QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) this is the problem in general. if one just looks at the stats and use that as the end of all discussion as a final piece of a discussion, then that is a mistake. You're right, but for most of us, stats are all we've got to go on.

Houston has a bunch of sorry batting averages at the infield corner positions, but they've gotten a ton of homers out of those batting averages. they need a pitcher.

Why Micah Johnson should not be moved to the outfield

QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) He will have to play second. We are said to have bad defense anyway. I would think if he's close to average anything beats a mlb player batting .150. I'm not sure he doesn't beat it if he isn't average. Pitchers/Cooper don't like it, but do they like 2 runs scored a game? They need to find a spot for him -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) If the Sox were in contention, would you be excited for them to pick up $4 million in salary for a guy with a .555 OPS and give up a worthwhile prospect as well? No but I wasn't excited to trade our top 2 pitching prospects for a 5.16 ERA and 1.49 WHIP and pick up high salary either when marginally in the race....yet Ken Williams did just that. So we'll see.

Can he play 3rd? What are the chances he actually gets his D to acceptable 2B levels? The guy's raking in AAA -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Not saying this is good or bad but Hahn appears to be more sabermetrics orientated then Kenny. And he seems to be much more patient and willing to trust the "process" or "plan" then Kenny. Just my opinion. Mark Yes, he was reputed to be, but I certainly haven't seen much of that. I guess it was unreasonable to expect a radical change, but I did expect to see some changes. He deals with same teams Williams did. Hitting coach from Oakland. Invest in utility infielders and past their prime veterans. Extend the insider manager (who doesn't know a thing about sabremetrics) off of a 99 loss season, instead of bringing in his own manager. There has been virtually no change. Maybe we'll see some this trading season....some selling high, for example, but I doubt it.

Alexei would bring something. His D has stabilized, he's hitting better and teams would take a flyer figuring he's better than this and when the team is so bad, players underperform. Nothing great, but something. I realize that Williams/Hahn love 30+ year old veterans and give them far more deference than young players, but it's time to move these stiffs out of here.
-
I don't know who's responsible for what. But I haven't seen the philosophical change in team building in this org. that I hoped would happen. I guess it's that I hoped that Hahn would have a different philosophy than that which has failed miserably for the last 6 years. And because the philosophy is the same, I assume Williams is still running the show, when that may or may not be true.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Hell, if he hits good over the next two months, you might as well give him the SS position for next year while buying out Alexei's option. Hopefully they move Alexei and that option becomes someone else's problem.
-
I don't know who's really running this org. Is Hahn deciding who to acquire or is Williams, with Hahn executing the acquisitions?
-
Great game, but I was checking out the lineup and it doesn't look like there are any real prospects on this team he's facing. Where do the Reds put their prospects?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) What's your definition of an elite pitcher? A #1 starter I'd lean more to trading Sale because, upon consideration, I think there's a chance we could get a return that somewhat approximates his value. Q looks like one of those guys who can pitch until he's 35.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Davidson falling off a cliff again. No need to see him on the South Side, now or ever, probably - he'd hit .150, maybe. Give Saladino 3B for awhile. Dude appeared to have some talent at one point. Amazing how little development of hitters ever takes place in this org. Or maybe not so amazing. Davidson may have been a case of poor scouting. how many scouts do the Sox have in the PCL?
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) I think he's better defensively at SS. IMO he'll end up being what we wanted Leury Garcia to be. Well good. Trade Alexei (someone will take a shot with him) and move him in.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Well ok I stand corrected pitch forks will be at the gate IMO. That shouldn't create near the pitchforks that this team, its play, and its leadership does.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) Hosmer, Infante, and Escobar killed us defensively. Maybe it will be better this week. Cardinals have some distinct defensive holes.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) I counted 14-15 great KC defensive plays today How many would you say were in the OF?
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) Sale? Well, I expect him to be bright But, yes,and the bullpen really at least in the last month. That's about all I've got.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Saladino the only bright spot in this game. of the Season

Righteous work by Albers

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) I disagree. Seems like Sale and Shark usually go 110-120 give or take, Quintana a shade less, Rodon they baby, and Danks well, let's just hope he can go 6. I don't see the problem letting the big 2 go over 100. Nothing wrong that glaringly jumps out at me. But that's me. I guess you're 100 pitch limit guy, which is fine, but I think we have horses that can easily handle a bit over 100. I see a problem sending the big 2 110-120 game after game after game. There's no reason to do it every time. I'm not a pitch limit guy. But in this hot afternoon games, you can give them a break. And the back of the pen isn't that bad and they could use more work. As for Rodon ->100 pitches 7 of the last 10 starts, at least 90 in 9/10 and the one time it was only 69 he gave up 7 ER. I still don't know why they are wasting a year of service time on him, when he doesn't have his command. And I'm also biased because I never saw this team as a playoff team and want to preserve assets until it is.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Does anybody hit more soft grounders to SS in the league than Avi? Several guys on this team are pretty good at it.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) RV has to go at seasons end has too. Cooper should get high scrutiny, too. And obviously the hitting coach.
-
I've said it all year - Ventura and Cooper have been way overworking these starters. 2nd in the league in starter innings. And the price will be paid in the 2nd half.
-
Sale's at 100 pitches. Give the guy a break and pull him.
