  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) Again, what are our options? My comment was in response to the idea that teams would want to trade for Laroche and take his salary. But if teams would, yes I would trade him if a team would give us a good prospect. Options? I don't know.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Maybe so, but $13M remains a fairly reasonable rate to pay a guy to hit .250ish with 20+ bombs and 80 or RBI. The bigger issue for the Cards is that Matt Adams will be back next year and then there is no where to play LaRoche. But Laroche is hitting .229 and on pace for about 20 homers with an OPS of .721. You can get that for a lot cheaper than $13 million.
  3. Where oh where has Noesi been? Hasn't he been in Charlotte for a few weeks?
  4. Speaking of old rankings, take a look at Baseball America's ranking of the top 1 Angels prospects from 2010: 1. Hank Conger 2. Peter Bourjos 3. Mike Trout
  5. If they are serious, I wish they had played it smarter and taken full advantage of the 2 year penalty they'd get.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) A fun hypothetical i've been thinking about... trading for Donaldson instead of samardjiza. Assume all pieces from major league club gone (obviously may have taken some prospects, but this only concerns this year), remove smarj from rotation, assume noesi: What do you think our record would be? Better/Same/Worse? Do same hypothetical and you can assume healthy McCarthy (for kicks). Better this year and much better for the future. Not even close. The one obvious thing is that Donaldson isn't a FA until 2019. That said, Toronto gave up more for Donaldson than we did for Shark.
  7. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) The Sox had weather, the Baltimore riots... one thing is the Sox have played a solid week less worth of games than the rest of the league. Just weather - Sox already made up the riot games.
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) Hitting is at a premium these days though, average hitters might cost more than you think. Regardless, don't trade for them at this point. Using real prospects for average is a poor use of assets. 2 average players doesn't make the Sox better than the Royals. The Sox should have better pitching next year, even without Shark.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) Given what's in our system, are you prepared to give up 2 of Montas, Anderson, and Adams to replace those 2 positions? Average bats wouldn't cost that much, unless you're lousy at negotiating trades. But I wouldn't do it anyway. If the Sox were in the East- maybe. But the only chance, and it's flailing, is at a WC. As for pitching in playoffs - sometimes it wins, and sometimes it doesn't.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) More like 5 to 10 years ago now. Ever since they started tanking all they have done is build their farm. The edge that tanking provides, farm wise, is give you the one top draft choice (and they've hit on most of those). After the first pick, you are essentially drafting after the best team in baseball. They've been great with a lot of picks and work the slots, $$ and scout and develop really well.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) I'd be shocked if the Cardinals take LaRoche. He's not hitting nearly well enough for them to be willing to pay him $12m next year when Matt Adams is back. No one will take him unless the Sox contribute $$.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) why is danks still in the game Because Vetura won't pull a starter until a pitch count is reached or the game is out of reach.
  13. Well, we knew this was coming; will Robbie get a pitcher warmed up before the game blows open?
  14. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Boston could also be a seller which will add more pitchers( Buchholz) into the mix. Could be, but they are 5 games out of the division and playing well.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Who is better against RHP, Conor or Beckham? This year, they are both terrible. Last year, Conor by a mile.
  16. So what is your plan to improve C, 2b, SS, 3B, or LF if we can't trade him? I look at the following teams in the market for what look like 3 prime rents: Shark, Cueto, Kazmir Pitt Chi LaD Arizona (maybe) Boston NY Toronto Detroit KC Houston 10 buyers for 3 pitchers.
  17. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Indeed. The whole point of trading Quintana would be to obtain a package centered around a team's top position player prospect(s). This team needs depth at just about every position on that field. I'd take multiple quality prospects for him. Doesn't have to be the team's best, which I doubt we'd get anyway.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) Umm...he's already been up to Chicago this year and faced MLB hitters. yea, he was up for 3 weeks and got 3 appearances and 4 innings. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) Junior Guerra absolutely mowing them down in AAA. Has to be in our starting rotation before the end of the year, let's see what he's got. Amen!
  19. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) The problem is I think if Hahn had his way, he'd go young and rebuild like so many other teams have done the past few years (Astros, Cubs, Twins) but the Sox have always had a mindset under KW (and perhaps by orders of JR) to never go that route. The Sox will always try to put the most competitive team on the field which is good however when you get to the point where they are now and you're dishing out contracts to 35 and 36 year old players and the result is always the same, it's time to try something new. I don't know what Hahn would do, but I don't think he would have done this. It really looked to me like a KW offseason in December 2014.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) LaRoche is getting the veteran treatment where he won't be benched, regardless of what the splits say. He swaps Gillaspie and Beckham for L/R. Please don't ask Robin to do any more platoon type of things.
  21. Ventura's put a lot of miles on these starters.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) No reason for Soto not to be playing one of these games to give you a decent DH Decent may be a stretch for Soto.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) Of course. Who the heck would want Putnam or Duke though? Why not add Beckham, Boni and Soto to the package? These are all nobodies in the baseball world. Putman and Duke are capable relievers.
  24. Good to see some of these international players showing up in A Ball.
