes.
  25. Heyward had a .735 OPS last year. Gt him and you'll still have Melky at LF, Laroche at DH and no one at 3B. We could fill 3 positions with solid players for that kind of money (assuming the Sox would evaluate talent reasonably accurately, which is admittedly a dubious assumption). Which is why I lean to trading sale if we could get full price.
